Cold sensation when breathing in!

Hi all

PLEASE PLEASE I need some advice if anyone has experienced these symptoms.....

For the last 6 months or so I have been coughing more so at night during my sleep and it wakes me up. Initially when I went to the Dr she thought I had acid reflux (which I have suffered from in the past), she put me on lansaprasole for 12 weeks and the cough has not stopped. I then saw another Dr whom said they need to do a chest xray so I had this done 10 days ago, the result is clear. The Dr gave me an reliever inhaler.

My symptoms are ~

Coughing that wakes me at night, dry and unproductive

Clearing throat all day

Tight feeling around the thyroid area

Blocked sound by throat when I breathe in (not a chest wheeze)

Scratch in my throat when I breathe in which provokes the cough

Cold air sensation when I inhale, this is constant

The Dr has referred me for a Spirometry and Reversability lung function test which is in 3 weeks. My son has extreme asthma and my grandmother had asthma which she developed in her 40's.

I used to be a smoker for 17 years, recently stopped 8 weeks ago.

The throat condition has been going on since last year, I had a clear xray Jan 2016 including a clear scope down the nose into my voicebox and lyranx together with an endoscopy to check for acid reflux - all clear! Series of 5 lots of FBC's & CA125 tests and thyroid blood tests - normal!

I am petrified I have an undetected lung cancer now, but the Dr thinks I have nocturnal & seasonal asthma. I use the inhaler when I feel blocked but it only last for a few hours where I feel some relief! At times it feels like I am breathing through a straw or piece of cloth!

ANY advice is very welcomed, this is driving me mad...........

Thank you

Hi, this is the third time i am trying to share with people how I got read of my issues.

But keep getting blocked. Because this method is well known and can be researched and there is a documentary about it. but when I put the name to it, my posts are being blocked .althouh it is not commercial thing. It is free to anyone! Therefore i will just give you the instructions as i trully want to help.

every morning, breath actively for 15 seconds, then exhale and hold your breath for as long as you can, you can always have a stop watch just so you know how long you lasted. Then inhale, and do the the same. This should be repeated 4-5 times.

i was struggling for 1.5 months with that issue, but this exercise helped me completely to get read of it. It has many benefits as well. It boosts your immune system etc

Please do try and let everyone know if it worked for you. So that others try to!

    good luck

hey everyone feel free to message me! this all sounds like Mast Cell Activation. high prostaglandins will cause lung inflammation also brochoconstriction/spasm. anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen and asprin work to block prostaglandin. dealing with the same issue however i have a fear of medcation and afraid ill have a reaction to the meds.

Hi Kay, I have an update for you however patient.info is not posting my experience for one reason or another. I finally found answers and am in treatment. Overall my digestive system is the culprit of my breathing and throat symptoms. If you are interested, I'm happy to email you how my doctors came to this conclusion and the hoops I jumped through to get to a point that symptoms are shifting. Although this is a lengthy recovery.

    Hi Kay.

I hope this message finds you feeling better. I wondered if you or any readers here have ever been exposed to mold? I have had many of your symptoms for over a year.

I was sick with pneumonia and bronchitis for a year never getting completely better.

I realized I was sitting in a mold infested building during that time.

    I asked to be moved

from the building where the mold was found. I started to get better and not so sick all the time but never fully getting rid of the cough.

I still have the constant cough sometimes alittle productive, sometimes dry, and recently the cold sensation in my throat, chest and under my tongue. My right ear feels full most of the time and when I bend over sometimes feel like I am under water. Anyone?

Lord, I have spend HOURS searching the internet trying to find answers for my husband. I read off your initial list of symptoms, and my husband has EVERY one of them. He doesn't have allergies, doesn't have asthma, We were at a loss, but reading through the comments here, I have some new ideas for his doctors to look at. Thank you so much for this thread, I am praying we can find an answer to his problems, so he can breath better.

      Hi there

Its been years living with this and its just horrible!

I have cat allergies and I live with a cat so not 100% sure if its the allergies or something else.

Does your husband smoke? As I do, this can also play a part most definitely.

I suspect your husband has a cough to go with it too? Does he feel like he is breathing through a straw or cloth at times when it happens?

Its the weirdest sensation I have ever had, the Dr's here cant find an explanation for it to this day.....

I also sometimes feels that it comes on when I am walking alot, so sometimes its exercise induced...

Let me know what tests your husband has been for so far?

What I am afraid of is that this could be the first onset of COPD.....

I coughed for a year and the pulmonologist ran tests and xrays he could not find anything. I got a bladder infection so I was prescribed medicine for a bacterial infection - after about 3 days of the medicine my chronic cough was over

IF you have a chronic cough be sure to check for something simple as a bacterial infection.

    Hi.

    i saw your post.

curious, do you still have your tonsils?

    do you smoke menthols?

    take probiotics?

    were the antibiotics penicillin/ampicillin based?

had dental problems/sinusitis? during this time?

    • Posted

i do smoke menthols yes they were penicillan I believe. no dental issues or sinus at the time it just started out of nowhere one day. My Dr says there is no condition to explain it. I was diagnosed with globus also during that time

I too suffer from dust allergy and pollen attacks. IMO a lot of it is avoiding bad pollen environments. A proper pollen alert system, I am trying out ClimaCell currently it appears to be good so far, can let you know which days to avoid even at a very local level. Let me know if this helps, stay safe 😃

Hi, I've been experiencing the same things, but my biggest concern is that, every time I breathe, a cold breeze comes threw my throat it becomes very annoying but it never goes away. I've had this problem for over 4 years. If anyone has some kind of solution, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
