Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

Posted , 480 users are following.

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

Thanks.

Guys i have been following this thread for a long time, about three years. I have had chronic hyperventilation for about 10 years. I came back to say that i have almost completely CURED it. I cured it by going to a buteyko specialist. For all of you still struggling with this. Go do buteyko excersises and you will be fine. It took me 10 weeks of hard work to get it done

Hey! Did you ever experience back pain when going through this?

Yes, posture was a complete mess aswell so i fixed that too. I suffered from an anterior pelvic tilt so i had alot of lower back pain all of the time. I still have not cured that completely yet. Do you think there is a connection between your breathing and the back pain?

      I don't know . I'm stressed it's something more serious.

That buteyko is so hard to do! It’s like suffocating yourself..

Do yourself a favor and see an allergist. If they don't find anything go to another specialist, and then another and then another. The more you cross off the more you know what it isn't. You'll just get closer to finding out what it is.

That’s what they have been saying I have as well. But? Everyday? Really?? Short of breath  everyday?

Mine kept saying anxiety also. She said I should see a psychiatrist. I told her that the breathing is causing the anxiety not the other way around. Please just make the appointment with the Allergist. Do you have acid reflux/ gerd? I'm sure there are other things that cause it though. I have some improvement and I have my first appointment this week to see the speech therapist. Good luck with everything.

Tell me about it.   Do you get pain in your back and shoulder as well? I feel this breathing is causing me pain every where.

I would see another allergist and an ENT. Pain n shoulders, neck, and upper back. When I am able to achieve a full breath it would hurt sometimes. Often from the collar bone to the chest in a slight downward angle. Seeing a chiropractor sometimes helps. I have been seeing one for many years since breaking my back anyway.

Guys just search the theories behind buteyko and take those classes. it did wonders for mij breathing. Just give it a try. It feels messed up but in the long run the shortness of breath goes away. If you really want to get rid of it you will get through those hard times of buteyko excersises

I researched it cause so tired of this... and you are learning to breath through your nose.. theory is basically you mouth breath tooo much making  your body struggle for air.. you have to re learn to breath through your nose so your body will not struggle so hard for air.. my issue I do not mouth breath at all... I have super sensitive teeth and sucking in air hurts my teeth.. I do have one nostril that does not work and already had surgery on it once and it is still messed up so it will stay that way until I die. There is also a burr on the top they tried to take off but it is still there. So my breathing through my one side of my nose is not the best but it works. I did the exercises and nothing. I heard all there was and really unless you are a mouth breather you really will not notice a huge difference. The reason this was just not followed through on for asthma is because there is no real new information to prove this makes any kind of change what so ever. All of us with asthma know if you are having an attack you breath through your nose and never through your mouth. Slowly and gently. That is nothing new, so why would the be all in shock when another doc suggested it for asthma patients (they already did and still do) I am thrilled this worked for you ... but for me still looking for a cure.

The key is not to stop mouthbreathing. the key with Buteyko is to breathe LESS. We are overbreating, taking in to much oxygen. You can breath through your nose but if you are still breathing to much it still will not matter. The key is to breatch so little that the nose hair wont even move. It seemed impossible for me at the beginning but ass you train yourself to breath this way you will get beter at it. Just go have a coversation with a buteyko specialist he will explain in beter than me. Im sure a conversation will not cost you anything. Just make a call. Trust me the need for air will dissapear.
