Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.
Thank you

consultant did not appear concerned. I finished my 3 months last week, have missed 2 periods which has
been wonderful, and my tummy does appear now to be looking larger again? I am not sure about your type of surgery and the fact you have not had children yet, ask more questions this will put your mind at rest.
Hope everything goes well for you, I had a few feelings of braxton hicks on the first few days, and did feel
tired initially, and have had hot sweats, I am (45) but other than that had no other symptoms. My
myomectomy is 2 weeks today, and now I have been period free, I have realised how freeing this has been, and the impact this has had on my life. With all this hot weather as well.

I found this article useful:

I hope this is true: By about age 40, women have all the fibroids they are ever going to have. Rarely will a new fibroid develop after about the age 40.
... for women in their late 30's to early 40's who have fibroids, the size of the uterus including the fibroids is, on average, about the size of a 10-12 week pregnancy--about 13cm in the largest dimension. In the middle 40's, the uterus including fibroids is, on average, about the size of a 14-16 week pregnancy--about 17cm in the largest dimension.... etc
I'm lucky to get the Esmya under NHS. If you are getting it on private, shop around for good price - 28 tabs could cost you £188 in one pharmacy or £157 or £128 in another.
Anyone who started work two weeks after myomectomy, what activities you can not do after 2-weeks?

Here are my experiences with esmya. I was diagnosed for multiple fibroids a year ago. The largest was 9 cm, a second one was 6 cm and others of various smaller sizes. I was told to go away and consider my options - the consultant advised me to research the internet. I saw him in September 2012 and asked for a myomectomy. He thought I wasn't a candidate due to the fibroids being too large, so he gave me a prescription for esmya and told me to come back after that.
I took esmya every day for 12 weeks. The reduction in symptoms was amazing: my periods virtually disappeared, I could finish an average sized dinner and I stopped taking involuntary gasps of breath. My energy levels went up and I felt dramatically better.
Due to some administration errors I wasn't seen in the hospital again until May 2013. My symptoms had just started to return - my periods were incredibly heavy and I began feeling heavy within myself. I saw a different doctor and he told me I could have a myomectomy and that I should have had one the previous year. He gave me a second prescription for esmya. He told me that at a conference on fibroids attended by a number of European doctors, they were giving good overall reports on esmya and were recommending 12 weeks on and 12 weeks off.
Due to other complications I have opted for a myomectomy, but I have almost completed my second course of esmya while I wait for surgery. The fibroids have definitely shrunk, as every woman I know told me I look flatter, but my periods have been so bad that I am now using a herbal remedy (which has worked very well to stem bleeding). I haven't had any side-effects from taking esmya twice, but I hope I have surgery soon. If I don't, I would opt for a third course of esmya, because I look and feel much better with it, than without.

She also prescribed Tranexamic acid for the first 4 days of my period which have helped the last 2 months.
I was then referred to the hospital who advised it's too large to remove at the moment, so have been given a 3 month course of Esmya, and am due to go back to the hospital in 6 weeks time for another scan to see if it has reduced.
I am only on my 3rd day of tablets and been very tired, after an emotional day at the hospital, and been feeling dizzy and light headed when I stand up and move about, and very intense headaches. I have read the side effects and this can be normal, however has anyone experienced this so early in taking the medication?
The consultant advised that I will not get pregnant whilst I have this tumour, however they will help and support me to get pregnant as I haven't yet managed to have any children.
Am hoping the dizzyness stops soon, and it's just a sign of the tablets just getting into my system.

I'm in week 11 of taking Esmya now. The first 2 weeks I was absolutely exhausted and felt sick and dizzy all the time, I also seemed to cry a lot! A bit like having constant PMT of the worst kind! The good news is that those symptoms wore off and the last 2 months I've been fine.
I have just had a scan though and whilst I thought my fibroid had shrunk it turns out that it hasn't at all which is really disheartening :-(
I'm going back to see my consultant in a couple of weeks to discuss options.
I hope it works for you :-)

Sorry to hear that yours hasn't shrunk, I guess they don't work for everyone, but do understand that there are lots of things that they can try.
Am hoping that the feeling ill stops soon, it's got to be better than very heavy periods and stomach pains.
Here's hoping they work.

I ended up taking a few days off work as I was so tired, but it didn't last long, I'm sure you'll be fine in a couple of weeks :-) x

The larger fibroid did not shrink however my consultant/surgeon said it had become softer.
I took 4 boxes in total was not allowed a 5th box so ran out of tablets 12 days pre op had what must have been but didn't realise at the time as the worst episode of pmt I had ever had in my life!
I am 51 my periods stopped as soon as I started taking Esyma BY CHANCE i STARTED TAKING THEM 1ST DAY OF MY PERIOD AS NO ONE TELLS YOU THIS UNTIL YOU READ THE PACKET.
I can't say I have ever had a hot flush. Extreme Fatique wasn't long of kicking in and by the 3rd packet I felt like a slug. I had my blood checked and it was fine.I was borderline Thyroid so I took some sea kelp and multivits but they didn't help.
I am about to stick on my 1st Elleste Solo 40 patch!
When I asked the Doc about HRT PATCHES at hospital after my op (as I was advised to do at my pre-op with The Sister) the young lady Doctor looked at me and said-----------------
"You are 51"-------I nodded my head
" HRT is for young women"-----------well I made sure I got them and I am now considering asking for VAGIFEM 10mcg (vaginal estrogen tablet) I believe this would help among other things with 'the leaking'
