Constant bleeding - perimenopause? Hysteroscopy needed?
Posted , 121 users are following.
Hi,
I've had continuous bleeding for a few months - the period stops for a few days and then starts again, sometimes with clots.
I had hysteroscopy with biopsy about 1.5 years ago( had then some spotting between periods), didn't feel great for a month after that, and the results were ok, had an ultrasound a few days ago which is ok. Now the gynaecologist suggests another hysteroscopy. Is it necessary to have it? Will I be having them every year until it stops? Are there any other tests to make sure that its perimenopause and nothing sinister?
Thanks

How are you doing now? I am 51. In late March I got a period that lasted three weeks. The gynecologist put me on a pill called megestrol, which was supposed to shrink my fibroids (oh yes I forgot to mention I have fibroids) and stop the bleeding. At first, the pill did work and did stop the bleeding, but now it's back. I just went back to gynecologist who is suggesting a hysterectomy, which ofcourse I do not want. Please for how many months did you bleed without stopping? I have read that other women have gone through this non stop, constant bleeding during perimenopause. What else can you tell me or suggest? THANK YOU!

I'm 49 years old and I am experiencing exactly what you describe. For the first time in my life, I'm in my 21st day of bleeding ( spotting I would say). My period started O.K but doesn't seem to end. The longest period ever!!!! A week ago, I went to the gynecologist and I had an ultrasound that was O.K. Doc prescribed progesterone and transamin but the situation is still the same. It's nice to know that someone, somewhere, understands. Bye now.

Delilah,
I'm just seeing this and I'm in the same boat. I'm 49 and have experienced heavier closer times periods over the last couple years. A couple of months back I bled for a day stopped for 15 then had a period. Following month I spotted from day 14 to 25 on and off and have had continuous light bleeding for the last 2 weeks. Until today I've had no cramping.(now it is very minor) mine stops at night as well and actually only seems to start when I'm vertical and living around! I've always had normal paps as well. I haven't seen the obgyn since this new bleeding has started but am due in a couple of weeks for my annual so I figured if wait. I'm hoping it's just the hormones and he can regulate it.

Hello
I know or was 2 years ago for you but the same thing is happening to me at the moment : very very light bleeding, nothing at night but essentially when I go to the toilets . It's been 3 weeks now and I start to worry! It stopped one day only !
I'm 51 and my period have been regular so far. It started to change in April.
Do you think I should worry about that?
How ARE you today?

I'm the same... I suddenly had a super heavy bleed then the next period I just didn't stop. I was quite bad and ended up at the hospital had scans and hysterscopy and all normal. It stopped for a year then started up again just the same. Nothing at night really, sometimes watery in the day, sometime just a teeny spot other times heavy and sudden. So far in last 3 years I've managed two months off and two weeks free the rest of the time I've at least had a spot. Off to docs just to recheck things but since everyone is having the same I'm hoping it's just the way my body has decided to be.

My mom had her menopause for 7 years now and it's clearly not normal for her to bleed and as what the doctor said, she have some swelling in her uterus which obviously causes the bleeding and needed some ultrasound to see if there exists some cysts. She's 57 now by the way.

Delilah's comment was not rude at all. English is a very confusing language where certain words and phrases can have more than 1 meaning. She simply wanted you to let us know what the outcome of your mom's bleeding situatin is. Did she find the right treatment and is she doing alright. I also think she meant to say "Let us know how your mom makes out". Not "who your mom makes out". There is a big difference in interpretation.
Check into a uterine ablasion for you mom. This procedure stopped my bleeding 6 years ago. It has never come back.
