Frozen shoulder 3rd time lucky

Posted , 16 users are following.

Hi, For those  of you have seen my comments on here already, thought I would ask the question, but has anyone been unlucky as me. Seen consultant Monday to be told I need third operation, arthroscopic capsular release - revision. Have lost count of the amount of steroid inj I have had. The pain is still awful and keeps me awake at night like the rest of you. Only been back to work 4 weeks on phased return and have been signed off. Tuesday 13th is operation day hope it is the end of it then. Has anyone else experienced such a tough time and finally got to the finishing post.

HI Jay! I am also progressing well after my surgery so we need to let people know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I can lift my arm high and sleep through the night. After surgery and 9 weeks of physical therapy I feel so much better. I still feel pain from time to time and the surgeon said it would take a full 6 months for my shoulder to feel totally normal again but at 3 months out I can say I feel so much better. So I would really recommend the surgery - the real surgery not the MUA - the surgery where they release the scar tissue that is freezing your shoulder.  Insist on it and it works!

HI lambcop2, That is great news. So that is two of us on this thread pregressing in the right direction.  Yes the MUA did not do it for me either as you know but the final (I Hope) and 3rd op has been the best decision for me. So everyone on this thread, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Although I am not completely signed off by my consultant I can honestly say I am heading to the light. Oct 2012 it was the start of a long journey, and 3 years 4 moths later I could cry not with the pain but with sheer delight, biggrin I to would recommend the surgery. Yes 3 operations later and I feel I am crossing the finishing line. So to all the FS sufferers on here and especially J93246 hang in there. I am with you all the way. Best Wishes.

Hi, I am pleased to read that you are progressing well, and it seems like your surgery is successful., well so far so good. So approx 3 more months and you should be feeling normal again. That is amazing. It is good to hear that things are working out for you and for others to read your experience. Keep us all updated as you progress. Best Wishes

I continue to do well and with only one surgery so I am very happy about that as well. I am so sorry to hear about all of these cases in England where people are losing jobs, etc. as their cases with FS drag on without release. It is so sad and frustrating to say the least. I hope all of you get some relief soon from this debilitation condition!

Hi I am interested to know how our post surgery rehabilitation differs from country to country. I am 3.5 months post rotator cuff surgery in the UK and  have had FS for four years which then developed into a full tendon tear. After surgery the surgeon told me not to wear a sling whereas my physio said  I should . I also went on a lot of car journeys on potholed uneven roads son afterwards. I am still not driving and have a pain in my upper right arm bicep. I also have had FIbromyalgia for 8years and am a single mother with no support. I have no idea how I have got this far!!

My husband fell off the roof at work and fractured his humerus and having severe pain in both shoulders the Dr. Is saying he has fs which I believe he has a rotator cuff tear he has had pt with no results so now he is waiting for am mri. I was wondering if anyone woke up with their arm from elbow to fingertips dripping sweat also his arm goes numb if it's hanging down or when he's laying on his back with his hand laying on his chest, I don't know if this is from his fractured humerus, fs or rotator cuff tear.

Sorry to hear about your husband fall. Never heard about the sweating or have never read any patient experiencing this on this forum. FS does have symptoms of numbness but this is normally all the time and not just when the arm is in a prticular position. The pain normally travels down the arm to the fingertips. The MRI will be the answer for you so lets hope it is not too long. Best Wishes for your husband whatever the outcome may be.

Got released last night. I have full ROM but the front of my shoulder is still killing me. The pain is bad. Did your old pain go away quickly and transition to surgery soreness. I was hopefull to wake up and have the old pain be gone.

Good to hear from you. Full ROM smile that is promising. My arm was paralysed for the first 24/36 hours so did not experience initial pain. Once it wore off yes I was in pain and took prescription drugs. About a week on I started to  notice a reduction in pain, but obviously  if I over used the arm then pain increased. Just did as cosultant said. 2 weeks post op stitches were out and the pain was reducing and I think I was on general pain killers. The soreness took a good 2months and I still have it sometimes. No pain after surgery I think that would be a miracle. You are on the road to recovery. May not feel like it at the moment but you are 24hrs post op. Really rest the arm until  the stitches are out. Then I guess you will be doing the standard exercises if not before.  Listen to your body when doing them as well as your consultant. Take it easy and keep us updated. smile smile

Was your pain after surgery identical to your preop pain.

No the pain after surgery was different but still very painful. Did not have the deep pain. After the stitches removal things really got less painful and two months on pain was minimal. I still have days when the arm gets sore even now 4mths on. Try not to stress as your shoulder has been through hell from surgery. Really relax over the next week and hopefully time stitches are out you should be coping on OTC meds.Assuming you have 2 weeks before stitches are out. If you can exercise the standard ones then give them a go. It will be painful but do them gently. I am  living this operation with you. I want you to get where I am. Keep me updated. Best Wishes

Hello! I just had my rotator cuff tear surgery October 2015. It was a bad tear and Doctor had to remove bone spurs and bursa. I was in lot of pain. Went through physical therapy for few months. I went to see my doctor for follow up. She confirmed I have frozen shoulder. I couldn't lift my arm overhead and arm behind my back. Now I will have another surgery which is adhesive capsulitis to remove scar tissues coming up on Feb 26. Has anyone have that and any experience? Thanks

I had this the other way around .Frozen shoulder for 4 years then a full tendon tear that needed surgery and I had to be manipulated under general anaesthetic back in September. I have also had Fibromyalgia for 8 years which has delayed my recovery.

Hi, My 3rd op for frozen shoulder was capsular release revision. Removal of scar tissue also. Bone spur was removed at 2nd op. Capsular revision was Oct 2015 and I am in the best shape Ihave been since Oct 2012. Still working on the exercises but ROM 95% ish. I often thought would this every go away but it seems I am in heading in the right direction.Keep positive.

yes, Hi...I just had a cap release here in the states on the 8th. It was due to similar situation to you. I am glad I did it, but it is now pic nic...it is a lot of hard work and dedication to PT>>. immmediately after the surgery and every day, exercises etc. I am using allopathic medicine as in pain relief when needed, sleeping well and am also on a steroid to try to quell my immune system from overreacting with more scart tissue like the first time...I have some pretty good ROM now but it come at the price of pain. In addition to PT, I have a cranio sacral therapist and on Saturday I got a massage....it felt fantastic. WHtever you want to know about my experience, ask away. I had no nerve block for this procedure. I plan on being on the mend for many months, and as soon as I am free to be on my own away from the daily PT sessions I plan to go somewhere warm to continue the healing. I have had double hand surgery, neck surgery and two shoulder surgeries...I am complete
