Constant bleeding - perimenopause? Hysteroscopy needed?

Posted , 121 users are following.

Hi,

I've had continuous bleeding for a few months - the period stops for a few days and then starts again, sometimes with clots.

I had hysteroscopy with biopsy about 1.5 years ago( had then some spotting between periods), didn't feel great for a month after that, and the results were ok, had an ultrasound a few days ago which is ok. Now the gynaecologist suggests another hysteroscopy. Is it necessary to have it? Will I be having them every year until it stops? Are there any other tests to make sure that its perimenopause and nothing sinister?

Thanks

Hi I am 39 and I'm so glad I found this. I have been so worried. I've always had heavy bleeding but not for more than a week. I will be 40 this year and I have started bleeding for more thank 2 weeks twice this year. I started to worry a lot and the doctors did a pelvic ultrasound and said that there was nothing abnormal. They said I was probably starting perimenopause. They had me start birth control pills to regulate it. The pills make me sick. During perimenopause do women just deal with the bleeding until it stops or do they take birth control.

My doc gave me transcanemic acid and medroprogeterin  pills to take with onset bleeding.  As far as bc it is a matter of risk factors and family history to use BC pills.

My dr tried to give me the deppo shot but I refused because I am 40 years old and I smoke cigarettes. Although the bleeding has stopped for now I will just deal with it and keep taking the women's one a day vitamins because going through Peri is hard enough without having to worry about side effects and complications from the birth control

Go see your gp again and ask for tranexamic acid tablets. It's not Hrt you take it when your period starts and it should make the bleeding less. Insist on a blood test to see if anaemic and the gp will tell you how much iron to take. You need to discover why you are bleeding so much. If nothing came up on the scan ask to be referred or a gynae they can then talk you through various things they can look at. Could be because you have endremetrois, or thickening of the womb lining this wil not come up on ultrasound. Best to check at this early stage as procedure to help you will be easier. I didn't just put up and now at 52 I am just recovering from a hysterectomy. Go see a gynae Gp just fob you off and know nothing. One easy solution is to have a mirena coil that should calm the bleeding if not stop eventually.

I saw my doc and a gyn. They said i had thick lining in my uterus and a simple cyst that wasn't big enough to worry about. So that's why they said I could take birth control but i hate it. They also gave the option of uterine ablation and hysterctome and other birth control methods.

      Hi cristina

i have had simple ovarian cysts before .. They are follicular cysts ..

all related with periods, we all have them.. But sometimes a period

doesnt  come and the follicular cyst grows, i had ultra sounds etc, one of mine was quite big like a satsuma .. The Gyno said i needed a good period to disperse it .. but being in peri wasnt having them regular ..

All corrected itself and they did disperse on there own..

as for a thickened uterine wall, the uterine ablation ( scrape ) is a simple procedure and normally in and out same day..

hysterectomy is abit severe ... Should be last resort..

years ago i had severe endometriosis and could barely walk with

pulling adhesions , i was told a hysterectomy but i opted for laser treatment and it was successful so i would of had a hyster for no reason aged 31 then..

      Good luck hun

      try not to worry

A friend of mine had an ablation was home on the same day. She had suffered for years and this really worked for her. Need to have finished having children as it makes you infertile. I am surprised they have not offered you the mirena coil first as this can be very effective. I wanted an ablation but my fibroids were too big to do it. Had my gp referred me earlier to a gynae when they were smaller it would have been possible.

It's been awhile since this was posted so don't know if anyone is watching the discussion. But if so, what did u find out? I am 38 and missed my period for 2 mths. Then finally started and have been bleeding for 20 days with heavy bleeding and large clots. I finally go to doctor tomorrow. I'm a little nervous. I have had my tubes tied.

When you srr Dr ask for a ultra sound and blood test for anemia and get referral to gynae .With my constant bleeding they gave me normsthrone not sure of spelling. It's not the answer as it just band aids the symptoms. Unfortunately for me I had a fibroid in the middle of my womb. My only option was hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. But you may be different and if nothing found via ultra sound see gp or gynae appointment as need to find out why bleeding as long as that. When they did my hysterectomy they found endemtrosis on my womb and overy I never suffered from this but wonder now if this was the real cause of the bleeding. You will need a hyster scope to have a proper look around. Wish I had seen a gynae earlier but my gp never referred me and I never though to ask. Had she done so I may have had a easier procedure like a ablation rather than a hysterectomy

Hi Polly, thank-you for this thread. Looking for answers myself on the benefits of the mirena coil used for aiding in the pre-menopausal heavier bleeding issues. I'm 47 going on 147 it feels some days. Not seeing anyone saying if they found much help from them. So thinking it might be best to try waiting out the golden months without having foreign objects inserted. Will go ahead with the scan/hysterdcopy/biopsy the doctor has already booked for me, just to make sure there is nothing else wrong. Glad to read that what I'm doing with taking supplement Vital complex and iron tonics seems to be the cure of the day at the moment.

Here's to an easier life for next generation hey.

    Cheers M

Hiya I am new to this discussion but I just wanted to say I am 50 years old and I started to bleed last April 2014 and it dint stop till January 2015. I had blood tests and ultrasound and pelvic exam with nothing found. I just 5 weeks ago started bleeding again and it's slowly been getting heavier so I've had to stop work again as it seems worse when I'm on my feet all day. Feeling very low as nothing seems to help. Tranexamic acid did nothing and the 3 monthly injection didn't work either. Don't want the coil. Just want it all to stop now. Thank you for listening

      Hi stephanie

when you say the three monthly injection - do you mean Depo Provera ?

i had that twice when i was 39 and i bles for 21 months and then went into early peri menopause ..

i am post meno now age 51 ..

depo caused me no end of problems - even had two large cysts too back then after thise injections .. They did the opposite for me and made me bleed non stop for 21 months .. It varied from heavy, normal, light and spotting - lucky if i had 2 free days in 21 months 😩

i am okay now - dont take HRT .l had a ten year natural peri and almost 2 years post meno now ..

      thanks for sharing

Hiya Jay, thank you for your reply. Yes I had the depo provera, all it did was make me feel depressed, did nothing for my bleeding. I am cosier ingredients going back the docs although I don't know what else they will suggest. I have avoided hrt so far as I have heard bad things. Thanks x

Hi Stephanie, I have also had heavy clotted bleeding a few times - about to have 2nd d and c and hysteroscopy - but mirena isserted this time so as I can resume hrt without the risk of my lining thickening too rapidly again. not happy re the Mirena - but other options (ablation and hysterectomy too drastic and the ablstion does not always work) Mirena may not either - i am told - arghhh - do love hrt though made me completely normal, energentic happy again - cant wait to get back onto it - good luck - keep us all posted x
