Feel Like No One Believes Me :(

Anyone else feel dizzy/off-balance every day? I don't think my doctor(s) believe me when I tell them that I feel this way (almost) every day....I've not actually fallen down, but it feels as though I'm swaying even when I'm standing (or sitting) still....in fact, it's almost worse when I'm standing/sitting still....I was talking to someone in the hallway at work yesterday and thought I was going to fall over (although I don't think anyone can actually see me swaying)....I also feel a weird "internal" shaking in my legs sometimes...I've had a ridiculous number of medical tests, and they all came back normal....my doctors have suggested that it's anxiety, but I'm wondering if it might be perimenopause? My periods have been very erratic for the last eighteen months or so (which is about when all of this began happening)....coincidence? Looking for some advice from anyone who has these physical symptoms....how do you get through the days? I'm so frustrated...I just want my life back!!!

    Hi there.

I have had the same symptoms for years. I had a hysterectomy last year and was put on hrt but I still get dizziness and sometimes feel like someone has opened my head up and dropped an alkaseltzer in there. Its affected my work, thank god I have a sympathetic employer and I hate leaving the house or making plans. The doctor has just diagnosed postular hypertension which has explained the dizziness standing up but I am also worse when sitting or standing still. The world just seem to be tipping over.

I've been investigating and working with Donna Eden's Energy Medicine. Basically things you can do yourself to help keep the body and our meridians and neuro vasculars more balanced. It's easy to do, takes a bit of commitment and time but it is very self empowering as we can help with balancing out our energies. I've learned about holding points in my head to help balance out hormones. Usually ends up putting me to sleep and makes me feel calmer. Dizziness amonst many other causes might perhaps be an imbalance in Spleen Meridian( Not here to diagnose). She has lots of information on youtube or on her website. It's really quite phenomenal stuff and I think it helps.. All the best...I think we ladies are all in this together....these meno(peri and otherwise)pause transitions and hormonal changes are definitely messing with our lifes and bodies as we have known them..perhaps we shall never be the same once this transition is complete. We just need to find ways to help us smooth the transition.

Does any one get a tightness in the back of the neck as well as the dizzyness x
    • Posted

I also get the tightness in the back of my neck....and across my shoulders....and on the sides of my neck....at one point, I was convinced I had meningitis (love the health anxiety!), but several doctors have assured me it's muscle tension from anxiety....and that it may be one cause of the dizziness (blood flow to the head becomes constricted when your neck muscles are tense).....I try to do some relaxation exercises when I feel it happening....sometimes they work and sometimes they don't sad

      Hi

yes ... the body does tense up sometimes, i have had that too, and back ache and hips feel stiff, knees etc, it has passed... and gentle exercise does help.. and B6, B12, Maca ... etc

also getting the head and neck comfy in my pillow at night, Jay xx

Hi Lesley....interestingly, I had an okay day yesterday, but not so good today...very tense and anxious, which of course caused a headache and dizziness....which cause more anxiety....what a vicious cycle! I do my best to get through it, but it's so frustrating....I feel as though I'm wasting months of my life just "getting through" the days....I want to enjoy the days like I used to....there has to be more to life than merely surviving from day-to-day......and I know there are people out there with far more serious issues to complain about, but it's not always easy to take comfort in the fact that it could be worse.....it's just all very sad and the worst part is that it feels so out of control...I suppose the only way through it is through it, but I wish whatever "it" is would hurry up and go!!!!

Hope you're doing okay....my heart goes out to you and everyone else on this forum who is suffering.

    Hi wearykitty-

I so understand the dizziness. It is very strange and of course, people do look at you very oddly. They either blow it off or tell you there must be a tumor or something!!!  Ugh, no help at all. I was reading about this a few weeks ago. Make sure your iron is on par. If you have this checked, make sure it is a serum test, the ordinary one often does not show the true deficiency that may be there. Make sure you are drinking enough water, also. Even a 1% loss of water in the body will manifest itself in these kinds of symptoms. It is a pain in the neck to deal with those who do not understand, however, this is your life and you want to live it fully and feel as good as you can as long as you can!! Don't give up, look for someone who will listen, and be your own best advocate!

    Best wishes,

    Millette

Morning it's 5 am here and I am up eating fruit which helps my nausea mad  I chew gum too when I first get up which helps the nausea go away too.  My hormones are having a going away party...wish they would just leave quickly but they are going to trash the place before they go! biggrin  It will be over soon I say!  I never had nausea when I was pregnant.  This is the worst symptom I have ever experienced.  I want my life back!  wawa

Oh, Dottie7, unfortunately, I had mega nausea when I was pregnant. I had hyperemesis, which basically translated to being sick in the bathroom 24/7. I dehydrated, started spotting blood and was ordered to bed rest. There were only a couple of meds that were considered "safe" for nausea in pregnancy then, but they did not help and now they know that one causes birth defects...yay. But our daughter will be 28 soon, so she is OK. So, I sure do sympathize for you about the nausea. It is just awful to feel that way. Make sure your B vitamin levels are good, that can help with nausea. They make wrist bands that you can wear to help ease nausea (I am in the US, but I would guess you could find them in many places) there is also ginger gum to chew. Those are good options if you are looking for a non-pharm way to help! Hope you are feeling much better!!!

Oh thank you Millette for sympathy and reminding me about the ginger gum.  My mouth feels puckeable (that's a new word) in the mornings and feel nauseated and I chew regular gum and that works.  I have a 21 year old daughter that needs to go buy me some ginger gum!!!   biggrin    Didn't know there was ginger....gum.  It should work faster.  Thank you dear! I know this menopause could be worse so I'll try to be more thankful!  rolleyes

B12 and B6 sorts me out 😃 natural peri of almost ten years...

was a nightmare until B6 and B12 and others...

I tried the natural progesterone cream in 2011 but made my boobs sensitive and I grew a lump near areola under skin, Doc said it was cysty and it was painful to touch, .... so I stopped taking the natural progesterone and a few weeks later the lump went.... too potent for me...

      Tinnitus info...

at the bottom in treatment B12 is listed ...

      How Is Tinnitus Treated?

If a specific cause for tinnitus is determined, it is possible that treating the cause will eliminate the noise. If a specific cause is not found, it is unlikely that the tinnitus can be eliminated.

In most cases of tinnitus, the sound is an abnormal auditory sense perception of a sound that is really neither in the body nor coming from the outside. Our sensory systems are very adaptable. We get used to all kinds of smells that on first exposure seem intolerable. We also get used to sensations on the skin and in the mouth that, at first, bother us. Actually, we appear to learn to ignore sounds from our body. For example, the carotid artery (the main supply of blood to our brains) runs right next to the inner ear and yet we usually do not hear the pulse or heart sounds that are carried in the artery.

Similarly, we have found that tinnitus can be diminished by not listening to it; ignoring the abnormal perception of sound until it is no longer bothersome. For many people with tinnitus, the sound is usually masked, or covered up, when there is a usual level of noise in the environment. For these people, the tinnitus is bothersome only when they are in a quiet environment. Providing some environmental noise with music or “noise machines” may solve the irritation of hearing the tinnitus when you are trying to go to sleep or quietly reading. Masking of the sound by providing noise from the outside was a popular area of focus in the treatment of tinnitus for several years, but has not proven long-term to be the solution to cure that was hoped. However, masking clearly helps some individuals when they are trying to sleep.

We do know that individuals who focus on the tinnitus and listen to it constantly seem to aggravate the degree to which it is bothersome and seem to enhance the abnormal perception of the sound. Therefore, it is very important to understand that the individual is very much in control of the degree to which the tinnitus is distracting or annoying. We know of people who have focused on and listened to tinnitus until it dominated their lives. Most people with tinnitus just ignore it after a while. Ignoring the perception is very effective in minimizing disruption of thought and daily life. Studies have shown that there is not a correlation between the loudness or pitch of the tinnitus and the degree to which it bothers the individual. Controlling the perception by ignoring it is such a simple and effective approach for most individuals that it is the first line of coping with tinnitus for the vast majority of people.

      Medical Treatment

Medicine may occasionally help lessen the noise even though no cause can be found. In general, we are not very enthused about medication treatment as the side effects can be substantial and the results are often unimpressive.

The following medications are used in treatment of tinnitus:

lorazepam or clonazepam (in low doses). These are benzodiazepines

Amitriptyline or nortriptyline (again in low doses). These are tricyclics

      Cytotec

      furosemide (Lasix)

Mysoline or carbamazepine in doses used for epilepsy

      Verapamil or nimodipine

Misoprostol (Akkuzu et al 2004, Yilmaz et al 2004)

Acamprosate (Azevedo & Figueiredo 2005, de Azevedo et al 2007)

Melatonin with or without sulpiride (Lopez-Gonzalez et al 2007, Megwalu et al 2006). Both of these medications decrease dopamine activity in the brain.

ginkgo biloba (alternative medicine found in health food stores). A review by Smith (2005) concluded that high quality clinical trials do not support the use of ginko, although earlier trials found it beneficial.

beta-histine– for Meniere’s disease. Also, other medical treatments of Meniere’s disease may be worth considering

      ***** B12

      Zinc (Coelho et al 2007)

      Hi Marlene

my metal taste is menopause ..  see below...

In addition, estrogen is associated with the bitter taste buds in the back of the tongue. When estrogen is extremely low or absent, the pain nerve cells located near these taste buds are activated.

i also brush my tongue with a tongue brush and a special paste for the tongue it a round flat brush... also use tepe interdental brushes daily in between teeth, so its deffo hormonal ... i have about three different toothpastes on the go and always the same .. 😕
