Feel like something stuck in my throat

Hi. I'm really hoping somebody can help me, can't find any discussions on here!  For the last few months I've had a feeling of having something stuck at the base of my throat or like a lump. It's not there all the time and comes and goes. I went to visit the doc and she had a look but said couldn't see anything and all looked and felt good, but to be in the safe side would refer me to ent to have a look.   So today, a month after seeing doc, I had a letter from hosp.  I have an urgent appt in 5 days to be seen so that they can rule out more serious conditions such as cancer.  This letter has completely freaked me out and I have been in tears all day and am now thinking I have some form of cancer!   I'm a 41 yr old lady and a complete mess today as I can't phone or speak to anybody for assurance or advice!

Could my go have seen something and not told me??? Thankyou x

Hi, about a week ago my left gland just started swelling so assumed I was in for a bad throat or tonsilitis. The next day it was still swollen and felt scratchy/something stuck/hard to swallow but wasn't sore. I had a look in the mirror and right at the back towards my gland but not on it, was on the upper part of the back of my throat (if that makes sense lol sorry) was a small white thing so again assumed it was the start of tonsilitis. Anyway a day later and the gland started going back to normal, again no pain like you would have if it was tonsilitis, and yet that white blob thing on the back left of my throat stills remains, still feels like i have something stuck in my throat and can't get rid of it, it's very annoying. I've had one of those stones you can get in your throat before and it's definitely not one of those. Going to make an appointment for next week. Just wondered any ideas. I can just constantly feel it there.

    Thanks for any replies

I have had this same thing for two weeks. The doctor wrote me off at the hospital TWICE saying it was a sore throat. Can't afford to keep going back only to get medicine that doesn't help. Tried a handful of things suggested online and the only thing that seems to be helping is aloe Vera juice.

Hey Shannon. I'm still going through the motions... But recently have been put on acid reducer medicine and have to go to a GI doctor and have a barium swallow done. Looks like I will need an esophagus stretch and hiatal hernia worked out. I will let you know how things turn out after my GI appointment tomorrow! It's been terrible for me, sounds like yours is not so torturous so may just be acid reflux, but seeing a GI is your best bet. My regular doctor and ear nose throat doctor have been no help at all.

Went to see a Dentist just in case and she sent me to the Hospital. Cannot stop google the symptoms...Feel so bad and paranoid.

Did you ever get an answer? It's only been 3 days for me, but the constant coughing trying to clear my throat has me nearly unable to speak. It feels like if I could just cough one good time it would clear. I know most, if not all, of you on this forum are in the U.K. I'm in the U.S. Don't hate me. Go back far enough and I'm from the U.K, too.I haven't been to the doc yet. Getting so miserable I'm going to have to, though. Better save up. ObamaCare is not cheap. 😂At least I can somewhat keep a sense of humor. Or is it humour? Hell, idk. Anyway, I don't think I could be anymore uncomfortable. No sleep. Massive headache from all the coughing. Thinking this next cough is gonna fix it. (Not just American-southern American-forgive the shortcuts on words). Seriously, I'm gonna lose it if this continues. Hell, I dunno how I'll get through tonight. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Oh, and by the way, cannot be an acid issue. I, like many of us fat Americans, have had gastric bypass surgery. Can't be an acid issue after that.

For anyone reading this new. Feelings of something stuck in your throats all the time is a symptom of GERD ask your doctor for acid reflux medicine like nexium. Take it every day, all will be well.

Hi Samantha, I'm glad i saw this thread because for a year on and off i keep getting this feeling when eating of it being stuck in my throat, constantly and sometimes i wake up with the feeling. I've already been given Omeprazole and Lanzoprazole for acid reflux but it hasn't worked so i have an ENT App in middle of December. But all i can think about is Cancer and I've just had my first baby, keepnthinking the worst. Nervous wreck thinking the worst but the difference with me is I've actually nearly choked on a piece of chicken. Im glad everything worked out for your hubby. Hoping and praying whatever i have isn't serious x

When I eat I feel fine.  A few minutes after I eat it feels like there is something stuck or irritated at the base of my throat.  I've been on acid reflux medication for 4 months now, and basically have had no change.  I've been watching my diet - no tomatoes or fried foods, milk with my nightime medications because without the milk I'd always get heartburn.  The milk helps with that.  But it feels like the base of my throat is irritated or like something is there (perhaps a small lump).  I think I'm going to show some of these messages to my doctor and ask if it could be allergies.  One of my brothers and one of my sisters has them...  I tried putting my head up and swallowing (as AmidalaSKY) wrote, "When I lift my head up like if I'm looking at the sky I swallow and don't feel it but right when I have my head down or looking straight that's when I feel the sensation."  That is exactly like me!

Hi, I've done the barrium swallow test just recently and have had the my throats looked at through camera, all came back fine. Now I have a allergey test in a couple weeks, i truly believe it's allergies that's Causing this problem, I notice that when I'm around strong fragrance such as perfumes, scentsys and room sprays, that my throat starts to feel like something is stuck and hard time swallowing. I had to stop wearing perfume and my husband stopped wearing cologne, and had to unplug my scentsys, sad but it is helping.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I've got the swallow test at the hospital on Tuesday so fingers crossed all comes back ok. This past wee while the lump in the throats actually hasn't been as bad as it's been previously. Fingers crossed all goes ok x
