My son (age 24) has similar symptoms. ENT doctor did a scan and all was well. Vitamin D was very low, so after taking enough to bring it up to normal all the tiredness symptoms went away, but pain on left side of head and pressure behind left eye continued. We suspected wisdom teeth and had all four taken out. Things imrpoved a lot, pain is still there, but slowly getting better each week. We suspect whatever pressure on the facial nerves is still slowly abating. Appointment with neurologist tomorrow, fingers crossed. So Robyn you may want to think about wisdom teeth issue, those can cause a lot of nerve and headache problems.

Ok, never written in a forum before, so totally new to this!  Totally gob smacked just how many people are suffering similar symptoms as myself and there was I thinking I was the only one!  I havent been diagnosed with Hemaplegic Migranes by anyone but researched this when I recently suffered what I thought were two strokes, four fainting attacks, constant numbness down my right side of my body, constant feeling of a blockage in my neck, an awful vein which prutrudes under my tongue, dizziness, a wierd sensation of falling backwards when I am driving and a total lack of concentration.  My doctor has prescribed beta blockers because I have had high blood pressure and I think anxiety (proponal) and I am now taking topiramate (50mg) which is having no affect.  I have an urgent neurologist appointment in December ha ha but seeing my Doctor tomorrow to discuss the possibility of having Hemeplegic Migraines.  On our last meeting she told me there was nothing else she could do for me.  Last Thursday I just about passed out on the Vedgetables in the Co-op and everyday I have different episodes of dizzy spells or wierd feelings, the co-op situation was very embarrasing, surely there is something else she could do, I am feeling very low!  anyone got any advice? I know its short notice.

This is my life... every day. I have nexplanon. Getting it removed as soon as possible in attempts to help relieve any symptoms possible. Currently seeing a neurologist for for chronic migraines, and receiving Botox shots for treament. I see a chiropractor as well. Pretty much anything and everything but nothing helps. If you are still around, I am curious if you have found the cause, or any relief or possibly both? I am currently taking Topamax 50 mg a day a maxalt at the onset of migraine. Best Wishes.

I forgot to mention that I am 28 year old female. 110 pounds.

Hi, It could be that Topamax is making your chronic migraines worse, everybody who I have talked to that have tried it, including myself, says that its a terrible drug!  Maxalt is a good choice if you get a migraine though.

I agree that Botox is good though, its helped in the reduction of my Hemiplegic migraines greatly, so too has Flunarizine.

Good luck with your ongoing treatment and hope you get things under control soon,

      Best wishes

Robyn, Know you posted this a yr ago but am hoping you can help me from experience at this point. My daughter, 26, has had alot of your same symptoms for the last week. Two ER visits, two neurologists, multiple different meds and a hospital stay later and she is miserable! Lots of bloodwork done, CT scan & MRI negative, Meningitis ruled out and still no relief. What caught my eye in your post was the eye pressure and face numbness with headache which is how this all started for my daughter. Diagnosed her with migraine first, but now think it's muscle spasms. She is so frustrated that symptoms and pain are not getting better only worse! Hoping you can update me on what they finally came up with for you. Please respond asap! Thanks, Lauren

      Hi Lauren,

does your daughter feel really weak down one side of her body?  As well as the symptoms you describe if she has the weakness too and maybe photophobia then it could be Hemiplegic Migraine.  Both Robyn and I have both taken a drug called Flunarizine, which could help your daughter too.  I also have found the Botox is very helpful.

Let us know more symptoms please

The first 3 symptoms are the ones I described above. Then ar work, as she was reading something, the words were fine but she couldn't comprehend what they meant.Since then the numbness on lt side of her face has traveled down her neck into her body and back. She has not complained of her legs being involved. By today she is very dizzy & vomiting. Also, said reading today makes her feel motion sick which has also caused her head to hurt bad again. Yesterday she woke up with severe pain in her shoulders and back but that is somewhat better today. She is very frustrated that no one has addressed her original symptom of "not understanding words." She is eating and drinking! I did write the name of the medicine you are on and will have her run it by Dr on her next appt. Thanks for your help!

Sumatriptan for the pain is the gold standard and it comes in various forms,  The epipen type are the best and most efficent, but you can also get it in tablet form as well as a nasal spray too.  I wish your daughter all the best Lauren and trust me, we are all sufferers of these horrible migraines, so support and sympathy on this forum is in abundance.  If it was a simple case if of one treatment fits all it would be a very simple case, but its not, we are all different and symptoms vary greatly.

Please let us know how you get on, as what works for her might work for somebody else,  I have to say for me, that Botox, a recognised treatment for migraines, has transformed my life!

My best wishes to you and your daughter Lauren, and keep in touch please.

      Take care

I've had very simular symptoms to you and I have just been diagnosed with Hemiplegic Migraine?. I'm also off to se a neurologist on the 30th March.

    Hi Robyn,

I have all your symptoms plus some. I also have seizure like activity which caused me to first be diagnosed with epilepsy and possible ms. I went to the ms specialist the other day and ms was ruled out, but was told I'm having a whole body migraine. Has anyone ever heard of this? I probably should have asked more questions, but I was trying to make sense of how a migraine could be causing all my problems especially since my headaches are few and far between. I was referred to a neuro who specializes in migraines, but who knows when I will be able to get in to see him.

    Facial numbness

    Itchiness all over

    Tingling all over

    Numbness

    Facial numbness

Sharp stabbing pains in back of head, ear, and jaw

    Convulsions

    Vision loss when standing

    Vertigo

    Dizziness

    Confusion

    Slurred speech

    Wrong use of words

Squeezing pain in chest and ribs

    Tremors

    Ringing in ears(since childhood)

    Random jerks of limbs

    Eye twitches lasting several weeks

    Joint pain

Feeling like I've been hit by a bus most days

    Body stiffness

    Headaches

    Internal body vibrations lasting weeks

Everything comes and goes and being sick seems to make it worse.

Wow! This is such a relief to see others dealing with the same thing. I was starting to feel like I was losing my mind. I fell on some ice in January and had a concussion, never had a migraine or headache in my life really (not a major one anyways). I got a blood clot in my leg after this nasty concussion and thought the pain in my left arm was from that. I called my dr and she even sent me to the hospital to have a sonogram to see if I had a blood clot in my arm and rule out a heart attack. So then I keep having symptoms that are getting worse and worse.

Pain in the left side of my jaw, my head, my face. I feel tired, and nauseous. Just overall awful. Then episodes where I can't talk well, now recently my face will droop. I thought I was having a stroke. They diagnosed me with TIA s. But the CT scans and MRIs come back fine.

Now they tell me that they think it's either siezures or a migraine where one side of your body or face can droop or. It mimics stroke symptoms. I looked it up and it is the hemeplegic migraine you mention in this post.

I got out of the hospital 2 weeks ago. They gave me topomax 25 mg twice a day. It did zero to help. I called and asked for an increase. Yesterday they doubled my dose. I took my first dose and one hour later had the worst one yet where my face did a full droop and I felt like my whole body was electric and shaking. I feel like a sick zombie today. I can't stop crying. I still go to work and try to be a good mom and wife but this is a terrible way to live.

I am usually the most positive and happy person you will ever meet and I am scared and feel always sick right now. I thank god that I found this post and maybe found some people that understand what I am going through and can help me through this. Thank you for letting me share my story and for sharing yours.
