constant pain under the ribs (on the right side ..in the back)

I am experiencing this pain under my ribs, on the right side and more towards my back than in the front..for about three months now and I have to take Ibuprofen almost every day
This pain is just annoying as its not as bad to prevent me from moving or do stuff, but it is very upsetting to have to endure it every day.
I am 29 years old (woman).
I went to the doctor first in February when he tested my blood. The result came back normal (he said he tested for infections). After that I went again and he gave me an X-ray in my abdominal area..well that one came back normal too.
Now, last week (30th of May) he said he would send me through the post a form or something like that.. to go with it and have an ultrasound. I waited now a week and I cant wait to receive it already as I want to see if they will see something at the Echo scan.
I would have wanted the ultrasound taken first if you ask me..as I suspect it might be something like a kidney stone..or something like that..?
I only have this pain in my back, somewhere under my ribs (and on the right side), only when I stand.
I feel better when sitting down or lying. I am thankful for that at least..I suppose it could be worse ..so I get some break from this.
The doctor as I see him is clueless and he said that if we don't find anything after all these tests..he might just blame it on a muscle that was pulled or something..
I mean..this is ridiculous as basically it would be just a guess..even leaving it like that..
what if in time it affects me more with some other consequences?
I am very concerned already and tired with this pain.
Please I would like to know your opinions about this.
I must add that I have no other symptoms..no swellings or other problems. Just this pain every day and is constant and annoying and I just want to know what it is already to treat it and get over with my life.

I guess my point is, this pain could very well be rib or muscle pain and don't let it stress you out. If everything else shows good with pancreas and liver, there's nothing much else there that could be causing the trouble. After losing my father very young to pancreatic cancer, I was in overdrive with all sorts of things it could be including pancreatic cancer. Your doctor should investigate. You should be content with the findings once everything is examined.. Good luck and keep us posted.

Am currently being treated for very similar symptoms. Went to a GP, a chiropractor, and am now attending an excellent physiotherapist and a massage therapist. Turns out there is a muscle at the most inner part of the abdomen that is often thought of as a back muscle but it isn't. Do get some massage treatment and go see a physiotherapist for some appropriate exercises to help address this issue.
The quadratus lumborum, or QL, is a common source of lower back pain. Because the QL connects the pelvis to the spine and is therefore capable of extending the lower back when contracting bilaterally, the two QLs pick up the slack, as it were, when the lower fibers of the erector spinae are weak or inhibited (as they often are in the case of habitual seated computer use and/or the use of a lower back support in a chair). Given their comparable mechanical disadvantage, constant contraction while seated can overuse the QLs, resulting in muscle fatigue. A constantly contracted QL, like any other muscle, will experience decreased blood flow, and, in time, adhesions in the muscle and fascia may develop, the end point of which is muscle spasm.

I have a history of fibromyalgia and was wondering if there was any connection. At times it seems like muscle.. Other times it can mimic anything from kidney stones, to a muscle, or a pancreas issue, along with a host of other things. I know with fibromyalgia, it can often mimic many things as well.
It appears there's many of us with this right side upper rib pain. Meanwhile, the doctors are clueless. Like you, my pain is much better sitting or laying down. If I use a treadmill or do a fast walk anywhere, the pain intensifies.

Thank you for your post on fibromyalgia. I don't know anybody who has it and so have not been able to ask what it feels like. I've had abdominal pain for almost 2 years now and all tests have come back normal. I have no other symptoms. Apparently I'm healthy, but I am not living, that's for sure. The more I move the worse it gets. I can't sit upright for more than 2 minutes, it's excruciating. My days are spent in a lying position... which has contributed to weight gain, and I'm just waiting for a host of other issues to pop up due to inactivity.
My doc put me on Pregabalin and it has helped a bit. but It hasn't helped me live a normal life, but at least I'm not writhing in pain everyday, just some days. (I know because I said it wasn't working, and she switched me to another drug but had to start me off at a low dose... then I realized just how much it was actually helping!)
My pain is constant, (I wake with it and go to sleep... well try). I dream about it almost every night. It is always there..and just varies in intensity. It is always on the right side, mid to lower abdomen, but the pain does radiate as it intensifies, it spreads. sometimes around my hips towards the back.
It sometimes feels like I've endured multiple punches to the gut (my entire mid-to-lower ab) by Superman, sometimes it feels like I have a knife stuck in the right side, (occassionally the left side too.) Sometimes it feels like fireworks are going off inside me. Most days it feels like I'm being stabbed multiple times. The more I move, the worse it gets. My doc thinks it might be a form of fibromyalgia as the pain is only in my abdomen, but it does intensify with movement and if I sit upright.
What does your fibromyalgia feel like? How intense is the pain for you out of 10?
