Haemorroidectomy and Anal Skin Tag Removal Recovery
Posted , 38 users are following.
Hi,
I’m now Day 5 post Hemorroidectomy and Anal Skin Tag removal. I’ve read a lot of threads on here from others who went through it and have found some useful and reassuring information. They’re all a few months (or years!) old now and I wondered if there was anyone out there going through it now or more recently that would be willing to share their experience?
I think I’ve been quite lucky in that my issue was mainly a large Skin Tag from post birth haemorroids but I did have a couple of internal haemorroids that were done at the same time.
It would be nice to know that some time soon, I’ll be able to poo without feeling like a freight train is splitting me open!
Thanks,
Lolly x

Hi all! not sure if anyone is still following this thread but I thought I'd give it a shot.
I just had surgery today to get skin tags removed (about 12 hours ago) and feeling OK so far. No pain yet and ih have not yet had a BM. My doctor explained before the surgery that I should wash the area after every BM, but didn't mention when it would be appropriate to start cleaning the area if I haven't yet had the urge to go potty.
Thanks for your time and input ❤️

HI, its lovely that you're not experiencing any pain, i didn't either for first couple of days, how were yours removed? i had 2 large ones lasered off, this left open wounds which i had to wear like a sanitary pad for a couple of days, i didn't actually feel like i needed to have a bm for a day or so but i showered as normal & washed the area carefully, then when i did go to the loo id wet some toilet paper with warm water & a little soap to clean, dry paper was far too rough,,,
because i had open wounds going to the loo became very painfull & they opened again each time so bled quite a lot, so i was in quite a lot of discomfort going to the loo & for a while after, this was for about 2 weeks then the healing really started & things gradually got better, took about 6/8 weeks,, now i have no marks & things look perfect, im so happy i went through that, definately worth it,, you could try a laxative to ease things, i couldnt as my system cant take that & id of ended up on the loo all the time, just take your time, dont rush recovery,,, i wish you all the best.

Hello, thank you so much for your reply!
I had two fairly large skintags that were removed using electrocautery. The doctor did explain that we had the choice of either stitching them up now, in which case it would be less painful at first but that they also have a 50% chance of tearing open during BMs and becoming very painful later;
or, leaving them open which would be very painful in the beginning. Each option would heal similarly and have no deformities, he said. Right before I got sedated, he said "I'll take a look and see what I can do," so I am not sure which route he took yet haha, but I think he was leaning toward stitching them up. I forgot to ask after the procedure, but one thing I did find in the post-OP notes was something about the needle count being accurate. Sooo, he stitched them up? My detective skills are amateur at most hahaha.
Was there a lot of blood for you in the beginning, even before the BMs? I haven't seen a lot of blood, just a couple of spots. My only concern is that my BMs weren't very regular to begin with, so I spent all day just consuming liquids and took a gentle laxative. The urge to go has still not come! It's been almost 24 hours. I just worry that it might be hard from something else that was backed up there 😫
Anyway, I think I will attempt to clean it today. Maybe I'll get a better idea of what's been done down there. It seems from the thread that 6-8 weeks is what it will take to fully heal. Good to know 😃
Thanks again for taking the time to reply! Hope you are all doing much better. ❤️

In the beginning there wasnt much blood but that was because as they were lasered off the skin was cauterised so that stopped any bleeding but it was every time i had a bm that would split the wound, that just went on every time but gradually got less & less until id healed,, trying to see whats going on down there is fun ha ha, but dont be alarmed when you do, it'll look a mess for a while, any swelling will makes things look 10 times worse, i think anasthetic can make you a little constipated so might be a couple if days yet so time to drink plenty, that'l help x

thanks for your reply! did you have larger skin tags or were they smaller ones ? the colo rec surgeon said i had a larger one that could be removed and 2 smaller external ones that he didnt recommend be removed because he said sometimes it could look worse after words and i might not get the result im looking for ... i feel like everyone heals different but they swell more at times and look bigger and i just want them all gone . im too young to want to keep dealing with this and feel self conscious about ....

i had 2 large external ones, i had smaller internal which he said he'd look at while i was under but decided they weren't an issue, to be honest after the surgery it looked like id got 2 massive gaping holes & initially they bled a lot & i did wonder if they'd heal nicely or leave nasty scars but they've healed perfect,,the scar tissue is kind of hidden within the anal creases,, i also was really embarrassed about how i looked, to the point where i tried to remove them myself so i wouldn't even have to show a dr!,,not a good idea! i just got to the point where i thought however it turned out would be better than i was & i'd better see someone rather than try anything else myself

hello there! how long did it take for it to heal and look normal? I am on day 5 now and very unhappy with the results. I had 2 big post hem external (falling out) tags removed and it looks pretty much the same as before the surgery. I can walk but BM are very painful. so disappointed with the results. If i knew there would be only 5% improvement i'd have never done the surgery

you just had your removal surgery done and it hasnt even been a week yet 😃 the surgery site will look so much worse before it looks better.... give it at least 4 weeks and things will start taking shape... remember, we use our bums daily when we go to bathroom so the pushing slows recovery some... drink tons of water and keep soaking3x day with epsom salt baths... you will eventually be happy you did the surgery but remember bodies need time to heal esp it being your anus... keep the good thought!!

Hi all, has anyone had any issues with the site baths? It's been 2 days since my skin tag removal and I had a bowel movement today the size of my pinky finger. Not great but I'm also not pushing anything and eating an almost entirely liquid diet right now (I don't know if the hot cereal powder stuff counts but I had that today). After the tiny BM I took a shower, then a sitz bath. The sitz bath was the most painful of all! I put some Epsom salt in the water, should I not have? What do you all use?
