Feeling old

Does anyone else feel like they have aged over night? I look in th mirror and think “who’s that old lady?” My skin is dry, everything aches, I’m always tired, I don’t think I should feel like this at 47. My auntie who is 72 has more spring in her step than me. I want to start making improvements with my health but I just can’t summon up the motivation, anybody got any advise or feel the same?

Hi! I was feeling exactly the same when I had been diagnosed with early meno at 42. The only thing that helps me is hrt. It gave my energy back and my skin looks better. My meno was a total nightmare for me! Nothing natural or positive. I felt that I was aged overnight! Aches, brain fog, dry skin, awful hair...I heard that in peri all these symptoms are more intense and in meno things are better. Who knows!

Hi Caroline I feel exactly the same and im 39 and told im going through early menopause. I feel fearful, cant switch off my thoughts and just dont feel like myself. I did go on HRT which helped a lot but I was putting weight on with it and also a few other symptoms I didnt like so I have stopped taking it. I just cant believe hormones can make me feel this way its crazy. I havent had a period for nearly a year now so I am hoping the worst is over. I wish you well on this rollercoaster of a ride and hope you find something that works for you. I do take vitamin b6 and magnesium and I think this helps a bit. Take care and wish you all the very best xxx

Totally feel the same. I’ve gained a lot of weight, lack sex drive, looking old and feeling old. On top of it I have no desire to do anything about it!

Im also going to try using Omega fish oil pills. I have some hope i look at my mom and after menopause she's skinny full hair looks great and she's in her 70s! Lots of energy! I hope I got that gene!

Poor memory, palpitations, anxiety, hot flashes, thin dry skin and today I noticed my eyebrows have gotten thin too.  I read this  list and even I think I sound crazy! Anyone tried HRT and found it helps?

Hi there. I swear I feel the need to fall to my knees with arms raised to the heavens because I have found my home!!! I am not alone!! :-) I'm 47 and peri menopausal. Hot flashes, Heart palpitations, memory non-existent, crying jags, insomnia, night sweats, paranoia. Its just a cornucopia of hormonal goodness!!  I had one ovary out last May and for a few months felt kind of good, although no period. By good I mean I didn't have my head spinning on its' axis like the exorcist and I could laugh again. Now I'm back to cysts on the remaining ovary and a mass we are watching. I'm back to crying one minute, yelling the next with minor flashes of my usual bubbly, loving self. Thank God my husband of 27 years hangs on for dear life to those parts. Going for blood work tomorrow for the ca 125 test as well as hormone check. Anyways, Yes, I feel old. my skin on my face seems to have dropped overnight. I hate that I think about it so much. I ask everyone if they notice. Do I really think anyone in their right mind is going to tell the crazy lady that I look bad? Anyways, I could go on, but I am fidgety and I just wanted to say hello and that you are all not alone. Plus, you are all pretty darn great women! Rock on Wonder Women!!

Yes. I understand. I am having similar feelings. I weep at times for the body/skin I used to have. Other days, I feel happy and fine. It goes back and forth...but, one consistent thing is the exhaustion. I feel it all of the time. Overwhelming.

Caroline, this post really hit home!  Judging from your picture, you are anything but an old lady!

I can so relate though.  I look as bad as I feel.  I kid you not, I feel like all of my weight re-distributed overnight to my belly and hips.  Overnight!  I didn't gain weight mind you...it just sort of shifted.  Who has ever heard of such a thing?  I look like what a pear would look like if it could get pregnant.  Everything just fell from my breasts on downward.

I have these dark circles under my eyes that no amount of make-up can cover.  It looks like I got into a fight with a rolling pin and lost.  It is awful!

My lower back always hurts, so I walk around with my hand on my back like a 82 year old lady.  Except my grandma at 82 moved far faster than I do.

And the dry, flakes skin?  Fuhget about it!  At work I will sneakily look around the office and when I think no one is looking I scratch away like a monkey.  If anyone were to see me they would think I have poison ivy.  I did find something that helped with that though.  The in-shower lotion, combined with lotion when I get out of the shower does help.

So that's me in a nut-shell...itchy, scratchy, achy, non-motivated, bleary eyed, pregnant pear.  Lovely, isn't it?  Like most women here, I have taken great pains to take care of myself, but I am definitely losing this round.  But, we are down, not out...not just yetbiggrin

Hi Karen, your post really made me laugh, I can relate to you about the lower back pain, I have never had back pain before ever and now it just aches all the time! I am trying different things at the moment to try and make myself feel better but its so hard when all you want to do is stay in bed and feel sorry for yourself.  A lot of the women I know who are through menopause seem full of life and happy with lots of energy, I'm hoping this is going to happen to me xx

Oh my days I could of wrote this. My mum runs rings round me...I can't keep up with her and I'm only 37. I feel like I've aged overnight...my hair is limp, dry and thin, I seem to wake up with another wrinkle everyday, my eyes are dry and sore and an awful experience I caught sight of my backside in the mirror getting out the shower and I could not believe that saggy bum was mine...it was awful 😭 I have no words of advice as I'm a novice to this but I feel your pain and wish you all the best x

Giggle it’s terrifying to see all these body changes almost overnight! The only thing that helps me is hrt. It’s not the magic cure but it helps a lot with the skin and sagging.

If you do not mind my asking, in what ways did HRT help you?  Do you know if helped with anxiety or low energy?  I am currently weighing the pros and cons and would appreciate your experience with it, if you do not mind.smile

Hi Karen, I've been on hrt for 4 months now. To some ladies it cures all, but to others like myself it helps alot with nearly all symptoms including anxiety as long as they get you on the right dose and the right type. Its always worth trying if your quality of life is being severely affected like mine was. I couldnt function at all so although I still have symptoms they are tolerable. Hope this helps you. XXX

Hi! It gave my life back! It helps me with the skin, my energy is better and my anxiety improved but it takes time. It’s not the magic cure but after some months I feel almost like my old self.

I had the idea that all these changes will happen as we age not overnight after meno!!!

I'm hoping the consultant will start me on HRT when I see him next week and praying it works and turns back the clock so I look alive rather than half dead x

For sure it will help! How long are you without a period? For me hrt acted almost immediately. After a few days the symptoms dissapeared. The only thing I noticed was some muscle loss but I’ll try to fix it with harder training. I feel like my old self again! smile

I've been on the Pill so I've not been having periods maybe the consultant next week will advise me to come of the Pill to see about periods in not sure.

I really try to workout despite one hours exercise feeling like 5 hours! I go to body pump classes 3 times a week (training with weights) but still i'm losing muscle 😩

Why that happens? We replace the estrogen ovaries doesn’t produce, why we lose muscle? I think that maybe is our idea because of our panic or it happens really?
