    Hi Joy

I am only 9 days post op and finding this site so helpful already  I live alone and  do find dropping things the worst so frustrating I don't sleep very well but I took a spare kettle and coffe upstairs so at least I can make a drink when I can't sleep I found this helped when I had a knee replacement 2 year ago so I understand what you mean when people say your doing so well they don't see the down times but you will get there as we all will and enjoy our long awaited new Lease of life

love to you and take care xx

I started this discussion with a light hearted title, "feelings"

i now realise that it is not at all light hearted,

people on here are so kind, and yet, all have deep , unspoken feelings, as I have.

Its so easy to be lighthearted, but, this operation has a far deeper effect on people's lives, those who are quick to judge, need to take a few minutes to realise what a huge impact this operation has on everyday life.

    rant over,

    xxxx

Hear hear Joy. Couldn't have put it better myself. When my Mum had her hip done in the mid-70s she had two weeks bed rest. Now you are got out of bed the same day, walking the next and doing stairs the day after. I think it therefore gives you and others the feeling that we are all completely well again very quickly. And it's simply not the case. But we will get there. X

Hi joy, I've been doing really well, now 12 weeks and making plans to go back to work in 2 weeks. Last few days having set back of pain in hip while standing and walking few steps so trying to see cons to have check up. Really frustrates me now as doing so well, hoping it's just a hiccup and improves.

Sleeping .... I found a ortho pillow that I was able to sleep on side, have iPad with Sky go and Netflix on and start watching a few good box sets ,it's like the advert says 4 stages of box sets and night goes quicker .

Things can be up and down, keep positive.

I'm 27 days post op - sleep is a non starter I maybe sleep an hour to one and. Half hours then wake up need toilet/re-arrange pillows/change position etc etc.

Pain wise I'm better in that the awful pain from arthritis has gone and I'm just left with the operation pain which is nowhere near as bad.

The worst thing I find is the early hours of the morning when I can't sleep and I start worrying will I ever walk well enough to,go,back to work. Without 2 crutches I walk like Frankenstein and I get so depressed when I read about all those who are walking unaided much sooner.

Im hoping things improve over the coming weeks.

    Take care x

Hi, I gave up my crutch after 4wks, just because I'm stubborn. Consultant told me hip was unstable at 6wks, so to use crutch outside for another couple of weeks.

Ive now given up aid again, I have to say, we have gravel and un even ground in our garden, I'm still a little unsteady.

i have a feeling I'm in for another telling off end of November from consultant!!!!!

      xx

Well I dont have a partner here, I sent him back home to Turkey.  He was wanting more than I was able to give due to my pain pre-op.  I wasn't prepared to argue about it post-op so I guess I cant say much but I am sure there will be some one that can answer your questions.

Joy, I send a link to a site with advice on sexual positions post-op.  It has gone to admin so maybe better to search for yourself in the meantime.

I wonder why he didn't make the couple in the sketches look like they were enjoying themselves, it would be more convincing....
