Gastric band - next week!!! Ahh

Hello!

Any post op gastric banders out there?!

I've got my op on 24th and starting to get a bit nervous but very excited about the future!

I'm on the milk diet and finding it quite tough, not as bad as I thought but I'm struggling with the salty drink as I can't stand gravy or anything like that!

Please help!

    Hi guys,

I really didn't mean to scare or frighten anyone.  All you hear about is how wonderful gastric bands are and you never seem to hear about the people who didn't do so well.  The main reason I became so ill is because I didn't have any information or support from the hospital that did my operation (NHS) - this, as well as malnutrition and other factors, contributed to my breakdown. Forewarned is forearmed and before you lovely ladies start picturing yourselves in bikinis I want you to be aware that it can be crappy and it's hard. Gastric bands can be life changing but they aren't for everyone.  It's also hard to hide that you have one as sooner or later someone will cotton on that you're leaving the table to be sick and eating really slowly and will probably think you've got an eating disorder!

Yup I had to inject myself with blood thinning meds for 12 days after my op.  My mum was doing them for the first few days but she was hurting me so much I decided to do it myself and it's fine - just take it steady and slowly and it won't hurt. I had to inject into my lower tummy and honestly, it sounds worse than it really is.

I have a lot of respect for you guys, it's not an easy decision to make and will change your life.  If I can help or support any of you please get in touch.

I wish you all the best for the future and hope that your band helps you to achieve what you've dreamt of.

    Kat

Thsnk you so much for being open & honest! It is very refreshing to hear the whole truth even though scary.

I am scared & although my op is all booked, I still think if I am making the right choice & what a big life changing decision it is!

I am sorry that it didn't work for you.

      Thanks once again.

      Thank you Kat,

Yes I haven't made this decision lightly and I have grown up with my mum who had her band fitted 9 years ago, so have seen first hand the pro's and con's!

      Really do appreciate your advice!

Have just looked through my post op booklet and nothing about injections so I'm hoping it's just surgeons preference or patient dependant!

      Thanks again xx

      Hi :-)

Hope your having a better day today!

I had my pre-assessment today and asked about the self injecting daily situation & they said I wouldn't have to do this! So i think it is depending on the patient!

Does green tea suppress appetite? I am so hungry!! Today has been awful & all I have to look forward to is a small bowel of soup for dinner! sad Oh well this is what i signed up for & I am sure once I see & feel results I will be spurred on!!

I'm not too sure about green tea!

Lucky you, all I've got to look forward to is 2 pints of milk!!

Maybe weigh yourself as you should of lost weight since pre op diet! I've lost 12 pounds so far! It does motivate you to carry on!

You've only got 3 whole days of diet left until the big day!

I will weigh myself tomorrow morning! Good idea. I got my info pack emailed to me today, as i still haven't received it in the post! I will pack my bits on thursday night, just in case im a mess on Friday!!

      Yes no problem!

I think as I'm not eating ANYTHING, it may be easier for me as I know I can't have anything at all! I can also feel the weight dropping off so that's what is motivating me!

How long do u have to stay in hospital for?

It is such a good feeling when you can see & feel results. I no linger feel bloated & I am sleeping better? I think its an over night stay only? I might even be able to go home same day? I would rather stay in though.

Do you know how long you will be in hospital?

    • Posted

      Yes same here.

I'm allowed home the same day depending on how I am and what time the op is!

I really want to stay in as well! X

Excuse my typo errors! I would rather stay in. My feelings and emotions are all over the place! Excitement, anxious & it has come around so soon!

I can can not quite believe that this time next week I will have my band in place!
