Well, I am having my ablation for SVT on May 31/16. Any words of wisdom for me? I stopped the Bisoprolol today for the procedure. I am very anxious

about this procedure.

You can confidently expect to do very well and to be SVT free after your ablation. Your anxiety is normal and understandable. Most folks feel much as youy do as their procedure approaches. We all wish you very well and hope to hear a positive report from you after your ablation.

Thank you Gene, I am sure all will be well. It's just the anxiety that actually is the worst.

I think to take comfort from all the feedback available on this site and other internet forums which is by and large positive. My wife is due to have her ablation for SVT on 1st June 16 and we were/are also nervous. We asked to see the consultant managing my wife's case (not carrying out the proceedure) and he was very reassuring. Good luck and I'm sure you will be fine.

And your wife and, therefore, you will be fine, too. Comforting thoughts, I hope.

      Hello Planner1

Just was wondering how your wife's ablation went on June 1st ?

      Hello Lolasmom,

Thank you for prompting me; I had intended updating you on my wife's ablation but I was waiting for a period of time to pass to be clearer about her current state of health. Ok, my wife nervously went for her ablation on 1st June just after 11am. I was told the operation would last between 2 to 4 hour but less than 2 hours later I got message to say that she was back on the ward. She was quite drowsy at this point but able to tallk a little and told me she was ok. She said that she was not totally anaesthetised but drifted in and out of consciousness during the procedure. One of the occasions when she did wake was when they triggered her palpitations. After a while when on the ward the surgeon who carried out the op came to see her and stated that the operation was a success. We knew that she was to remain in hospital overnight due to the puncture in her groin where the device was inserted. I arrived the next morning when the nurse was going through the discharge procedure but when my wife tried to get uo she felt very feint. They called the surgeon to take a look at my wife and she examined her with an ultrasound scanner but after this stated that she could find nothing wrong but thought my wife could be dehydrated. She advised the nursing team to put her on a drip for an hour and leave her for a further hour to rest. The surgeon came again to see my wife after this and at this stage my wife was feeling better so it was agreed that she could return home. So we have been home 6 days now and generally my wife is getting better but she lacks energy and gets some occasional heart twinges but has not had any of the palpitations she had before the op. We are due to see the consultant who oversaw the op in 2-3 months time. So in summary we are hoping that 'success' is exactly that and that she will be free of her palpitations and associated issues. Only time will tell and hopefuly during this period she will regain her energy and be able to enjoy life without any health worries. While I feel rather like the father after the birth of his baby saying he didn't feel a thing, I cannot convey what it was actually like for my wife during and after the procedure but she has come through it and is on the road to recovery. So my best wishes to you for your operation and I hope that our experience is reassuring for you.

Thank you for rooting for my wife on 1st June - your messages clearly gave us a good result. We will similarly be sending positive thoughts for you on the 22nd June and, as already been said, take your mind off the operation by thinking about enjoyable holiday's or experiences you have had. I'm sure you will not then be anxious and it will soon all be over and you will be back in good health. Oh and we are in the UK so it was good old NHS that looked after my wife.

Just to let you know you will be in our thoughts on the 22nd. Remember to think happy thoughts; a day out to Niagara Falls perhaps. Walking down Falls Road above the river and then seeing the water cascading over the crest of the fall and crashing into the river below throwing up huge plumes of spray over Queen Victoria Place. Feel the power of the water and the amazing sight of nature in all its wondrous glory. Stop for a coffee with your family in Tim Hortons and chat about this incredible scene. And then when you come out of theatre you can you can let us all know that it is over and it has been a success. Good luck.

My wife and I were talking about you yesterday and just hoping your operation would be a success so we are very dissappointed to hear your news and very sorry for you to have gone through all those hours in theatre with no good result. In the articles I read prior to my wife's ablation, it did say the some people would need more than one session of treatment so it seems that you are one of these. I'm sure you will get there in the end; listen to what the doctors tell you about the next step and follow their advice. Good luck and keep us informed with your progress.
