Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

Posted , 480 users are following.

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

Thanks.

Hi everyone I’ve been following this thread for about two years, trough out those two years I’ve been seen by various doctors and specialists. As of right now my primary doctor has determined it is either sleep aplea or a tumor in my Brain. Sleep apnea can cause swelling of the brain and hinder a certain receptor that allows O2 to flow properly. If it is hindered then it can be the cause for the low O2 levels and cause you to feel like you aren’t getting a full breath of air and constantly needing to yawn. Everyone is different so I’m not saying that can be the cause for everyone but I’m saying that’s where I stand. I know it can be other things like a lack of vitamins, acid reflux or some other problems. Just keep pushing your primary doctor to luck into it further by getting you appointments with a Pulmonologist, cardiologist, ENT, Neurologist, and espeacially a SLEEP STUDY FOR SLEEP APNEA.  Good luck guys hang in there.

WOW a tumor in the brain not at all it definitely isn't that and I don't think sleep apnea either I'm not a doctor but that don't seem correct at all I've got the same thing seen many doctors and that never crossed there mind...If your brain is swelling u will experience intense headaches and also a tumor would cause that as well I can tell u now it's something else

I'm finding it hard to believe that you doctor has said it's either sleep apnea or a brain tumor or brain swelling, that's pretty horrendous diagnosises and without tests!!! All can be easy tests to carry out and give absolutely ruled out so why aren't they doing the

      HI,

I had posted a long time ago about how mine went away. I struggling with this for 5 months and got xrays and checkups and no one could tell me what was wrong because the tests were coming out fine. I started seeing a chiropractor here in Indianapolis that specializes in ART its a technique that not every chiropractor uses. I saw him twice a week for almost three months and by the GRACE of God I was healed and could breathe normally again. I recommend looking into chiropractors that specialize in that.

I am getting an appointment ASAP. It makes sense because your thoracic nerves control breathing. I spoke to a friend who is a Chiropractor and he sent me a chart of all the nerves and what they control. there are 12 pairs of thoracic nerves and it specifically states that difficulty in breathing could be caused by those nerves. Plus, in addition to that, I'm a chest breather. I need to breath more with abdominal muscles and become a stomach breather. Just using 10% of lung capacity this way. We must consciously breath with abdomen.

sorry people we are in denial this problem is not from anxiety if u feel it constantly like the majority of people this is a lung issue that isnt found on the ct scans and x-rays and all the other test its scary but there is literally no way anxiety causes persistent shortness of breath for 7 months to years for some people we just gotta pray we heal

I agree ... this is not anxiety .. I am 70 yrs old and have been thru lots of anxious moments .. this is 10th month for me and its 24-7 ..I have made some progress ..(read 'The Nitric Oxide Solution' and followed protocol for enhancing NO) the air hunger/yawning has improved but the shortness of breath can be debilitating .. feels like bronchial tube is closed .. my Dr said I had every test in book and nothing is wrong w/me/he could no longer help me ..in researching the nitric oxide I ran across 2 genetic diseases .. both deal w/nitric oxide/liver/iron...1. Thalassemia is a serious disease but carriers can have very mild symptoms, as a matter of fact it was not proven until the '90s there are symptoms in carriers ...shortness of breath is one....this effects mostly Asian, Med.,Ital. descendants ..2. Hemochromatosis is an iron overload disease .. I just found thru 23&me I am a carrier (both parents had gene) my dr tells me I don't have it but some sites say carriers can have mild symptoms and of course one is SOB .. its a simple solution .. blood donation and follow diet .. this disease effects English/Irish/Northern European descendants .. I feel like the diet and supplements may be helping but plan on making a blood donation just to see (gets rid of iron) ..some people never know they have this and its not always easy to diagnose they look for anemia but not overload ..I know this may be far fetched but feel anything is worth checking out .. Plz post if anyone has in info on these ... thanx and hope this is helpful

Hi you state categorically that this is not caused by anxiety, you then go on to say that you have had tests that have come back with negative results.

if its definitely a lung disease that thousands of people suffer with then please explain why it has not been given a name, why not one top pulmonary specialist hasnt grabbed at the chance to make a name for themselves???

do you not believe in psychosomatic illnesses that give definite symptoms but are not a part of a real systemic illness

if you have shortness of breath that is actually a completely different symptom to the air hunger one.

shortness of breath is the constriction of the airwaves and can be diagnosed with a spirometry test, being short of breath need looking at and treating but what most people say they feel is a need to take a deep breath and mostly once they have done this they are happy for a short or longer length of time then they need to get another one, this can go on for an indefinite period of time leaving the person feeling tense and often frightened, this symptom often eases when the sufferers attention is occupied by outside sources but returns when the reason has gone.

sadly shortness of breath doesn't go away its constantly their and hinders even the process of talking.

so please tell me do you have shortness of breath or air hunger

not sure you are talking about my post but feel like my air hunger morphed into extreme shortness of breath .. getting my Nitric Oxide levels up has helped the yawning however I still have the need to deep breath .. I have actually counted my breaths and timed my yen to take that deep breath (about every 35 breaths or every 7 min) .. it was 24-7 but now I get a little relief in mornings .. still have to deep breath but comes easier .. even digestion effects the difficulty ..I don't have sleep apnea and lung scan/ breathing test were fine ..my 02 may drop fr 97 to 95 ..I had rotator cuff surgery last Oct and breathing was ok for about 6 wks .. then back surgery in Aug and breathing was ok for abut 5 days..anesthetist said my breathing was fine but they do add nitric oxide .. not sure how that works..just remember those few days after I c/not believe how good normal breathing felt .. I do believe certain foods make a difference but can't seem to pin point anything .. for a while tuna/shrimp seemed to help thus thought iodine(saw a little difference w/iodine supplement)now eating kale/beets for the NO values ... maybe I have learned to deal better w/air hunger but do feel like shortness of breath is worse now than when started with all this ..in researching find that liver has a lot to do with the chemistry dealing w/nitric oxide .. drs don't seem to think I have anything suspicious enough to run any liver tests .. they also told me that w/my mom .. a few hours before she died the icu nurse asked my why I didn't tell them she had hep-c?? She had many problems but breaks my heart to know she died fr lack of oxygen .. my goal is to find a dr that listens and believes .. I just want to breath normal!

Hi Sharon no my reply was directed at Brently, you can see the name of the recipient next to the posters name.

I'm not saying that yours is anxiety im just stating that shortness of breath is a totally different symptom to air hunger.

Are you never clear of it, not even when your say out with friends enjoying yourself laughing and talking.

If the answer is no your never clear of it and you struggle walking exercise etc then you could be as you say suffering with an undiagnosed disease.

You say your mother had hep C and this contributed to her death, a simple blood test should have eliminated this and if found could have been treated.

    • Posted

as far as I know have never been tested for Hep c...dr shrugs it off ... feel like mine is something to do w/blood circulation ... I get relief fr a supplement called Huperzine-A .. it is for ALzhiemer's and gets oxygen to brain.. this relief may last 2 hrs and can only take 2@day ..I also get relief fr one of GNC's supplements for nitric oxide ... but after a week or so stops helping and I get side effects fr the L-arginine ..I knew about the names ... I always have a good reason for things I say or do but to save me don't know now why I thought you may be talking innre my post .. just chalk it up to addled ole lady..lol

i have battle this for years now and this is what has help me cut down on the sodas grease food change up ur diet also ask ur doctor about gerd and to check if you have gallbladder stones all this has played a part with the breathing last year my gallbladder was removed and let me twll you infeel i feel alot better every now and then my stomach acts up due to my ulcer and it messes with me but i take some gas xs or tums and it goes away

Not to scare anyone but i had the 'air hunger' thing twice in my life and both times it was associated with pulmonary emboli. I also had shortness of breath with exercise though the first time I had that later. The PE were undiagnosed the first time for almost a year.

For me, the air hunger was likely related to excess CO2 that my body was sensing. Other things can cause the air hunger (like asthma) for similar reasons.
