Hi can anyone help please I have been diagnosed with Diverticular Disease but I get a lot of pain in my right side' also at the bottom of my tummy it feels like I have pebbles rolling around. I have also had a gastric bypass 5 years ago so eating bran is something I cant do and to be honest don't need as I go too much neutral as soon as I eat I am in the loo and I am so scared when I go out because I know if I get a little anxious I need the loo and I wont eat out because of the same reason. It feels my life revolves around the loo day and night and I am getting so drained and tried by it all. Can anybody help please my doc don't seem to know what to do neutral Thanks for reading x

    Hi Kaz & Joan,

Iam 78 on Friday married to Stan, 76. I was told I had IBS years ago and thought that is what I had until about 5-6 years ago when I was diagnosed with Diverticular Disease throughout the bowel. I have three grown up children, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Up until two years ago I was doing a lot of cycling but bowel problems getting worse and not feeling well at times have made me stop that because of worrying about finding a toilet and preferring own toilet at home.

I have printed off the Fodmap food list and straight away I can see that I should not have eaten the baked apple and custard made with cows milk that is now causing my stomach to be bloated. I also had breaded chicken with fried potatoes and peas and of course the wheat in the breaded part and the peas are also on the bad food list.

It doesn't mention spelt bread but somewhere else I saw that spelt bread is O.K. It does make good soda bread as I have made some before and have some in my food cupboard. I usually make it with buttermilk though and am not sure if that is O.K.

I will also say goodnight now as I see that it is getting late and I usually unwind with a short read before I go to bed. I will have a good look at the food list tomorrow. thanks for that advice Kaz

    Hi Joan

With your morning episode you need some salt hydration I have dyralite cartons sip throughout day as the d episode will always dehydrate you are buy them from tescos and they store for months so always handy to have

  • Posted

thanks kaz I will put them on my list im hopeing to try and get up Tesco today see how my tum is but if I can get up there fast I will be ok .

Tthey also do in sachet form but prefer cartons as they come with straw and can sip throat day found sachet a bit tedious as you have to mix with water and hate having the glass about all day

Take bottle water with you whilst you shop as always drink whilst I'm shopping as tummy hates movement and it gives it something to do

Any thing else you need to know what to buy ect I'm here for you always

Girls forgot to day on fodmap goodies we can eat are fruit and veg with seeds do not buy there no good for diverticulitis as pips get stuck in bowel causing oroblems

Strawberries tomatoes grapes are no go but blueberries are good antioxidants and are ok but no cream or custard just on their own

On the Fodmap diet under vegetables that can be eaten are tomatoes and in brackets it says avoid cherry tomatoes. That puzzles me.

Mind you this food list doesn't mention Diverticular disease just IBS, Colitis and Crohns disease.

I very rarely suffer from diarrhea nowadays unless I overdo it with fibre and fruit juice etc.

I haven't noticed getting pain from eating tomatoes and did read somewhere that a lot of sufferers can eat tomatoes.

I have been O.K. today, just really tired after lunch but as I had egg on toast I do wonder if it is the bread, or the egg.

Also we have walked the dog for an hour this morning and done various other things.

Does the gluten free bread contain fibre? As I do need to keep things moving.

I can't see eggs on this food list.

Hi ya diverticulitis day away from pips and seeds the reason cherry tomato and normal are different is the seeds are bunched small in cheery well as normal are big and less clustered which means more chance of trapping gluten free bread contains fibre more expensive and smaller loaves so tend to use bread as sandwiches or with soups etc then eat gluten free crackers

Mrs crumbles does a bread mix gluten free which I make my own rolls as these are very expensive

As for eggs all ok except fried as bad on gut be careful if boil only have two per week as there binding can cause constipation

Yes your right fodmap is more for ibs but all lusted foods help diverticulitis as ease pressure on the gut

    Hope that helps
