Constant, odd , 'cold' feeling in throat and roof of mouth...anyone else have this with reflux?

Hi all
For a long time now I have been experiencing the oddest sensation and I am not sure if it is to do with acid reflux. I have a very cold, almost 'minty' sensation in my mouth all the time. it feels like the sensation you have when you breath in after cleaning your teeth, or after sucking a strong mint. My throat and roof of mouth feels cold - not irritated - just cold and tingly.
I have had problems with reflux in the past and have been on proton pump inhibitors. I am not on a prescription at the moment. i have had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with acute gastritis about ten years ago. I often get heartburn and indigestion.
I have mentioned this top my GP who looks at me like I am mad and says he has never heard of it.
However, I am not imagining it, and wondered if this odd symptom was shared by anyone else with reflux.
I am a lady of a 'certain age' .........and I have read on the net that this odd sensory change could have something to do with hormonal changes at menopause. Just trying to rule everything out, so would be grateful for any input.
Thanks

I have been dealing with a lot of the same symptoms from this thread for just about 11 days now. It's nice to know that its not all just in my head lol.
I'm 28 years old, dealing with some vascular and nerve issues. I had a sports injury to the neck from 5 months ago, and just now starting to show symptoms. It started with just dry mouth during the night, to to then a stuffy nose, to then having a random panic attack, then having one or two acid reflux episodes, and now I have the constant cold sensation in my nose and throat when I breathe in. I have had mild anxiety before, but now with these new symptoms my anxiety has gone through the ROOF!
I've noticed that when I cough a bit, the cool sensation goes away temporarily, but it does come back a bit later. I've been having insomnia lately, so I don't know if that might be causing this cool air feeling too?
what gives me most comfort is just breathing in through my nose. the cool air sensation becomes much more mild, but not totally gone. I think both anxiety, lack of sleep, and heavy weight loss has contributed to the cool air sensation, but again not fully sure.
I woke up today and I actually didn't have the minty cold air feeling for almost the entire day! But it actually came back as soon as I tried to get a good night's sleep lol. because of this, I'm guessing that it's most likely anxiety related.
I'm trying EVERYTHING to help improve the symptoms (air purifier, humidifier, essential oils, candles, etc.) but I don't know if any of it has had a direct effect yet.

hey guys I'm kinda late to this but I have the same feeling 2 days now. I was prescribed some hormonal pills for like 5 days and then this happened. Still don't know what it is. Might be hormones??

Seems that many of us have this same sensation.
I asked my dentist and he said it could be acid reflux, but he says because I'm going through menopause, that its most likely burning mouth syndrome.
So I googled it. Sounds legit!
Find it funny though that for several years now my main symptoms were more of a burning sensation and pain in teeth...it wasn't until last night that I had the minty, cough drop feeling feeling. Scared the heck out of me!!

i also have the cold sensation in my mouth, throat and sometimes in my esophogus. i just had an endoscopy and everything looked normal. the gastro doctor acted like he had never heard of this, but said it might be a vitamin B deficiency. i go too an ENT on July 26th. this sensation is driving me crazy. mine started after i finished chemo so i thought it had to do with the chemicals in chemo. But i see from this post that it doesnt have anything to do with chemo. if anyone sees a doctor that has heardof this , please post something!!

I developed this issue 4 months ago when I had a bout of extreme stress and then horrific depression. Now I'm stuck with this sensation of something stuck inside my soft palate on the left side of my throat. Sometimes it feels like mucus is dripping down my throat but often times nothing can be found. Every time I breathe in the left side of my throat gets a cold windy sensation that makes it feel dry and uncomfortable. Sometimes my uvula even feels like its rubbing up against my tongue. I use to get terrible wet burps and occationally at night I would get horrific reflux and would have to vomit my food back up. I altered my diet somewhat a year ago and the reflux disappeared but I guess this issue could be silent reflux.
Things I have tried: eliminating dairy, eliminating avocados and bananas, taking away almost all sugar for a whole week, multivitamins, liposomal vitamin c, vitamin d, flonase, anti histamines, mucinex, apple cider vinegar gargle, taking lyme disease related herbs for a month (no herx), salt water gargle, coconut oil pulling, antacids, betaine hcl, exercising, steam inhalation, tonsil stone removal, placing an air filter in my bedroom, excessively cleaning up dust in my bedroom, adding a humidifier, washing all the bed sheets, using hypoallergenic soap, using a gerd wedge pillow, eating less food, avoiding stressful situations.
I have found no pattern that is causing this issue and no one around me seems to even comprehend just how horrible it is. I'm only 21 but I feel old and dead inside.

I'm so sorry. And what doesn't help is when a medical professional just says, 'It's likely caused by stress." Because the sensation causes MORE stress.

Hi, just wondering if it eventually went away or you found a remedy? I've had the cold sensation in my mouth for almost two weeks now, and its also affecting my speech, as my tongue and throat feels the coldest. Any help would be appreciated.

Sudden low calorie diet? Body temperature will lower when dieting. This is a possibility.

Im so glad I found this forum. Ive been googling this for sometime. I started feeling this minty mouth sensation sometime after my root canal, which resulted in a nightmare. But I honestly thought it was nerve damage or something. I feel the sensation on my side of my teeth gums and cheeks. It sometimes rotates from left to right side. The dentist doesn't know what it is. But I'm concerned. I also experience jaw spams at night when I fall asleep, my jaw snaps shut causing me to bite my tongue. Ive since started wearing night guards. I also experience the ringing in my ears. My anxiety is also through the roof due to having 2 root canal s on the same tooth on top of these other issues. Life is just so hard sometimes.

so i had this feeling for 3 months now. its more so like a cool menthol burning sensation in the back of my throat down to esophagus and its constant all the timr. it all started with a cold or virus not sure i took antibiotics to see if it would work and it did for the pain when i swallowed but after that i still felt something weird and now this sensation has been going on since. i feel miserable and its taking over my life. idk what else it could be being that the fact i did blood work, endoscopy and some other tests im even on acid reflux medication to see if its that and it hasnt been helping. i need some help if anyone knows what this can be.

hi ladies,
i have been having the same cold sensation in my mouth too. I've had it for about 6 weeks, i thought it was thrush but pretty sure it isn't. been back and forth to doctors about it too.
I've just had covid too but definitely had this strange toothpaste sensation before, my tongue feels weird and down throat.
I am 46, so think i an pre-menapause.
Has anyone got anymore answers?
Thanks ladies xx

Hi! I found this thread because I has that cold feeling in my throat but only on my right side. It's always in the same place. second day in a row that I've felt this and it kind of freaked me out. definitely feels like a mint in your mouth and standing outside in winter taking a deep breath in. I've also felt this tightness in my chest lower part where my ribs come together. I was on pantaprozole (sp?!) for a month and felt a slight decrease in pressure but has now returned even worse. I am suppose to have a scope done but i was told that could be 6+ months away yet. Talk about sending anxiety right through the roof. I feel like its hard to breathe, like something is pushing on my lungs and also the feeling of having something stuck in my throat. I had issues with tonsil stones and sinus issues and tightness in my chest since the beginning of 2020. I was very sick in february of 2020 and 2 doctors have said they believe i had covid. It's a weird feeling and also kind of scary. So now the tonsil stones haven't been back for 3 months but now I have this cold sensation in my throat. Only felt it in the morning for a few min at a time.
