Funny tingling all over body

Hi everyone!
For about 6 weeks now, off and on, I've had this weird tingling all over my body.
At times it'll be concentrated in one place (like pins and needles) in both my feet or a hand or a shin. And then other times like tonight, it'll be like little sudden twitches of tingling...almost like a little buzzy, tingling insect. So tonight, buzz on my top lip and then my scalp and then my big toe and then my thumb and then my cheek. I go to scratch myself to make it stop (though it's definitely on the inside....not like a skin condition).
I went to the doctors about 4 weeks ago and he was very dismissive. Said it wouldn't be anything serious as neurological stuff would involve chronic persistent pins/needles in one specific area. I was texted for thyroid and glandular fever (as I mentioned I'd had a really bad cold and sore throat and that's when it seemed to have started). Both tests came back normal.
It's very annoying. I do have sciatica and wonder if that's causing it? The little tingles all over are keeping me awake right now!
Perhaps I should go back to the docs? To be honest, he made me feeling like a raving hypochondriac last time (despite the fact he could see from my records is not been to the doctors in over 10 years, apart from an A&E visit for a broken foot!).
Any ideas?

I'm having similar symptoms and have read this entire thread.
I'm a 40 yr old female and my symptoms began in mid September of this year (2017). I'm a single mother and had saved to take my two kids on holiday for four nights on the Gold Coast in Qld. Turns out the resort had no lifts and I had to lug all our gear up five narrow flights of stairs (incl one seriously heavy suitcase and lots of foodstuff). I strained my lower back mostly on the left side (I've never had back injuries before). Two days after returning home (back still hurting) I woke with a weird tingling numbness in the ring finger of my left hand and on the bottom of my left foot. My doctor prescribed anti inflammatories and after three days I was relieved to find the pain and tingling numbness sensations went away (though looking back it's weird to think it was back injury related as the tingling was in my hand too and the strain was lower back.) On and off during this time I've suffered colds, influenza and a mild respiratory infection. Then almost 3 weeks ago (after being diagnosed from blood tests) I was told a had a minor vitamin D deficiency and she put me on 1000IU D3 per day. That night (after the vitamin deficiency diagnosis) I was sitting in bed with two kids watching TV when both legs started with the tingly numb feeling. It sent my anxiety (which is mild and managed successfully with diet, naturopath and psych - no meds) skyrocketed (requiring lots of extra rescue remedy lol). I made another appt (insisting on more blood work incl B12) which she did, and said she would text results but I never got them, but generally I was made to feel like I was a hypochondriac (I've rarely seen the doctor except for colds/flu in the past) and that the symptoms were from excessive anxiety (though she tried to explain them away as likely viral related). My anxiety is well managed and only brought on when the symptoms present themselves.
Mostly this tingling buzzing pulsing kind of sensations are relegated to my lower legs but I sometimes get it in my left hand. Also am suffering muscular weakness as if my legs feel a bit heavier to lift.
Needless to say, I sought a second opinion yesterday and found a fantastic medical centre (with general GPs, naturopath, acupuncturist, dietician, pathology for bloods, psychologist and more) and just 15 mins away! My new GP was great and made me describe everything in minute detail, as well as taking down my family history of health. He also arranged to get my previous blood tests uploaded to see what I'd had tested (I had no idea what my previous doctor tested me for and no idea what my vitamin D level was) and the subsequent results, and also he will arrange to test for others when he first knows what I've had done.
He had one of their receptionists spend all afternoon calling around neurologists to see who could fit me in soonest and I've now got a neurologist appt scheduled for Nov 21 (which is a miracle basically because most are a 4-6 month wait and I got in within two weeks! (for anyone curious I'm in Brisbane Qld Australia)).
Hopefully I'll get some answers and will definitely report back for those future readers of this thread.
Thank you to all for sharing your experiences it's helpful with anxiety to know you aren't alone.

Hi everyone,
Just reading this thread and kind of a relief to find it. I do hope people continue to post back with what their Gp#'s say and also what treatments / vitamins etc help!
I've got the same symptoms = tingling thru nearly all of my body! and some numbness now in my lower leg.
I also am not sure whats going on!
I get some health anxiety too, so when sth like this starts, i can get really over nervous too, like others described above, which i'm sure isn't helping!
In case its any use, I think mine is possibly related to shingles. I had a nasty flu/virus nearly a year ago and got some tingling after that. I was tested by 3 separate practitioners (alternative ones) and they all said independently of each other that I had the shingles virus. But, the interesting thing was that I never had a rash, so most people wouldn't know they had a case of shingles. I then happened to read the book Medical Medium and he talks all about how tingling is often caused by shingles but there are many types and you don't necessarily need a rash to have it. This tingling went on for some months but not too bad. Then about a month ago I got a rash on my back - mild, just under the skin, which i think may also be the shingles virus. I can also feel a horrible crawling sensation over my back, especially in the morning when i go into the shower. I wonder if anyone else has this?! And now, this all over tingling has been going on for about 3 weeks and is pretty scary! My alt. docs say the virus is gone but i may have residual nerve pain. I am still working but its wearing me down. I can go to alternative docs with no problem, but cos of my health anxiety I don't often see GP. Also last time i went, and asked for B12 tests etc they said no. (I'm in UK and they have no money for tests etc!).
I have also had very low vitamin D test in the past (not been retested) and I'm wondering if this is contributing.
The other final thing is, that I have just gone into menopause, and I am having severe night sweats. I read that bad sweating can cause a drop in potassium, the symptoms of which are tingling and numbness!
I also don't eat red meat or eggs etc at the moment so wonder about my B12.
Its all a pretty confusing picture, but i'm determined to get to the bottom of it, as I have often cured myself of other stuff thru natural healing/remedies etc.
I have taken some tissue salts and some indian herb so far and for one evening it really has helped so I am going to continue experimenting.
Let me know anyone if this makes sense, or is any help.
Glad to see some people have got better.
Having written it out, I t hink it is a combo of all these things, plus stress from work etc not helping me to
have time to rest.
Feels like my nervous system is over-reacting..
keep posting with info,
thanks for reading.

Hi all!
I'm reporting back after seeing a neurologist today.
But first I'll mention that before seeing him my symptoms began to subside.
I'm not sure which worked in particular but MAGNESIUM CHELATE did wonders for my anxiety along with regular Epsom salts baths and chamomile tea. Better than any pill I've been subscribed.
So this is what I added daily:
Vitamin D3 5000IU
Vitamin k2 180mcg
Magnesium Chelate 1000mg in morning and 1000mg an hour before bed, so 2000mg in total which is equivalent to 400mg elemental magnesium (Doctors Best High Absorption Magnesium Chelate worked best for me)
Vitamin B12 1000mcg
Fish oil 2000mg
Symptoms about 80% gone after two weeks.
My neurologist said I've got a protruding disc from a back strain in mid September along with a residual virus. I'm to avoid heavy lifting, gentle walks and health eating, and to lose weight and all will be good (I need to lose 20 pounds or so).
I also started a new app for my anxiety called Calm which I can't recommend highly enough (I paid $60 Australian for a 12 month subscription) and I started seeing a psychologist who is starting me on cognitive behaviour therapy to help ease my general anxiety (though the magnesium is a natural relaxant and already working wonders for it I can recommend this enough).
If anyone wants to privately message or reply directly I will be happy to talk or answer questions. Many people on here seem to report their issues but never follow up and I find that frustrating.

I have been very ill recently with gut infections and have only just started to feel good again (after months of illness). Then the tingling started! It started with my left leg feeling like it was smothered in deep heat. Now it’s just shifting patches all over my body that tingle/burn/feel cold. It’s not particularly painful, but it is incredibly stressful. I also find that if I am in a funny body position my legs/arms will go numb instantly. My doctor was also quite dismissive, but I will push for tests to be done as it causes me so much anxiety.
I’m a medical student, so the thought of a neurodegenerative disease is really frightening. But I’m thinking that a vitamin deficiency seems likely, as I have lost a lot of weight recently with illness.
This post has been really comforting, as it’s hard to find anything that fits my symptoms!

Hi Sam, I had exactly same symptoms for a month. It started to improve after a month. I then had to travel abroad for 2 months and the symptoms went away completely. I do get occasional symptoms but don't bother me anymore. I thinks it mind over matter for me. Hope this helps

Hi. I realize im responding to a thread from quite a while ago. Im relieve to find that Im not alone n that most of the complains are similar to mine like anxiety, tingling, numbness, funny position causing immediate numbness and so on. I was just wondering if anyone's had any strange bruising immediately? For me this tingling and numbness i think was an onset from doing Acupuncture on my tailbone area. I had an ache on my left shoulder blade n did acupunture on that area. Then i noticed that (sorry for TMI) my buttcheeks were not the same height? (Left is higher) n i notice i walked funny n put more pressure on the left leg when standing. So the acupuncturist inserted needlees on 3 points near my tailbone and since then the tingling sensation and numbness came about. My tailbone felt raw and sore for 3 days. Wheb i told the acupuncturist that i have not recovered in fact got a different pain, she said that i need to go back to get acupuncture done. Ive been postponing coz im so scared that i got nerve damage. Is it possible to damage your nerve through acupuncture?
The other thing is the bruising. I noticed that i had strange bruising on my calves and somehow i feel it has something to do with the numbness or sudden pain on my legs. After a day or two with rubbing the bruise seems to go away.
I am trying the hydrating thing and hoping to lose weight this year. As Asian, i am waay overweight, standing at 160cm n weighing 82kg. People i asked almost always dismiss and say i just need to lose weight, like 20kg.
I had a bout of hormonal imbalance symptoms which ive checked coz i thought i had thyroid. Blood tests were normal. The GPs all dismiss me with Amlodipine 10g a day and said that my high blood pressure is due to sedentary lifestyle, so just need a lifestyle change.
Was wondering if it's possible to make WhatsApp group for us going through this coz maybe we can update or ease each other as anxiety strikes anytime and some may want to reach out n try what worked with others.
Sorry for long post, im such a newbie in forums.

I feel very lucky to have never suffered with any crippling mental health, or physical health issues don’t get me wrong however recently my entire state of mind has completely changed.
I’ve seemed to have developed a form of health anxiety, to the point where I’m googling different symptoms and illnesses multiple times a day. For about 3 weeks I’ve been experiencing tingling and prickling sensations everywhere over my body but especially my arms and legs. The sensation isn’t a constant pins and needs type sensation, but more of prickling here and there but never ending.
I’ve found hot baths really relieve it but nothing else. It’s keeping me up and night and getting me down, my job requires very early starts (half 5am starts some days) and im really struggling to switch off and calm down which in turn makes the tingling worse ?
I had a similar spell 2 years ago where the tingling was predominantly in my left arm and almost chest wall. I went to the doctors who instructed me it was nerve damage. This probably lasted for about 3 months when I decided to take matters into my own hands and have my implant removed. I don’t know if it was phsycogical but I instantly felt better when I had it removed and sure enough ( I can’t remember when) the tingling subsided. I would often think back to that point in my life and think oh how silly why did you overact so much, however since that I’ve had 2 further spells. And this one is most definitely causing me the most and panic.
These new set of tingles are different to the last. I do have a bad back (upper trapezius) but I can’t see why this would cause my whole body to tingle! The most recent blood tests I had were in 2016 following an ovarian cyst operation so havnt had anything recently. I’ve been to the doctors twice within 3 weeks and they don’t seem to think it’s any matter of urgency.
It’s just really getting me down I’ve been reading all your comments and it’s very comforting. I feel
Like nobody really understands, my partner just keeps saying the doctors said it’s fine you’ll be fine they know better than you etc but this doesn’t give me the greates reassurance I’ll be honest.
I’m absolutely awful for googling symptoms and I really need to cut this out but I think I do it more so to make myself at ease when I’m reality it just causes greater anxiety!
I’m really going to start eating a
more healthier as my diet has been shocking since December. I’m slightly over weight (12 stone), I don’t exercise so these factors, a long with all your tips I’m really hoping will
Make a difference within the next few weeks if this persists even longer I’m going to demand blood work ASAP.
I’m due on my period in 5 days, and I’ve been reading about strange PMS symptoms and tingling is in the list! However the fact I’ve been these sensations for 3 weeks more or less rules that out...
Anyway it’s been great just to vent. Any tips or suggestions are immensely appreciated. I hope this new year brings us all a little relief!
Thanks for reading x
