constant pain under the ribs (on the right side ..in the back)

I am experiencing this pain under my ribs, on the right side and more towards my back than in the front..for about three months now and I have to take Ibuprofen almost every day

This pain is just annoying as its not as bad to prevent me from moving or do stuff, but it is very upsetting to have to endure it every day.

I am 29 years old (woman).

I went to the doctor first in February when he tested my blood. The result came back normal (he said he tested for infections). After that I went again and he gave me an X-ray in my abdominal area..well that one came back normal too.

Now, last week (30th of May) he said he would send me through the post a form or something like that.. to go with it and have an ultrasound. I waited now a week and I cant wait to receive it already as I want to see if they will see something at the Echo scan.

I would have wanted the ultrasound taken first if you ask me..as I suspect it might be something like a kidney stone..or something like that..?

I only have this pain in my back, somewhere under my ribs (and on the right side), only when I stand.

I feel better when sitting down or lying. I am thankful for that at least..I suppose it could be worse ..so I get some break from this.

The doctor as I see him is clueless and he said that if we don't find anything after all these tests..he might just blame it on a muscle that was pulled or something..

I mean..this is ridiculous as basically it would be just a guess..even leaving it like that..

what if in time it affects me more with some other consequences?

I am very concerned already and tired with this pain.

Please I would like to know your opinions about this.

I must add that I have no other symptoms..no swellings or other problems. Just this pain every day and is constant and annoying and I just want to know what it is already to treat it and get over with my life.

The same pain i had felt for a long time, I went to the doctor and they told me I had pulled the muscle on my lower rib, basically I cured it by just resting it and not doing much excercise for a while.

    Hi,

If you are having gallbladder disease symptoms, but all the bloodwork, ultrasounds, xrays are coming back normal request to get a HIDA Scan.  The results of my test are my gallbladder is functioning at 14% and the cause for all my symptoms.  I constantly feel full, tenderness and pain under my right rib, and when I eat I get headaches, lightheaded and the pain/fullness is worse and my blood pressure drops.  I see a surgeon later today.  Doctors only seem to respond to gallbladders if you have an attach from gallstones, but don't think to look for gallbladder disease/dysfunction.  I have been told that you can't fix a gallbladder once it is damaged to this point.  My history, I am 46 years old and about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.  I went through chemo and was put on a lot of drugs during the chemo process.  Due to the location and type of cancer I did not get radiation.  My GI believes that all that treatment damaged my gallbladder.  The chemo has already damaged my heart.  I just wonder what else it has damaged that I don't know about.  Don't give in to a doctor that gives up!  Find a new doctor and be persistent.  It is your body and no one knows it better than you!

It sounds like you could possibly have an std. You might want to visit your gynecologist.  My daughter had the same thing for quite some time and that is what it turned out to be.  Some stds can make you sterile so dont wait to long.

    Hello

I'm not sure if this response is valid in this category. But, I have had constant

back pain and tried to get a diagnosis. Turns out I had a fractured rib T-10

    in my back.

I also have deteriorated disks in my thoracic and cervical spine.

I have been to numerous DR's and havent had a complete diagnosis.

One physical therapist said I may have a damaged Facet, connects ribs to spine.

anyway. I have constant pain in my right side posterior of my back.

I am up at this very moment pondering about going to the Dr. I have have this reoccuring right side pain for 3 years. Its on the right seamline, towards the back and under the ribs. I cant put my finger on it but i know the area. I have had all the tests possible and exploritory surgeries previously mentioned. They took out my gallbladder for good measure, yet the pain returns. If i lay still in one position, it does bother me. If i move about, it sends lightening up my side. Enough to make me catch my breath. Nothing seems to make it subside. Last year the pain was so intense that i went to the ER dry heaving. I just couldnt take it any longer. The oncall Dr. is a friend of ours, and he hooked me up to a IV pain reliever pump. He ran the usual tests my doctor had preformed and nothing. I begged him to run any and all scans, xrays, blood, and urine. I have really good insurance and i wanted an answer. I was in the ER for hours. The pain remained constant even when i topped out on the pain med from the IV. My friend had no answers. He said that what i was experiencing was mental not physical. Had it been, the meds would have relieved it, and i was on some good stuff. He said it was all in my head likely caused by stress and anxiety. Before this pain surfaced 3 years ago, i was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, depression and panic attacks.  Thats why im sitting here wondering if i should go to the office dr. I cant sleep. I have to take short breaths. This pain, i can feel coming on. It started 2 days ago and grew. It unexplainable and unresolved. I have tried several different eating patterns and had allergy tests done and nothing. UGH

I'm having pain down the right side of my body in what seems like the whole of the ascending colon. It's hard to explain, there's also a pulse like pain that starts around my hip bone or the end of the ascending colon that travels up the ascending colon. I'm very uncomfortable after a meal and I can feel a little relief  after I been to the toilet.

I've had the pain for some time, and have been for an ultra scan and was told I had a small kidney stone and there where  signs of a non alcoholic fatty liver, but I feel that this pain is coming from my ascending colon which as not been picked up by the scan.

I first noticed it some time ago after I had, say a three course meal, but now the feeling is there all the time.

What I don't want to happen is some to say to me "if we'd have caught it sooner" a year from now.

Any ideas or course of action I should request from my Doctor.

    Thanks in advance.

Hiya! I'm the same. It started 9 years ago after having my son ( quick delivery ) but also had an 11lb 3oz daughter naturally previously. Anyhow, pain was on and off, had liver, gallbladder, kidneys scanned all normal. Was told it was muscular. Recently its been constant for about 4 months now. Worried myself silly by googling but I have no other symptoms. Been back to the Dr, scan again on kidneys bladder, all blood tests came back normal. So was referred to see a consultant physiotherapist who told me it was probably muscular especially as I suffer from lower back problems too. Waiting to see a physiotherapist. Bit of background, I'm a 40 year old female and work in a heavy lifting, bending, stretching job on my feet for up to 8 hours at a time. I get pain whilst working or standing still for longs periods I.e ironing. It goes when lying down and in certain sitting positions. Don't wake up in pain. No other symptoms.

Oh and p.s I have moderate depression, GAD and health anxiety. Consultant physiotherapist thinks I'm making pain worse by worrying!

My mother had the very same symptoms, testing through the roof!!! All normal, finally a different just regular doctor told her it was her gallbladder and to eliminate all animal fats, she did, was basically a vegan, and cured her own gallbladder, I guess if you have insurance they'd pay to hv it remived, she didn't however, so had to heal herself the natural way.....just an idea for symptoms similar to yours, good luck! !!!

It sounds like an ulcer. That's what I have and I have similar symptoms. Acid can cause a lot of the problem.

I also have had these pains which I have had for years. The only relief I ever got was from acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. I suggest you seek this out.
