Endometrial Cancer Diagnosis

Posted , 10 users are following.

Well, I had my uterine biopsy this week, and my Dr. called with the news, I have endometrial cancer, types 2 and 3. I've been referred to an oncologist, who's supposed to contact me after the weekend. My Dr. told me that because I caught this early (I started to spot on April 14) that we're on top of it, and that the cure rate for this is about 99%.  But, I don't know what to think or feel.  I'm pretty scared. If anyone has some words of wisdom it would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

      Hi, D,

Good to hear from you!  At least the biopsy showed your tissue was normal!  I looked up norethisterone on line, and found out it is a synthetic progesterone, used to treat/stop excessive bleeding.  I think that's why doctors in the UK use the coil, too.  Perhaps if you take it, you will have some relief.  What do you think?

hi maybe i dont know i just didnt want to take anything like that i was hoping id get a srap of my lining and that would do it if it wasnt cancer

Hi, D, good to hear from you!  I think that the problem with getting your lining scraped might be that it will just grow back again.  So, the doctor might be trying to balance your hormones so it doesn't.

Still, hang in there, and let me know how you're doing!  I know that you're at the end of your rope! xxx

      Hi D

This is stacey i was diagnosed with uterine cancer that oncologist says probably has spread to my lymp node. I see a surgeon on sept 1st to have hysterectomy and lymph nodes removed once biopsied then he will decide on course of treatment. I wanted you to know im 47 and i have been bleeding almost a year. I saw an obgyn when this started he said i was starting the change of life. Well bleeding continued and really was heavy. In january i had a heart attack and had a stent put in. While i was in hospital bloodwork showed i was anemic. So doctor did a pelvic utrasound that came back my uterus was very enlarged the first obgyn did same ultrasound and never said anything about my uterus. They referred me to new obgyn he did a d & c and hysteroscopy with biopsy thats where uterine cancer was found they said stage 1.oncologist did cat scan and lymph nodes are very enlarged and loooks like cancer has spread which is where im at now. If you keep bleeding dont let it go get a second opinion if i had cancer probably wouldnt have spread. Doctors also think all the bleeding and anemia is probably what caused my heart attack. Please keep me informed on how you are doing and if you get another opinion. Goodluck

Hi, D, I wasn't aware of the strokes and blood clots that run in your family.  Sounds as if it's time for a second opinion to me.  You know your body; and need help to get to the bottom of what's going wrong!

Please let us know how you're doing!  xxx

hi i went to see a gyno other day as a few weeks ago i had a hysteroscopy and biopsy done and the gyno said it was ok. he just said i have to come back in three months and offerd me a coil for the bleeding but i said no then was given pills. i hope they havnt missed that its cancer, i did have a scan and it showed cysts in uterus lining and thickening but no lumps were seen or fibroids.

they better be looking into it all properly. i dont think they looked at my ovaries maybe they did but i wasnt told anything. i just know my bleeding is worse my pains are worse and im fed up and worried that if i do go back to my gp theyl just say well all tests were fine so it must be meno related so take the pills or suffer.if i found out that theyd sent me away then later on it was cancer id flipin sue them for sure.as iv complained since march.

i was hoping that others would come on here who have gone through meno and past it and say yer this happend to me but i was fine.you know they didnt have cancer and it was just a horrible time but it passed. i just dont understand realy if its meno how come im not suffering other meno probs. i do have more sweati g but not hot flashes just more sweating in groin. but i feel i need to wee more to, but thats it at moment.

i dont know what drs look for and see everyday in women but i think it must be more comon than i think as otherwise maybe he would have given me a scrap or something. they may see loads of women with same problem on a weekly basis just bleeding all the time i dont know.i mean its got to stop sooner or later i cant just bleed till meno is over could be years away.

and they cant just leave me to take a pill for ever.I'm unsure of taking it.

I want the bleeding to stop but the side effects put me off.

i mean why would i just bleed for six months none stop if it was just meno as everyone iv read up on on posts havnt gone as long as this none stop.well there is a few who had alot or gone a few months but not none stop with a 15 mm lining and then just told to hay just take this youl be ok come back i. three months. i didnt even have my bloods checked to see if i was anaemic.

maybe this is all normal for me and i have to live with it.😞

      Hi Lynda,

I see the surgeon on sept 1st to schedule htsrerectomy and lymph node removed. I went to a new oncologist Monday because the first one i saw i wasnt comfortable with i just didnt trust him. The new oncologist wants everything removed asap he said. He said by looking at cat scan he cant say for sure if cancer has spread to my lymph nodes but he said he wants them removed right away and will do biopsy then decide on course of treatmant. I feel so much better with new oncologist. I will let you know what surgeon says and please let me know how you are doing

      Hi D

It isnt normal to bleed that long the first gyno i saw said same thing menopause for me. It continued alot heavier so they did another ultrasound in hospital and it showed thickening of the uterus which is a sign of uteran cancer. If you are tired all the time and feel weak you could be anemic i was from bleeding for so long. I still am anemic. They did a D&C and biopsy and that didnt even slow down the bleeding. You know your body if i had questioned the first obgyn i might have stopped cancer from spreading.

I hope you find someone that can help maybe do a d&c and biopsy to see if cancer is involved. Im thinking about you good luck and let me know how you are doing

      Hi, Stacey,

I've been thinking about you lots and was wondering how you were doing!  I'm so glad you went to see a new oncologist!  I'm glad that you trust him! I'm praying for you that nothing has spread. I'm also glad that you aren't letting anything or anyone stand in the way of getting the care you need!

Please feel free to send me a private message if you have questions about the surgery, or anything else, ok?

I had a bit of a bleed very early yesterday morning (a little over 5 weeks post op) and had to go to the ER, just in case, as when I called none of the doctors or the practice nurse was in yet at my doctor's office.  When I saw the red blood in the toilet, I thought I was losing my mind! The ER doctor that examined me was very nice and said he could see where a stitch had dissolved or come out on the upper right side of my vagina. The doctor spoke with my MD; told me to take it very easy for the next few days. I have my final post op appointment on the 31st.

So, I'll still be thinking of you and praying for you!  Good luck, too!  Please stay in touch! xxx

hi iv had biopsys at the hospital done by a gynocologist i had it done at same time as a hysteroscopy and i had scan of womb so are you saying that it could still be cancer even thoe they said it wasnt? the only thing i didnt have was a scrap d&c i hope that i do t have cancer i mean im in uk are you in america

im thinking would they realy send me away if they werent sure i didnt have it, it wasnt a dr in a office who did the tests it was the hospital.

why would they send me away with pills if they were not sure.

i left thinking i was in the change even thoe my womb is thick. maybe they dont like to mess if they dont have to as my womb is bulky anyhow as iv had seven children and last were twins and had a c section, iv got cysts in my lining and maybe they dont want to do a dnc if they dont have to maybe itl cause a problem or make things worse i dont know. il just have to make an appointment with my gp and say im not satisfied with answers and want to see a diff gynaecologist if i can. we dont pay in uk and all gynaecologists in same hospital units together but i could ask still i dont know. i did feel that i was making a fuss over it when i went for results as he acted like it was nothing and i just needed coil to sort my homones. he better not be wrong

      Hi D

I didnt realize you had a biopsy already maybe everything is ok. Im in america and i had an ultasound by first gynecologist he said it was normal i was starting menopause early im 47. I continued bleeding for another almost 6 months and was in the hospital for something other than bleeding when my bloodwork came back i was anemic. They did another ultasound in hospital and told me my uterus was enlarged. They sent me to another gyno he did d&c and biopsy and thats when cancer was found. Now i had cat scan of my stomach pelvis and lungs and they are saying cancer has moved to my lymph nodes. I just wanted you to know my story in case you were doubting your diagnosis. I think we know our bodies if something isnt right. You may be fine and its menopause.

Goodluck with everything and let me know how things are going. I will be praying

      Hi Lynda

My surgery is scheduled for sept 13th. He is doing an abdominal total hysterectomy. He is removing a couple lymph nodes on each side and removing my appendix. He is doing my incision straight down instead of normal bikini cut he said because of the cancer. He said i may need a blood transfusion after the surgery because of my anemia. I should remain in hospital 3 to 4 days. I am very scared ive never had a big surgery like this but am looking forward to no more bleeding. I hope the biopsy on lymph nodes come back good but if not will deal with what comes next

Any advice you have on surgery what be wonderful

      Thanks stacey

My surgery is scheduled for September 19. The surgeon is using a robotic procedure that will be about 3 or 4 small incisions and the hospital stay will be 1 night unless any complications arise. The surgeon specializes in this type of surgery and will remove lymph nodes and have them tested. I was told that mine was caught very early but there is always chances it could spread and won't know til pathology tests the nodes. I too am scared but after talking to my doctor I feel hopeful. I pray yours goes well.

      Hi, Stacey,

I'm so glad to hear from you!  I'm also glad to learn that your surgery will be done soon!  After the surgery, then you will have some more answers, and can get the information you need to make the necessary decisions to help you get better.

My suggestion to you is that you look forward to the surgery as much as you can. In my case, there were little gifts, in the midst of all my fear. My husband's and family's support never waivered.  I was diagnosed on Friday, and had an appointment with a surgeon the next Thursday. Someone cancelled her surgery, so I had surgery the Monday after my first appointment with the surgeon, instead of having to wait till the end of August.

While I was waiting in pre-op, a former colleague walked through the room, saw my husband and I sitting there, embraced me, and offered to help with the post-surgery shots that I would need daily. All the weeks I was waiting to learn what was going on with me, my dogs never left my side. I know that you will receive gifts, too, and moments of grace.  Remember them.

Above all, after your surgery, only do what you feel you can.  Don't expect too much of yourself too soon.  Everyone recovers differently.  If you need pain medication, ask for it.  If you need more, ask for more. Eat healthy, and carefully.  You'll regain your strength, especially because what's making you ill is no longer inside you.

      I hope this helps!

      Hi Lynda

Thanks so much this helps knowing what to expect after surgery. Right now i feel terrible all the time. The heavy bleeding and all the cramping doesnt make me feel like doing much. I cant wait for that part to end.

I will let you know how things are going after surgery and thank you for all your words of wisdom. This helps talking with someone who has been through what you are going through.

      Thank you so much

Like you im scared but very confident in my doctor as well.
