chronic stomach pains

I've been in pain now for about 4 months, like, everyday. I feel as though there is a very tight belt around my mid section. It doesn't make me feel nauseous really, it just hurts quite a lot.

It doesn't seem to be there in the mornings, but throughout the day it will emerge and it will more often be at its worst in the evenings. It feels as though there is someone's fist in my stomach, like I've swallowed a rock or something.

My doctor didn't suspect that it was an ulcer, or cancer. I had a lot of blood tests that suggested that I am "fine"... which was great news I suppose. I am currently on Omeprazole tablets 20mg I think, I take 4 a day of those. To be quite honest I don't think they're doing a damn thing.

I don't drink or smoke, I don't do any drugs blah blah blah. I eat a fairly well balanced diet. Since this whole thing begun in September I fluctuated between eating and not eating at all for how much I was worried about myself.

I am truly at a loss. I am booked in to see a specialist GI doctor on the 14th of January... which is bullsh*t. I have to put up with feeling like this over the christmas period. What fun. But this pain has become my new normal, so whatever I guess.

Does anyone on this site have any suggestions? Anything at all?

I know this post is quiet old at this point, but I thought I'd add something in case you're still searching or anyone else comes across looking.

The "tight belt around the midsection" is something I began experiencing after a spinal cord injury, and I occasionnally have the rock-in-my-stomach feeling, especially when my "belt" is feeling particularly tight.  In my case it is similar to the "hug" MS patients feel and due to a discrett

Sorry!  Not sure why I cannot edit this post but it submitted before I was finished!

*discrete spinal lesion that gives me some spacticity around my midsection.  When I was first injured my digestion seemed to have slowed too, and I always attributed the rock feeling to that.

So I know it's a bit out of the box, but you might consider looking into your spine health, especially considering the belt feeling.  That really sounds more like spine than stomach to me.

Hi, have read your article and for the first time i can actually relate to someone with similar pain.I had a disc herneation which was pressing on a nerve, therefore causing sciatica.Three year's ago i had surgery however since that time i began to feel a tightness in my upper abdomen, quite naturally i thought it would go once i had healed. However it has remained and is there 24/7, i have tried various medication's and have never been told that it is related to my spine.I am now awaiting an endoscopy inwhich after reading several post's am not that confident they will find anything, my quality of life has become pretty naff to say the least.Being on my feet increases the tightness and my stomach extends to the size of a football.I do have yet another disc herneation, however MORE surgery i am not so confident as i feel i have more pain in my abdomen than my back to be honest. Are you able to help with anything that you yourself have found to be helpful. Thankyou.

I too was diagnosed with h pylori and went through months of antibiotic/anti fungal treatments. It kept recurring a couple of weeks after I finished a regime. Finally, I began taking probiotics and after a little while realized that I'd had no more episodes! This was remarkable since I've suffered for about 17 years.  If I skip taking them for a few weeks I may have an episode but then Im back on the probiotics for a few days and all better again.

Omg cant beliebe there are other people going through this! I have had problems with my stomach for the last 3-4 years. I get chronic pain, to the point I have been hospitalised with it numerous times. I also vomit weekly, usually up to 4 days a week (not always consecutive). I can't tolerate certain foods/drinks, cant and dont drink alcohol or smoke and cant be in the heat for very long periods of time.

When my pain gets really bad and I end up in hospital they put me under and on a drip until it goes away as on the bad times, I physically cannot stop vomiting.

The vomiting doesnt really bother me anymore as im used to it but the pain associated with it is excruciating.

I am on Pantaprazole 40mg daily, and used to be on Pantaprazole 40mg and Omeprazole 20mg every morning. They cut it back hoping I would be okay but no luck. I originally was put on Omeprazole 20mg once daily and this did absolutely nothing.

I have had ultrasounds, an endoscope, scans, blood tests, and even been to a gynachologist. No one knows what is wrong.

I have been told by numerous, doctors, specialists etc. that they can't find anything wrong.

Some days I wont have a problem, however other days (like today) I have had to leave work early due to uncontrollable sever pain amd vomiting. My Pantaprazole no longer does anything. Counter pain killers dont help ease the pain; Currently on comforal which is just 470mg paracetemol and 30g codiene. They help with the general pain but not when it's chronic.

I have been tested for food allergies including Celiacs disease, lactose intolerance, gluten etc and all clear.

Desperately in need of answers,.I can't afford to miss work constantly when I need to pay bills and for medication to try and help me. Its doing my head in! Please help! I live in Queensland Australia if anyone knows of any good specialists around!

Hi. Andy, I happy to hear you're doing better now.

I'm having the same thing already for over a year.

Pain in rib area, around the stomach, on the left side (sometimes in the front, sometimes in the back). It fills like a pulled muscle at times. It doesn't seem to be there in the mornings, but throughout the day it will emerge and it will more often be at its worst in the evenings. In the evening i get some pain on the rib area left when turning or bending, as if something was there or i got a pulled muscle. In the morning it is usually gone, but then after eating the stomach gets upset and the whole story starts over again.

I'm 38, eat healthy, do a lot of sports (running), don't drink nor smoke. I easily get stressed, though. In fact, the whole thing started after a very stressful period.

I got extensive blood checks, stool tests for H.Pylori and other bacteria and also an echography and all were fine. I was also on omeprazole 20g for 8 weeks, but it did not do much (actually, the reaction after i stopped taking them was the worse thing, because they create dependency). The doctor thinks that it is a functional problem (functional dyspepsia). Well, if it's that it is not so bad and I will have to live with it. But the problem is that the pain is still there and I get anxious and I start to think that maybe it is something much worse, and then get very stressed again. And this is not helping.

Is anyone here dealing with similar "functional stomach "problems? How do you cope with them?  How did you get diagnosed?

Sounds like your gall bladder, have it checked and try to avoid fried foods and sugar see if the pain subsides. Really sounds like gall bladder, I had mine removed and had the same symptoms pain in my rib cage that was reached to my back sometimes felt like I was having a heart attack then it would make me vomit uncontrollably. the pain can last anywhere From a couple of minutes to a few hours. I hope you can figure it out god bless you

Where in your stomach is the pain located above or below belly button and is it a dull or sharp pain?

I promise you if you stopped eating grains for 2 weeks all your stomach pain would stop. Dr's don't know crap about gluten allergies but it's real and destroyed my life and my guts for so long, since I cut out grains and replaced sugar with honey I became a new person. I'm not saying it wasn't extremely difficult to stop eating grains and sugar for I was addicted to both of those things. but once I started and stuck with it i didnt want those things anymore even thinking about it turn me off. now I crave fresh vegetables and fruit good quality meat and dairy. this is just a suggestion but you can't make someone do something if they really don't want to but there will come a day when you're willing to try anything just to make the pain stop trust me I've been there. good luck to you my heart goes out to you don't waste anymore of your years doubled over in pain laying in a dark room with no life.

Feeling like a belt is around you, under your breast area could indicate pancreatitis. Blood test is not always useful and doctors do not always think about testing for pancreatitis.  Everyone on this site should rule out pancreatitis because they all have the same symptoms. I hope your daughter is doing well now and I hope with all my heart it is not pancreatitis. God's blessings

It's probably built up gas on the upper part of her stomach.  Try a carbonated drink maybe 7-up mixed with baking soda to help with burping to relieve the gas.

Also, Gavascon might help alleviate it, too.
