Constant Nausea and Vomiting for 2 years now. Doctors are no help.

I have no idea what to do anymore. I am at the point where I just want to give up on everything. It all started about 2 years ago when I was at a friends house eating some pizza and relaxing. In the middle of the night I started getting some severe pains under my right rib cage and some ridiculous nausea and vomiting. This lasted all night and I ended up staying awake all night vomiting. After that night I never really felt the same. I ended up going to the emergency room because I was in so much pain and I couldn't keep anything down. Doctors said that the pain could very well be gallbladder so I went to a hospital and got an ultrasound right away.

I ended up doing the ultrasound and doctors found no gallstones or anything wrong with me. They prescribed me omeprazole and sent me on my way. It has been almost 2 years since that night and I have been to the emergency room a total of 4 times. And I have been to a gastroenterology specialist 5 times and Have seen two other doctors as well. I have had a HIDA Scan which came back normal. An upper endoscopy which came back with inflammation of my esophogus but nothing else and many blood tests. I tried reglan recently and it did not help at all.

I am going to see my doctor again tomorrow but I already know what is going to happen. He is going to tell me there is nothing he can do, like always. I am at the point where I am vomiting a total of 10 to 15 times a day. My nausea is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable and only occurs after I eat something.  The odd thing is the pain under my right rib cage is gone but my nausea and vomiting are MUCH worse now. Even drinking water has started to cause me discomfort and nausea. Most of the time its the worst when i eat something greasy or full of fat.

I am still convinced it has something to do with my gallbladder and pancreas but the tests say otherwise I guess. I don't know what I thought I would get out of posting this. I just figured maybe somebody out there has been dealing with the same problem. Maybe I can get some help. I am only 21 years old and I just want to have a normal life again. I have no idea what I did to deserve something like this but its just plain crippling.

    Hi Andrew,

Has anyone ever mentioned gastroparesis as a possibile cause of your symptoms?  I've had problems with nausea and vomiting for almost 8 years and despite numerous visits to my GP and consultant don't feel like the cause has ever been properly diagnosed.  I came across gastroparesis when Googling (for the upteenth time) 'chronic nausea' and the symptoms certainly seem to match mine.  You say that you are having a gastric emptying test soon and that should determine if the cause is gastroparesis.  After hassling my consultant a bit I've finally got one in a few weeks.

I've suffered with these problems for a long time.  Symptoms seem to come and go in waves although I never feel really 'well'.  When I have a bad bout which lasts for several months it has, in the past, caused me to have spells of depression and anxiety despite having no previous history of either.  It's just very, very hard to cope with.

I recently went to my GP with my self diagnosis and was prescribed with domperidone (I basically had to ask for it) and so far that seems to be helping me quite a bit and so might be worth you trying.

Hope you get this sorted out soon, I know how horrible and debilitating it can be to just feel sick all of the time.

Its looking more and more like I have gastroparesis.

I had my gastric empty test a few days ago and it says I have prolonged gastric emptying. My blood tests also came back with a lot of malnutrition and dehydration. Hopefully my doctor will start to take me more serious after seeing this test. I am hoping that I can get some closure

Promethazine has been working for me lately. I've been going through these problems for at least a few years. I've been told cvs and I've also been told I have gasteroparesis or gastritis or whatever. I only recently researched dgl. I came across it doing something else and I want to try it out.

Have you asked your doctore about CVS  Cyclic Vomitting Syndrome? There are many groups on facebook related to this. I have been diagnosed with it after many years of suffering. The bad thing is there is no cure but there are different ways you can prepare for an attack. Many doctors  agree with it and many doctors dont. Check it out though, it's worth the peace of mind at least knowing this could be it and maybe managable.  Good luck

      Hi Tony

Have you ever got a diagnosis or something that helps. My husband has had extreme nausea and vomiting for 2 years. He’s getting sicker and sicker. Weaker and weaker. He’s had every test the multiple Specialist s can think off. They are giving up on him. No drugs control it either. But they insist no reason can be found. We are desperate. Hope you are well now and have some help to pass on

I cannot remember who and where in this forum I read about a similar story.

The 'ultrasound' you refer to is a transabdominal one, right?

For that person, CT, transabdominal (via skin) ultrasound, HIDA were normal regarding bile ducts/gallbladder,

BUT only an internal dye test diagnosed his bile duct problems (some stones cannot be seen).

Tests were called ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography)

and EU (endoscopic-from inside- ultrasound) and from there finally was treated successfully.

Those tests are bit invasive since endoscope is needed.

Sorry dear, been going through this for the past 7 yrs vomiting and loosing weight. Seen by 5 GI doctors all with no solutions. But luckily for me my wife a NURSE practitioner recently wrote me a medication to stop the vomi9 and it has been a great help but the only problem with this medication is that it will put you to sleep in 1 or 2 hrs. So, it can only be taking at night and wait to go to bed. No driving or missing woth alcohol. No day time usage. (CHLORPROMAZINE 25 MG) Been good to me for my vomiting. Goodluck..

    Hello Andrew!

First let me say I can very well relate to your issues! 22 months of vomiting every single day, right here. In fact, after reading your post, I had to check it again to make sure I didn't write it and forgot about it. Regardless, my case is slightly different in that my gallbladder was removed in 2010.

My symptoms came on suddenly January 18, 2015. I now hurl at least once per day. I am going on 22 months of vomiting. I have seen several doctors, but as I am sure you know from experience, they get expensive after some time. I have no insurance so I have been referred to the top charity hospital in my state. They have yet to get me in for an appointment. If/when they get me in, I hope they will figure out what is going on, but I am not optimistic. Many blood tests, several H-pylori tests, several other screens and MRIs and CT Scans reveal...absolutely nothing.

I have been unable to work as nausea/vomiting and severe pain keep me from talking to anyone (even my family) on the phone for too long. I have been in the IT field for years and it sucks not being able to work - even from home. But regardless, I did not see where you had a confirmed diagnosis. Did you ever get one? I'd love to be able to go to my nex appointment with something--anything!

Phenergan is the medicine they've prescribed consistently after I built up an immunity to Zofran last year. Of course, Phenergan no longer helps either since I'm up to 50-100mg/day with no change. Also, any food (and even water or nothing at all) comes right back up. I've tried cutting down to a vegan diet or even just the common BRAT diet. Nothing helps. I'm also allergic to so many things I am unable to take most any antibiotic and I cannot eat Fish of any kind or Mushrooms! It has become so bad, I don't want to eat, but the catch 22 is I am also hypoglycemic, so if I do not eat or drink something with sugar all day (which I did twice in the last month because eating food and vomiting did not appeal to me) I start shaking and pass out! After eating to bring my sugar level up those two days, I vomited almost immediately. They've even tested me for diabetes which is where gastroperesis usually originates, and I am not diabetic.

Oh, and since I am a female, last year between January and July I was at the ER 28 times and that amounted to 28 pregnancy tests, even though I told them about the tubal ligation I had several years ago. I have three teenagers and I know where babies come from and I am not pregnant. 😐 I don't know what it is about healthcare professionals who do not LISTEN to their patients. I get that people lie for various reasons, but if someone is in this much pain and they are suffering, unless you hear they are also a masochist, it is a safe bet they are not lying!

My life has changed drastically and there is no end in sight. So let's hope you have better luck!

Bottom line: I hope you found out the cause and I'd love to hear about it.

Hello, I can't believe that I never came back to tell everybody how I am doing. Sorry for that and sorry for what you are dealing with as well.

I ended up being diagnosed with GERD, Gastritis and delayed gastric emptying. I doubled my dosage of Omeperazole daily and also lowered my stress levels quite a bit. I can now basically eat anything I want with the exception of deep fried foods. As long as I do not overdue it and eat smaller meals. Instead of eating three meals a day. My doctor told me to eat 6 very small meals daily and it has been doing wonders for me. I still get nausea from time to time if I eat too much. I have only vomited a total of 5-6 times in the bast 6 months since I changed everything. Which is amazing compared to before.

      Thanks guys smile

      Hello Andrew!

Glad to hear back from you! I just recently received a diagnosis, as well! Turns out it is Crohn's Disease. I see a Doctor in July since that is the earliest I can get to him at Scott & White.

Best of luck to you with your issue!

Hi, my husband is having the same horrible nausea and vomiting. 10 times a Day is a good day. He’s had all the tests according to the numerous Specialists he’s been too. They are just telling him now they don’t know and have no more tests to do. They throw medication at him but nothing stops it. Have you had any recent luck or breakthrough that you could share
