Hi. Anyone suffer from ectopics? Mine started 3 yrs ago when i was pregnant and are getting worse. Had ecgs...48 hr ecg ( which of course only showed a couple) echo and ct angiogram which im waiting the results for but wanted to know how many is normal? For the last 5 days have been really bad and tonight in the space of an hour as i counted them i had 16..just so typical that when i had my 48 hr ecg a few weeks back i was having a good few days so of course the cardiologist said all looked normal. Just wondered if people suffered with these and what the outcome has been? Its really getting to me and worrying me now. THANKS.

Hi. new to the forum and like most here i suffer from ectopic beats. current bout is going on about 4 months now. I've been doing some searching on remedies and have seen a lot of positive info on Hawthorn berries for palpitations and arrhythmias. just Curious if anyone here has tried them and if so did they help?

When someone suffers from a medical condition, its nice know that there is help out there for someone looking for that kind of help. Just keep fit, and work on your general health. Heart rates can improve for the good of the whole body.

Hi
I have been having constant skipped beats for a few weeks now (started 12 years ago, come on sporadically, lasting any length from a few minutes to weeks). When I say it is constant, I mean literally! Every 5 'beat' is missed - there's a pause, then pulse beats again, then a few beats later, another pause. This is continuous - not just every now and again or a few times a minute.
I took my self to A&E two days ago. They caught skipped beats on the ECG (was told they are in fact extra beats?)...but the specialist wasn't concerned! I don't think he understood when I said they are constant!
I don't understand it! If it were a car misfiring, we wouldn't drive it, so how is a heart misbehaving okay?
I have bought a pad that captures readings and will be returning to my Dr once I have a bank of them.
I do not suffer from anxiety so can not put it down to that.
They are happening as I type and what I'm worried about is if it is arterial fibrillations and they go undiagnosed! (Typically, heart monitors have missed them!). Blood pressure/pulse is always normal (apart from the 'skipped' beats that is)
I'm at a loss!

I have for well over 20 years. It honestly drives me insane. The more I Dwell the worse it is. Mines triggered more by certain medications such as Sertraline, cold meds, even caffeine. It's often depressing. Good to see this forum here.

Hi All,
New to this site but not to ectopics. So much valuable information in this thread. I will say, the common denominator really does seem to be stress and anxiety. I feel like that should tell us something. Sure, there are things that make it better (exercise, relaxation techniques, certain foods) and other things that make it worse (alcohol, certain foods, nicotine, not enough sleep), but I think all of those things would be okay if we weren't on the anxious side of things. I know mine are way worse when I'm anxious or have had prolonged anxiety. And yes, they still freak me out. I think accepting what they are and what they're not is a huge part of winning the battle.
And for those of you women who have mentioned PMS or post childbirth experiences, it kinda makes sense too because a lot of the same hormones are manufactured when we're anxious.
I wish i had an answer but this is what I've gathered from reading this thread a couple of times through. I'm trying to approach it more logically rather than emotionally, which is what I tend to do.
I can't stress how much this thread has helped, though. Truly. Thank you.

Hi Tony, how old are you if you dont mind me asking??
ive suffered from these on and off since i was 18 i remember feeling my first one in my neck in a taxi on my way to work but i could go months without one for a few years , then they got worse & somewhat painful when i was on antidepressants so got off of these.
i was mostly free of them for a few years even my pregnancy i dont recall having them at all.
however a year ago they became unbarable and have changed from a pause & thump type symptom to a fluttering/quivering sensation so scary! i have seen a cardio & multiple a&e visits to be told its fine. (although on one occasion i had an SVT which they put down to an electoltye imbalance) ive had a monitor and echo.
but its not fine really is it am just waiting for my heart to stop 24/7!! how do you deal with them?

Hi,
So sorry it took me this long to reply. I thought I was supposed to be notified via email if there was a reply to the thread. Oh well.
I'm 46 years old. I've battled anxiety since I was 14. How that anxiety has chosen to present itself has changed over the years, however. This ectopic heartbeat thing has come and gone in the last few years but this time around it's stuck around a lot longer. Admittedly, I am stressed and have been for some months now. A new job in January, a significant breakup in March, the usual Covid stresses, etc. They all contribute to my overall level of anxiety and worry. So I'm not exactly 'surprised' that I'm getting the ectopics. Some days are worse than others. If I'm busy with something or someone, I really don't notice them at all. If I'm just sitting around, watching TV or brooding, I feel them a lot more. I try not to freak out about them. Sometimes I do and and sometimes I don't. I do think I need to stop fighting them and just accept them. The fighting just seems to make them worse.
I doubt any of that helps but like I said in my previous post, I really do believe that stress and anxiety play a major role. Anxiety has always been my Achilles Heel. I wouldn't wish it in my worst enemy.

hi
Ive seen this thread has been going on for a while but just wanted to say how useful it has been to read.
last night I woke up with palpitations and ended up in ER and my ECG was fine but my heart was skipping a beat very regularly. I have had this for around 12 hours now and it 'flutters/stops' a couple of times a minute.
I feel like they are never going to go away. Does anyone get any respite? my heart rate is between 98-115 resting and that im presuming anxiety driven.
this whole episode is driving me mad, I am 39 so pretty sure peri meno isnt helping.
ive taken magnesium for a long time maybe i need to up it.
Anyway i feel like death is imminent and i told the dr who laughed and said heart is healthy but here I am still panicking.
This thread has made me see im not alone though. Thanks

awww im sorry to hear this and can relate to how you're feeling. please be reassured though that you've been checked out and they said your heart is fine.
anxiety will make them worse and they will ease eventually. have you tried meditation, herbal teas, cutting out caffeine, alcohol.?

Hi, I was having frequent ventricular ectopic beats (thousands per day) and found something that helped: a trigger point massage of the right pectoralis major muscle where it attaches on the lower ribs, about 2 inches to the right side of the bottom of the sternum, on the ribs.
It felt very tender producing a sharp pain when pushed but otherwise does not seem to give any pain.
It is a very small area so takes some time to locate - be patient. Use the fingertips and push in small circles until you've found it. It is very tender when pushed.
Once located keep circling over that tender spot - the trigger point - to help the muscle there heal itself. Work on it for about 30 seconds and repeat several times per day.
If this is successful then look for other trigger points in pectoralis major across the chest and use the same treatment for them.
Also think about what activities you do that may stress that part of the pec major muscle - anything where you're pushing forward and down like kneading dough on a bench top or doing push ups. These may contribute to creating the knots/trigger points in the muscle.
Be patient - it will take time to locate these points, especially if you've never practiced this self massage before.
Hopefully you can find something and hopefully it will help as it helped me. If not, then self massage of trigger points is still a valuable tool for managing anxiety and its physiological effects.

I have suffered from ectopic beats since i was in my early 20's i am now 51 years old ive had all tests done and told me its normal 😕 and still get them..sometimes i can go quite a while without them then other times i can be having them every few seconds...if i place my finger on my pulse i can actually feel the heart pause before its next beat..i also get ones that feel like my heart goes into a flutter for a few seconds..i have to push down like you are off to the loo to get rid of these lol.i also suffer from high blood pressure...anxiety(especially health anxiety)...i take a beta blocker..blood pressure tablet...statin and currently taking medicine for a hyperactive thyroid.
After extensive research over a number of years myself i do believe that at the core of my palpitations issues is the anxiety my thoughts produce which cause the pituitary gland to tell the thyroid gland to produce hormones which can cause palpitations...even a small amount of excess hormones from the thyroid gland can cause symptoms.
Doctors say that stress can cause disease and illness and your body to run out of sync and this is simply one of the outcomes of prolonged stress..anxiety..negative thought patterns.
Have you noticed most people that suffer with known palpitations also have anxiety issues...medication only masks what the body is doing...i am taking five tablets a day and still getting palpitations!!
Only things i have found that work is the usual basic stuff..eat well...sleep well..look after yourself and most importantly deal with all those worrysome anxiety negative thought patterns..try to think more positive over every situation..good luck 😃
