Dizziness caused by acid reflux

I was pleased to find this site as 4 months ago I was gong to the gym most days of the week. I am 61 years old but consider myself to be relatively fit. In may of this year I developed a spit and continually wanted to clear my throat .

I have had an MRI scan, Cat scan andchest/lung Xrays, all of which were clear. I have experienced lots of the symtoms contributore to the site talk about. Back pain, shoulder pain, breathlessness, hoarsness ,buzzing in my head tiredness and most scary of all lightheadedness which makes me feel as if I'm going to faint. I have seen two ENT consultants the latter of whom said that a virus was causing too much acid being produced in my stomach and has prescribed two 20mg doses of Opemrazole daily. I have taken great comfort form the discussions on this site but I am particularly interested if anyone has experienced the lightheadedness/ dizziness and ringing in the head.

    Hi Weebee,

How you found your treatment solution? I am having that too and still looking for a better solution. If you have a medical solution, please advice me. Thank you.

Well I got test results back for celiac and food allergies, they were both normal, nothing to find there. So back to square one. Have no idea what could be causing all this. The only thing I can think of doing is trying a super clean healthy diet for a while and see if that helps. Maybe try taking probiotics and digestive enzymes also. I don't know what else to do. I've had almost every blood test done known to man and they can't find anything wrong. So if there's nothing wrong, why do I feel so bad?? Anyway. I was thinking maybe some of this could be side effects of the omeprazole so maybe with eating right I can slowly get off the medicine. Amd well eventually see how it goes I guess. Good luck to everyone

I share your pain (and frustration!) I too recently went for another round of blood work and tests for various food allergies, all of which turned up normal (it's so odd that i actually wish for bad news!)

I've also been trying the homeopathic route too - enzymes with every meal, colostrum powder twice a day, etc. Might be helping but hard to say since still have chest ache and tight throat -both of which come on at random times. My doctor now seems to think it's related to my nervous system and inflammation - going to try acupuncture next along with various vitamin and hormone therapy.

I've also been thinking about the super clean diet as well, although I hate the idea of making myself even more miserable, if in fact, I don't have any food allergies or insensitivies. That's my biggest problem - I eat like a monk for a few weeks, feel a bit better but not great, and then decide I might as well enjoy my food and the occasional drink. Neverending cycle.

The one thing I can share is that going off of the omeprazole helped me a lot. I was taking it for 10 years and while it worked great for a while, it eventually got to a point where it didn't make a difference at all. It took me a while to wean off of it, and then I tried an H2 blocker for another 6 months. When I finally got off of that, my stomach felt much better (less gas and bloating). Of course, chest and throat pain still persist.

Anyways, good luck with your plan! Would be curious to hear if you get relief.

Got my initial bloods back and almost no iron there ! This explains the dizziness and lightheadedness. On iron supplements, Nexium (PPI) which I think has finally kicked in and a cocktail of things from my GP who also specialises in alternative meds which is brilliant. Off work and rest is helping. Endoscopy and colonoscopy next - looks very much like stomach ulcers - they will also check for caeliac but I am guessing ulcers. Good luck.

How's everything going now? It has been a while since I've been on here so was just curious on how things are going for you? I'm pretty much the same LOL I have my good weeks and my bad weeks though. I don't know if you read my previous statements above butt I'm starting a very strict new diet and exercise plan to see if this helps anything cuz I haven't really done that yet cuz I like my food too much haha. But it's been a week now and I've been eating very very strictly and I have cut back 10 milligrams a day on omeprazole so I will get back to you on how things work out smile

I am having all those symptoms for the last 6 months. All tests came out fine. Doctor has no clue what is causing this. Will start taking some multivitamins containing B12 and thinking to change the toothpaste to some natural one and see if it helps. Will let you all know if that helps. Thanks!

I am slightly over half your age and half slight dizziness now and again but worse is the ringing in the ears. Tinnitus. Sometimes it gets annoying, usually it is okay. Just try to relax. I only experience both of them at night, the tinnitus especially when it's night time and quiet.

Get a full iron and ferritin work up. My iron went really low and so did ferritin. Optiferin is a great supplement for the ferritin levels.

Weebee I have suffered for about 10 years from the same symptoms as you. I have had several colonoscopy's & endoscopies and must point out that at the stage I started suffering I was eating a very healthy diet. I have also had one doctor suggest that I was eating too healthy.  I have been diagnosed with diverticulitus & Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I found that at times it has been overwhelming.  I have tried all the medications but found that these medications just dried me out. I have read countless articles & books on the subject of acid reflux & acidity within the body. I have found that through diet & exercise I have been able to eliminate a great deal of discomfort. I cannot eat onion, grain breads, muesli bars, beer peanuts or anything that is spicy ( however occasionally hot spicy), I can't have any preservatives & I can't drink red wine or anything that is vinegear based like canned beetroot. I can drink beer. All tests I have had don't suggest that I have any allergies, however I have found that though eliminating all of these things from my diet it has helped me lead a fairly normal life. I try not to have too much coffee as this also creates acid. Your doctor has suggested that you have anxiety, while this may be correct you will find that anxiety will get the stomach acids churning ( as I've experienced also) which only worsen the symptoms already being experienced. I would also suggest that you try & not over eat & try to eat smaller meals more regularly. I hope this helps somewhat

Hello, I'm so glad I found your post. I'm 32 yo. , I've been having digestive problems for about 2 yrs. , but about 2 weeks ago it got really bad for me, I've been having pain by my left shoulder and it goes up to my neck sometimes, sore throat , I'm having to clear my throat a lot, a lot of dizziness. I've been to ER 2 times I the past 2 weeks, they did blood work and X-rays and everything was fine. I'm going to have an ultrasound of abdomen tomorrow and have a ENT appt. in 2 weeks. I've been googling my symptoms and all I see is bad answers , I'm so glad I seen this post, I feel a little relieved 😊

Hi claudyag - same pain in left shoulder and going up in to throat and sometimes jaw. Ended up in ER last week - bloods all clear, chest xray all clear. BUT iron levels are almost non-existant - this now explains the dizziness and lightheadeness. Doc has me off work for now and complete rest. Waiting to have and endoscopy and colonoscopy - looking very much like stomach ulcers - something is draining my iron levels this low and we need to find out what. But docs already have me on a PPI (Nexium) and I think that is kicking in - takes a few weeks. And very strict diet to stop anything upsetting the tummy. The pain in shoulders is apparently very common with all of this because the nerves at the top of the diaphragm radiates the pain up to the shoulders and collar bone and throat - hence we all feel like we are having heart attacks !! Not looking forward to these tests though, but has to be done. Also on magnesium morning and night which really helps that throat blocked feeling - eases the spasm a lot - can event ake 1 capsule when it is actually happening and it is very quick to kick in.
