Finally found the cause of my Prostatitis

After my 2nd test of just providing a semen sample, Staphylococcus was found to be my problem causing prostatitis.  This is good news to me since I have been dealing with this for 7 months and on and off for years.  I was on 2 weeks of Cipro and since it did not work and I am allergic to shell fish so Bactrim will not work, the doctor would like to administer the antibiotics via poss IV ABX, every day for 28 days.  The clinic is close by me thank God and will be in an out in an hour each day.  Does anyone have experience with this procedure for Bacterial Prostatitis?

My uro has me pee in a cup everytime I visit and nothing ever shows up. If I request a urine DNA and semen culture test what are the chances of bacteria actually showing up? Is it a good chance? It would be relieving to actually find something

very high probability the two culture will find something if you have prostatitis. All my urine cultures were negitive...twice...Tge DNA test is so sensitive it detected the probiotics bacteria that is found in the probiotics I take. crazy sensitive and can detect and antibiotics resistance. The staph I have now as resistant to the cipro class of drugs so I am taking amoxicillin. No side effects

So did you have to do both the semen culture and urine DNA two times before anything showed up? Or did these tests reveal bacteria the first time?

nothing on the culture. semen showed bacteria on the first and nothing on second. DNA showed two on the first and one on the second other than my probiotics bacteria

    Hi

?I am confused about this DNA test you have had.  Please help me out.  You say that "DNA found serretta M?" for example.  How can a DNA test find infections?  Doesn't it just look at your DNA make up to see what you might be susceptible to?  I cannot find any reference on the internet other than DNA testing to find susceptibility to prostate cancer

    Thanks

The DNA is the DNA left behind by the bacteria. It's call next generation microbial sequencing. Very sensitive, defected the bacteria in my probiotics. If you have bacteria in your prostate and urinary system this will find it.

      Michael

Was hoping for an update with good news from you.

I'm seeing a Uro who will do the DNA sequencing test.

Feeling relieved just over that. I hope we can get some answers.

For me, things went south after my biopsy in 2015.  My prostate got bigger and my PSA doubled.  And my biopsy was negative.

I had a low MiPS score and high % free PSA.   I should never have had the biopsy.

Well, you have given me/us a lot of helpful advice and info.  Honestly, if not for you I never would have embarked on the DNA testing.

I hope to find the help I need. I also have Dr. Carrion in mind if need be.

      Thanks again

Hi,  Can anyone refer to any papers done on Urine DNA and Semen samples ?. I am now on a second course of Intravenous Antibiotics of Ertapenem for 28 days, and after the first 7 days my urine sample is still showing multiple infections.  The nurse at the hospital is looking for any study papers that back up what we have been talking about on this thread, as I feel money and time is being wasted with this A/B and would like to try and get a Dr who would at least discuss this matter and try and deal with Prostatitis / Urine infections. ( I am also waiting for a new knee and been told they will not operate if any trace of infection, just cannot win ).
