I have had the contraceptive implant for 18 months now. I've started having light periods that last 3 weeks each time, it's very dark in colour almost black discharge at times. I've mentioned this to the sequel health nurse and she suggests scans and swabs as she doesn't think it's the implant causing this. Im really worried it's something more sinister as I am only 29 and my blood pressure has been high recently too when it's been checked. Hope you can advise.

    Thankyou

Hi everyone. I just wanted to ask what you would recommend are some good questions I should ask tomorrow? as I go for my biopsy. Thanks so much for starting this thread it's nice to have people to relate to. I'm 28 with two kids, pcos and a fatty liver. My periods have been more off than on aside from the last year. Last December I started my period and was on for three months, happened again in July and then now I've been on since early November. (I've explained most of this earlier in he thread). Anything you could recommend is appreciated!

Just wondering if anyone has experienced an extended period (literally I've been on for 3 months) and having large clots, and when it's lighter but not ending also passing light coloured tissue? Not red like clots but it like a light redish pink not dark red like a clot. I went for my biopsy today so only time will tell just wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

Hi Natallia thanks for asking! It went alright I explained all of my symptoms and asked if they are checking for endometriosis, what the biopsy is for, how thick the lining is and if there have been any changes, if the fibroids are causing these issues and what our game plan is to treat everything. So I do not have endo, I do have pcos which I knew from another gyno, the lining is still 18mm and that's been since my July ultrasound. She said I'm young band the thickness could just be from missing periods but because of being on for so long they wanted to do the biopsy to rule out hyperplasia (which it sounds like that's what she believes it is) and to rule out full endometrial cancer. Now the wait if I hear from her she said it's not good if it's hyperplasia we will discuss that at the next appointment. And to stop this current never ending bleed I am to take provera for 6 weeks. She said the good thing about hyperplasia is that it can be reversed by thinning the lining out so I'm very hopeful with that. I hope all is well with you!

Thank you so much for your answer and I am hoping that it will be exactly what you and your Doctor think.

It's very frustrating for me because I have noticed that my periods just irregular since March but I was breastfeeding then and my GP didn't think anything about it. I stopped feeding the end of July and still the same only I started to have around the middle of my cycle pinky little discharge. Now I am worried it can be perimenopause ( 43 ) can be anything. I have lost of symptoms of peri 😕I have done my blood test and will see GP on Friday.

Thankyou again and let me know about yourself, my dear! Just can't call you Disaster 😉

Hi again, I just received my biopsy results and they came back negative for malignancy and for hyperplasia. So I'm extremely relieved. I'm still a bit concerned though because the lining is thick (18mm) and I'm passing still passing tissue like stuff not anything like a clot. I do have a history of pcos and rarely have periods maybe 4\year and as of the last year when I do get my period it lingers for so long. I've been on provera for a week and a half and I've started spotting again.im only 28. Has anyone had this issue? Should I request a D&C or is the biopsy "enough" to determine that this really is just how I am? Thank you all for your help and I put this group is amazing.

I don't know if you've done more research since you posted this question or asked your gyno.  But a simple scrapping done in the office is not the best option and can actually push back abnormal tissue and be missed. You have to have a D&C, I actually just had one today. Now just have to wait for the results.  Good luck.

I am 48 yrs old, in April of 2015 I saw my nurse pract for my annual and at that time I told her my periods were getting closer.  I would have it for 3-4 days heavy and then get a day break and get it back for another couple.  I would also have spotting, but usually old blood so I just figured it was an ovulation thing.  Since then it hasn't gotten any better, my cycle is averaging 20-24 days total until November of 2016.  I then got my period and it hasn't gone away.  Some co-workers told me it was normal and that I am just going through perimenopause.  In early Jan I had an episode where it just poured out of me.  I had huge clots and cramping.  I hoped it would stop after that.  It did lighten but hadn't stopped.  I then had another 3 days where it got really bad.  If I didn't get up in the middle of the night to change I would wake up having bled through everything.  I have also had issues with urinary incontinence and urgency.  I thought that was a separate issue.  I went back to the Nurse Prac, because it has gotten to be very difficult to plan.  I am never sure if it is going to get bad and I might be somewhere I can't get to a bathroom.  I have been tired.  On the weekends if I don't drink coffee I could spend the whole day sleeping.  I work a lot of hours and just figured it was "catch up" from the week.  The NP scheduled me for an ultra sound, my pap test came back fine.  The ultra sound showed thickening, so a biopsy was done.  I don't have the results back yet but I am obviously nervous.  I am my sole support and self employed.  I don't know how I can get time away to do anything about this right now. I would really love to hear that my symptoms don't seem like any of these.  Crossing my fingers.  If my results are not as I would hope, do I have time to put this off if I have to for financial reasons?

Sureena have you received the results of your biopsy? My symptoms are similar to your symptoms. I go in for a biopsy in 2 weeks.

I am worried sick...18 months ago I experienced light bleeding...had a polyp which came back negative for cancer...obgyn said she took a good look and uterus looked fine.  now I am spotting again, had a transvaginal ultrasound done 2 weeks ago...phoned for results...doctor not in so the office help read it off to me...all I remember is hypo echoic area....My question is: because everything was good 18 months ago should I be worried about cancer...I am making myself sick worrying

      Hey Lindak,

I would go back to the doctors if I were you because you are worried sick and it will put your mind at ease. I'm not sure if polyps can come back. I have just been diagnosed with a polyp, heavy bleeding since last october with only two or three days without blood and clotting, and am scheduled for a polypectomy, hysteroscopy and D&C in about a month to remove it. If I experienced spotting afterwards I would definitely go back to the doctor. Just to make sure. Good luck smile

When I had the polyp removed 18 months ago the doctor said it shouldn't come back but it might...apparently it came back...I was wondering if everything was clear 18 months ago would cancer grow that quickly?...thanks for your reply...it helps to  know that other people care

I have never had any heavy bleeding even 18 months ago before I had the polyp removed...just a slight bloody discharge, enough to stain your panties unless you wore a pantiliner. Some days the bloody discharge was there and sometimes not...When I went to my family doctor this time she told me to use premarin cream for 2 weeks then use it 2 or 3 times weekly after that. Well, for the 2 weeks I used the premarin cream I did not have one occurrence of blood but 2 days after I stopped using it I had bloody discharge back again.  After the transvaginal ultrasound I passed dark clots about the size of a nickel or dime for about a week and now I am using Resplens for moisturizing and hardly ever have any bloody discharge....my family docot thought that since the blood sometimes appears after I have inserted the resplens that the bleeding might be from the vagina.. I was told 10 years ago that I had vaginal atrophy (again I had slight bleeding)...I am hoping it is nothing more serious then that since the obgyn said everything looked good 18 months ago when she remove the polyp....thanks again for your reply and concern...my appt. with the obgyn is MARCH 6TH...will be glad when it's over with.
