I found in wikipedia: "For example, in one 6-week study, the median time to achieving consistent response was 29 days."
It is really a long time before full benefits can be noticed.

Another good thread is this one:
It talks about how a lot of people mess about with their dosage about week 3 - 5 and that can set them right back to the start. I don't think everyone turns as quickly as I have but know that if you're anything less than 5 - 6 weeks in it really is too early to say if it's working or not. I know that's a nightmare to get through but you can do it. I was on another med for 7 weeks so it's been more like 11 weeks for me and you do get there but you just have to take it one day at a time.
All the best

Found this post very reassuring! I have just started Fluoxetine and am on my 5th day. I'm only in my mid twenties but have had an awful year so far and was struggling to cope. Can't say I've noticed many side effects so far except continuously being thirsty with a dry mouth. Think I'll be more prepared to sit it out if I do experience any more after reading this and wait for the benefits to come..
Would be interested to know if all of your side effects have settled now?

I would stick with the same dose, it seems that if you change dose this then that almost resets when the side effects reduce. Google "timetable for recovery on fluoxetine" and have a look at the top result there. This is a good summary of what someone has found and it's pretty much spot on for what I've found.
You will get there but it will likely be a few weeks till you are feeling different. I wish I could say that it will get better tomorrow but it's likely to take longer. The good news is it will happen and you NEED to hold onto that. I thought I'd never get there and I'm now in week 8 and feeling much different but still having difficult days. Take care

I've just counted in my diary and I'll have eight weeks of Fluox done on Friday - so I'm a bit ahead of you. My experience was that the 'side effects' you describe will pass and normality will return - fairly soon, I think. You won't turn crazy!! Sounds like youstill have adrenaline pumping around quite frequently so that plus thhe Fluox will give you 'strange' thinking and other panic/anxiety relatedd stuff to contend with.
My head was full of suicidal ideation a few weeks ago and now I'm happy as Larry and enjoying my life again - feel quite normal, relaxed and content.
Keep it up and you wiwll get to the end - life again!

I am am five months in 10 weeks on 20 mg and the rest on 40 mg
it takes a long time and it's only in the last few weeks I have felt better more positive with more energy. I felt that it took forever andI I felt like giving up but due mainly to support on here I stuck with it and it's worth it to get up in the morning without that knot of anxiety and fear of the day ahead. I know it's hard when you feel anxious
but it is worth it in the end.

Thanks for your update it really helps to know others get better but can be a long time. Im getting to wk 8 tho it does feel like an eternity but a lot has settled for me over last 2wks. Had serious blues (without too many physical side effects) for the last wk but that seems to have lifted a bit today so hopefully im getting there.
Thanks for your feedback, have a great christmas

PS I do fear these meds but I'm sure after 6 weeks if I was going to react badly it would of happened now, hopefully better from this point.
