Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.

Thank you

    Hi valerie89

I hope you are feeling better now, and i hope you dont mind my asking

I am seriously considering myometomy and was wondering what your experience was like? How many fibroids did you have? Was it open surgery or key hole? Did it take 6 weeks to recovery?

I am 31 and have about 5 or 6 small fibroids, they are causing pressure on my bowel, so i hardly get a full night sleep sad

    Thank you

    Hi Missy26092

No I do not mind at all, I have one large submucosal fibroid, initially after my MRI 50% in the wall of

uterus and 50% sitting centrally 12-14 weeks. After my myomectomy my consultant said whatever

I had been told was wrong it is 90% projected in my uterus, basically a 14-16 week pregnancy, as it

had grown prior to my myomectomy over the space of a year.

It was open surgery, I honestly did not feel any pain, I needed co-codamol for couple of days, I just had a

headache after the anaesthetic. It took me longer to recover after keyhole surgery to remove ovary, and

the first attempt at the myomectomy because I haemorghed on the first attempt. This was due to only

having been on the esmya for 2 weeks prior to surgery, my consultant said I needed to finish the course

    and come back.

    Hope this helps x

    Thanks valerie89,

So you havent had the fibroid removed yet? They attempted and stopped because the fiboid was too big?

    Thanks again

No I had a resection, his words were it is a big bloody mass with its own blood supply. So I gathered

from that he had trimmed it as much as possible while retaining the heath of my uterus.

It was big, and I was not fully prepared due to not having completed the 3 months esmya. However, I am

a bleeder, after my 2nd child I hemoraghed, almost had to have a transfusion, and my blood pressure is low

as opposed to high, these could also be contributing factors.

Ah thank you for your reply valerie89. I didnt realise a resection was possible! I would rather do that than have the whole thing removed, if removing it will lead to more complications.

I will talk to my my gyn about having that option.

I feel much better now, i just want to get it out. I am slim so the fibroid just pokes out on one side on my belly, looks strange

    thank you!

P.S I read on-line that VITAMIN D supplements can shrink fibroids, I went to buy a pack today - hoping for good results, might just be a fad but I am willing to give anything a shot.

    Update

I have taken esmya (fibristal in canada)for 3 months, finished in dec. my ultra-sound showed a reduction of about 1 cm to my 15 cm fibroid. While that doesn't seem much I jumped for joy as its the first time I've seen a change for the better (except of course for lupron which is only short-lived). I have to take a break from it to mitigate any risks from continuous intake as they don't yet know the risks of continuous use; the plan is to continue on with this intermittent cycle. Results are meant to be cumulative...so fingers crossed, with any luck it will continue to shrink to a manageable size and symptom relief. I might just beat this thing yet and avoid risky surgery!

    Hi ladies!

I'm 31, have no baby yet but realy want to. 3 months ago I found this topic . Some posts gave me a hope and helped to get calm, thank you all smile and I started esmya too. Before tratment my scan showed two intramural -subserous fibroids 6.8x5.6 cm and 3.3x2.9cm and 3 small about 9-12 mm. The worst thing was that one fibroid touched on uterine cavity.

Now fibroids are shrinked, not so much, but as shown in research - 5.6x4 cm, 2.5x2 cm, small ones are not visible in ultrasound. And the largest one is 5 mm away from cavity of uterus now! and it is great.

In 4 days I will go to open surgery. It was hardly to choose between laporotomic and laparoscopic operation. Some doctors advice open surgery because of more reliable suture on uterus

So, I wish best of luck all of us and be healthy!

PS. Sorry for my English smile

    Hello everyone.

I'm back with a new question.

It's 14 day since I ate my last Esmya pill.

I was wondering, on average, how many day did it go before you got your period back?

    Hi Cookieson

It was 17 days after I finished taking esmya I started having menustrations and the second bleed was 28 exaclty after! Which is a first for me since these fibroids. I used to bleed for around 14 days and spot bleed all month.

After my operations one my fibroids is now 6mm and the other has gone smile I'm also watching my diet and having acupuncture treatment.

    Hope this helps, hugs

I have been reading your comments with interest. I have had this "alien" feeling in my abdomen for some time. When I lie down it I can feel it move up to the surface and I can see it move across my skin. It is about 2 inches in diameter although more oblong than round. It then seems to disappear (a bit like the Loch Ness Monster) to the depths. I don't have any pain. The only odd thing is that I had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago. I went to my doctor about 2 years ago and he examined me internally but could not find any kind of lump whatsoever and I went home feeling a bit silly. It has since grown about double the size it was then. Has anyone else who has had a hysterectomy experienced anything like this "alien" feeling ?

Hi animalprotetor, I have only recently had my hysterectomy so cannot give you any reassurance on this I'm afraid as my tummy is still quite swollen from the surgery.

All I can say is, if this lump has grown since your surgery and/or since seeing the doctor 2 years ago, then go back again....don't feel 'silly', it is real to you so they should at the very least treat it seriously.

It may just be scar tissue but if it is worrying you then go back and ask them for a second opinion if you're not happy with the response that you get.

Never just accept the answer if you don't think they're listening to you.

Good Luck and I hope you get some answers xx

    Hello Everyone,

I have one huge fibroid first diagnosed about 8 years ago. I have tried all the usual treatments in order to avoid a hysterectomy. Zoladex implants worked perfectly, and gave me my life back. However, my consultant refuses to give me anymore. Today, for the first time I have been offered UAE, which I don't like the sound of. The other option, because I am 57 is just to wait and see what happens. I live in the north of England and have read some excellent reviews about Dr Ashwini Trehan. I have seen from his website that an initial consultation is £350 but wonder if anyone can give me a very rough idea of the cost of a laparoscopic myomectomy?

I am beginning my second course of esmya. Has anyone completed more than one course? What have your results been on subsequent cycles? For my first it was shrinkage of about one cm, wondering and wishful that it will be greater results this go.

Does anyone know if you can still have a fibroid even if you have had a hysterectomy ?
