Continuous genital herpes outbreaks dispite surpressive therapy

I contracted genital herpes from an assault 7 years ago. I've always battled with the the occasional mild outbreak, usually around my period time. However, about two years agoI had a huge outbreak, bigger than my first. Since then Ive taken daily alciclovir, as perscribed by my doctors. However, the outbreaks have gotten more frequent. Around October time, I started getting them every two weeks, but since around Christmas, i have lesion, then that heals, then another appears, then that heals etc etc. I'm really at my wits end. Can anyone offer advice?

i went through a similar increase in frequency and severity of my outbreaks during a time of excess stress. I quit eating sugar and am eating really healthy, and the outbreaks have stopped for over 2 1/2 months. We'll see how it goes. Good luck with yours!

UPDATE: I realize this thread is quite old, but recently I have had some success with suppressing my HSV2 outbreaks after many many months of back-to-back OBs.
SUMMARY: To save you from reading the entire post with my back story, I've found a lot of success with using Oil of Oregano. I have been using 21mg, 70% Carvacrol both topically (2 x a day) on my sores at the base of my spine and orally (5 drops morning and night with water). In addition, I also changed my L-Lysine to 1000mg tables which I take 2000 to 3000mg per day. I also take a multi-vitamin and some extra E and C, but that's it. I was working on adjusting my diet in all sort of non-sustainable (to me) ways, but I have since stopped that. I do exercise almost daily and try to sleep enough, but the sleep is not consistent.
DISCLAIMER First, I realize that what I'm stating here is completely unscientific. I can't prove that anything I'm doing is actually making a difference or if it's just dumb luck. I'll be the first to admit it. Also, although I've made a cursory check to see if I'm killing myself with toxins using any of these products, I don't know if I'm doing more harm than good. I just know that it seems to finally be better after almost a year of constant outbreaks. And I don't work for anyone who has anything to do with any of these products. :-)
BACKSTORY: Anyway, I contacted GH about 32 years ago. I didn't even get diagnosed until about 17 years later as my outbreaks were so minor and infrequent. By then, I had been married for over a decade to someone who has to this day never had a symptom. My OBs were about once a year and after a brief headache, I would get a sore which lasted maybe a week. Definitely manageable.
But as I approached menopause about 4 years ago, I started having monthly outbreaks. Very annoying, but again not a huge deal. Then, as my period stopped, I began having continuous outbreaks. Now -- it became a big deal and felt unmanageable.
So the first thing I figured was it was hormone related. I started hormone replacement therapy (HRT) about 4 months ago. The hot flashes went away, and I was sleeping better, but the HSV2 outbreaks seemed to get even worse. I was really at my wits end. My experiences with supressive meds were not successful, so I was hesitant to try them again.
To make a long story only a little longer -- about two weeks ago I found a thread where the poster said she had success with Oil of Oregano. I was at the point where I was trying just about anything that didn't seem unreasonable. So I went out and got some, and I'm feeling better after only about 2 weeks. I am currently outbreak free for the first time in maybe a year.
It's a big enough deal to me that I wanted to share this story for anyone interested. Again, it just might be luck.
If you end up trying this, I wish you good luck. This virus affects many of of us in many different ways, and I hope we are each able to find something that keeps it in check.

Hi there! Do you have children? I just recently had a baby and have been having continuous outbreaks every since delivering, I was symtom free for 3 years no signs of anything and nothing through my pregnancy. Even stopping birth control etc. I thought maybe I was misdiagnosed cause my family doctor at the time didn't think it was but treated me just in case. Now I'm having this crazy vibrations and groin, hip and buttock pain. No lesions though. Isn't this strange? I can't seem to find anyone with post prenangcy outbreaks but I guess coincides with the whole hormone thing. Debating now whether I should go back on the pill or not . Feeling so discouraged! The vibrations are so annoying! Lucky no bumps yet! Any thoughts?

This is what works for me. I went to the local vitamin Shop and bought an Amino Acid called Lysine. When I feel a tingle or start itching and know a breakout is coming, I start taking three lysine tablets (1500mg) twice a day. I continue for about 6 or seven days or until I feel that the attack is completely over, and then I stop. I start up again when I feel an attack coming on. I have been doing this for the past year and a half with no side effects and no interactions with other meds and supplements. I still get a genital bump now and then but the attacks are less frequent and within a day or so the itching has subsided and the bump vanishes. Within three days I feel like my old self again. I'm hesitant to take prescribed medications with side effects that affect my liver. Lysine is a supplement. Lysine is not a cure but makes me feel normal most of the time. It is pretty cheap too. I pay about 15.00 a bottle and that usually lasts me several months for 180 tablets. I hate taking pills, otherwise I'd take Lysine constantly but my breakouts seem far and few between. I try to lead as normal a life as possible but it's hard watching your diet and trying to keep stress to a minimum. Lysine is not a cure but it keeps the herpes in check and allows me to get on with living as normal a life as possible. I don't need herpes tapping me on the shoulder every couple of weeks saying remember me. It keeps my breakouts to a minimum and helps speed the recovery process. I hope this helps.

Is there any way that when you get diagnosed, it stays completely anonymous?? I heard they keep you on some file they have to report to the CDDC or someone like that..... Also it is so unfortunate that herpes is non curable yet chlamydya is!?!? So unfair!!!

Yes your dr has to keep your confidence, only you and your dr need to know and those you choose to tell, yes it is unfair but it doesn't kill you just your self worth. ..... and upon research looks like it could cause another nerve issues later down the track. Lots of people with CF fibro etc seem to be suffers too i think its worth the medical researches looking i to a link between the 2

I am guessing that you drive a truck for a living. Long periods of sitting can cause outbreaks. In addition to the great advice offered here, you might want to consider taking more frequent breaks and using topical antiviral Creams as a suppressant. ,

Maybe give bht and lysine a try. Both are very inexpensive with no known side effects. Also avoid citrus fruits. Orange juice was a big culprit for me.
Most of us do not know who gave us "the gift", since dormancy is common In youth. Then it crops up later in life.
