Posted , 50 users are following.

My daughter 12 myself and ex husband best friend and sister have all had continuous cold/flu symptoms since Sept 2014. We all been prescribed antibiotics antihistermenes inhalers etc by our own seperate GPs but we all have a continuous cough very bad mucus runny noses electric shock feelings and dizziness and aching joints. Nothing helps. Weve also discovered that our friends and other people we know have this. We are diversely spread across the UK Cardiff Bristol Cheltenham Devon Yorkshire etc. Has anyone else had these flulike symptoms for such a long time?

Mel, I've been the same for over 8 months now (August 2016) and wondered if you've ever found out what's caused this problem?  I'd love to know!! xx

I have had so similar illness like so many describe here. Me and my daughter. It started after a holyday in Greece July 2015. One day after I got home I came down with flu/cold like symptoms. And a severe nonstop dry cough. I couldnt sleep at night because of the cough. I got coughmedicin, very strong, but it would only help for ten minutes. After three weeks cough subsided, but I was left with complete swollen nasal mucoses, red and inflamed, lightly bleeding when touched - and I thought I had sinusitus as my nose was completely blocked. I also had nausia, complete anorexia and two days of watery diarrhea. After that just a dull discomfert in my stomach, but the anorexia never stoped. I had to forcefeed my self. All the time the upperairways symptoms stayed. My eyes swoll up, I had pain around my eyes, thick clear mucous developed. Sinuspain, i could not look at light for a coupple of months. I slept and slept and slept.

Muscleweakness developed after some months, and soon after pain in hands, legs feet. The "cold" never ended and developed to involve chestpain and mucosa from chest as well. At that point I got breathless just moving from bed to toalett.

All the time lowgrade fever coming and going 24/7.

My daughter 15, had same symptoms, started with cold that never went away, congested nose with swollen eyes/ face. Fever coming and going throughout the days. Severe stomach pain, anorexia. And around Christmas she collapsed and was bedridden with severe fatigue.

No doctor understood. I changed three doctors, also private doctors, and internal medisiner for my daughter. All tests for flues and commen upper airway bacteria came back negative.

Still we had so much pain and upper airwaysymptoms and extreme fatigue. Coupled with severe anorexia. And dull to fullblown stomach pain.

After 12 months I asked for a bacteria test from stomach - since the anorexia and weightloss for me and my daughter. We had both ecoli epec.

Doctors knew nothing of this either. Even thouhg now understanding we had a severe infection, they suddenly were appologetic as to not have figured this out sooner.

I have since found out, going to spesialised medical litterature - that upper airwaysymptoms is a common feature in ecoli epec, some doctors studying it also describes a possible oral route transmission. Ecoli epec has many straines, and some causes inflamed bowel without profuse diarrhea, more a discomfort thing- and anorexia/ fatigue/ malaise - coupled with airwaysymptoms.

Most doctors do not know of this it seems.

We got a lesson for life. We got shortterm antibiotic - 7 days of cipro. Got SO much better. But now in a downword spiral again - with cold symptoms sinus pain and fatigue/anorexia the worst.

Garlic helps.. Loads and loads of raw garlic and honey. (Said to have a synergenic effect). My lesson - most doctors do not know enteropathogenic ecoli can give sinus/cold symptoms as a big/ maine feature. So they dont make the connection. Even when we had anorexia and weightloss. And warning! They do not look for enteropathogenic ecoli in upper airwayculture. Specific pcr-culturing for that bacteria is needed, as some straines of it wont grow well on agar plates on media used for airways.

Big warning and so much suffering.

Garlic - as all our symptoms/ airways and anorexia is way better with it. I hope we will see the end of it soon.

Yes, we, as some others here, have had months of profuse sweating/chills - and pregnancy was asked by some doctors, because of nausia - (to me, not my daughter. ) almost funny, if we hadn't been so ill.

One other person, close to us got the same thing... (Not with us on holiday) With cold symptoms and breathlessness/tiredness for months up untill this day as main symptoms. This person also got 7 days of cipro. Still cold symptoms after medication. Got better, but now worse again.

I reliable this post is very old, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could respond. I desperately need to know what the electric shock feelings you were getting were like? I've had a cold come back for 3 weeks now and I feel awful every week and started getting a sensation like I'm getting the chills down my arms or legs and then it turns into a prickly electric shock feel as it quickly exits my hands or feet. When I described to the doctor they said it's a neck injury and said t didn't correlate to anything else. But what you described as happening to you is exactly how I feel. Please tell me if your symptoms were the same?

Hi everyone, I'm Mark. I’m currently working here in Saudi Arabia as a Technical Engineer. For 2-3 months i have this transparent flu which makes me sneeze especially in the morning. It doesn’t really bother me. I thought maybe it was because of my air condition. Then last 2 weeks ago, i woke up with a pretty bad feeling. Body ache, my nose is totally blocked, ITCHY ears and throat, and my tonsils are giving off a sign that they will soon to be kissing each other. So I went to the doctor and he told me that the same is happening everywhere but he was totally shocked when I told him that im having this flu like symptom for months now. He did the usual BP, breathing, temp check then he gave me a “cough suppressant”, antibiotics, antihistamine and this anti-nausea/flu symptoms.

The first time I took the cough suppressant syrup I knew that its spells trouble. It has this anesthesia like effect and it made my throat felt really really DRY! It did not prevent me fron coughing and even made it worst so I immediately stopped taking it. I continually took the other meds and felt good after a week… then comfort for 3-5 days.... then last 2 days ago this flu symptoms started to arise again! Then yesterday I kept on sneezing… and today when I woke up… BOOM! Body ache, worst headache I ever had, cough which also triggers the aching pain in my head, dry itchy throat and ears, transparent flu (Yellow-greenish in the morning), and my tonsils are on it again!

Im on my way to ask my GP again and this time im not gonna leave unless my blood is tested and the doctor have an answer with medicine that will surely help me… I know im asking too much, but im definitely desperate. I miss feeling better!

I also tried ginger tea, honey and lemon, etc etc but they only help for a few minutes. I will drown myself with fresh garlic and garlic meals later. I also plan on getting fresh carrots, fruits and taking at least 10-15min of sunlight daily for vitamin D.

I will update you guys in any improvement occurs… I know your pain and I wish we will all get better.

    Hi

I read your post with interest as I have had the same since July. I developed a bad cold which led to a chest infection, it didn't shift so I had 2 courses of antibiotics.. I had about a week of ok health and then developed what seemed like a really bad allergy. I woke every morning with a severe runny nose ( nasal drip? ) and repeated episodes of sneezing.. this lasted pretty much all day. This developed into another severe cold with terrible phlegm. I have had this for several weeks. I continue to cough up the phlegm and have to blow it down from my nose instantly. I can literally keep blowing it into the hankie..I also have a really bad sounding raspy cough. I went to see my GP last week and he said it shouldn't be lasting this length of time but gave me strong antibiotics and a string antihistamine and nose spray. He said if it doesn't subside he will have to refer me to ENT and for Allergy tests. I am half way through the courses and it's made no difference. I am so fed up.

I live in Virginia USA and I've had symptoms that are similar.  I just feel exhausted, achy, headache, miserable 99.9% of the time, and have for over a decade.  I do have a very damaged neck from car accident many years ago.  Inflammatory condition of some kind.  I'm now in pain management and have been told there isn't anything tha can be done. Living on the coast, I have had several homes with mold issues.  I believe this is part of the problem, but there isn't much that can be done.  The only consolation is to know we are not alone, as this does help emotionally ...at least a little.

im so sorry you are suffering.  You're post helped me to feel not so alone in this.  I don't think the medical community is advanced enough to know what the real cause is.

I am sorry to hear of your prolonged illness but also took comfort to read that I am not alone. I too developed a mix of cold/flu symptoms leading to possible chest and sinus infections since Aug this year (16) I've literally lived at my GP's since had a series of blood tests which apparently are normal. I have also had a chest X-ray and again normal except for hyper sensitive airways ? I've had 3 courses of antibiotics but nothing clears the persistent cough and mucus. I still get intermittent sore throats and my head feels full as if I've been swimming underwater... my body aches and I feel fatigued most of the time. I am at my wits end as I just don't see a light st the end of this tunnel. I just want to be fit again. I take every vitamin and probiotic under the sun and eat very healthily in order to build up my immunity. If anyone reading this has had similar and has recovered, I would very much like to hear from you. Thank you.

Is it sure that you have a bacterial infection? Antibiotics do not work for viruses. Only for bacterial infections. As for me I have a second horrendous cold in six weeks. The last one tailed off into a persistent cough that responded only to Tylenol w codeine. I felt I was just getting over that or at least seeing light at end of tunnel. For recreation I've always been an avid swimmer and weight lifter and so look quite fit for my age - I'm "older" - but it's been two months since I could get to the pool. Yesterday this absolutely horrific cold struck. It does not respond to antihistamines. I don't dare take Tylenol/ codeine for the wracking cough that has come with this new illness since taking double doses of acetaminophen can damage the liver. I'm really almost beside myself. This recurrence of illness is very new for me. Never before have I experienced it. Always before, well, badcold, butit would go away and I wouldn't get another for a year. Are we seeing new mutant viruses now? - anyway, my doctor always asks if the sputum I cough up is yellow or brow or green. I think that does indicate bacterial infection.

I just saw this. It is December 1rst 2016 and my 2 year old and myself have been battling this same thing since end of august. They said cold, then 3 different rounds of antibiotics for me in these past months, she has done one round and it gets better while we are on the antibiotics? Then returns with a vengeance 3-4 days later. Cough achy body sore thrust coughing up green yellow grey nasty stuff for me she is coughing gagging even doesn't want to eat keeps saying paid and pointing to her mouth which is her throat and I've googled everything possible and I just don't know anymore. My neighbour has the same thing and apparently was just diagnosed with some super bug which is resistant to standard antibiotics. I'm at my wits end.

I have come to realize that the doctors seem to be clueless. I'm attempting a all natural route starting this morning interestingly enough lol immune booster steeped tea which is 100% really fruits herbs etc? As well as probiotics and will binge on as much garlic and onions this week as I can stand Haha which is a lot 😂 I will keep you updated here on how this works. it's my 2 year old I'm really worried about sad it seems to be non stop for her. And i really do not enjoy dragging her to the doctors often at all. they will send her for a chest X-ray next time. sad the idea of then strapping my child down is not something I can watch. I would lose it. Blessings to you as well smile

😢 mine doesn't either 😭 I'll wait until the weekend and see. My neighbour caught some super bug which is resistant to most forms of antibiotics so I'll be mentioning that next time I see my doctor. Keep me updated please xox

It took my girl good 3 weeks. She is fine now. No antibiotics! !!

      Blessings

So glad she is better. Nothing worse than seeing your child suffer. Hopefully she'll stay well now.

If you're still coughing up dark phlegm it's a sign of a bacterial infection. So possiblhy you need another round of antibiotics. It's extremely importnt to use these for their entire course. Otherwise, bacteria resistance will be strengthened in the drug.

No cough has turned dry and irritating. No phlegm. Just feel dreadful again. Tried to drive today but it made me faint, sick and dizzy. My right ear feels a bit blocked, I feel very floppy and weak. Not sure how to get to Drs in the morning!
