Haemorroidectomy and Anal Skin Tag Removal Recovery

Posted , 38 users are following.

Hi,

I’m now Day 5 post Hemorroidectomy and Anal Skin Tag removal. I’ve read a lot of threads on here from others who went through it and have found some useful and reassuring information. They’re all a few months (or years!) old now and I wondered if there was anyone out there going through it now or more recently that would be willing to share their experience?

I think I’ve been quite lucky in that my issue was mainly a large Skin Tag from post birth haemorroids but I did have a couple of internal haemorroids that were done at the same time.

It would be nice to know that some time soon, I’ll be able to poo without feeling like a freight train is splitting me open!

Thanks,

Lolly x

    Hi all,

An update for you all: I am now 2 1/2 weeks post op from anal skin tag removal and healing really well!

The swelling has dramatically decreased and I'm experiences nearly no pain when having bowel movements.

My doctor had a post op phone call with me to see how things are going and revealed to me that I also had internal hemorrhoids that he did not remove along with the skin tags because the tags themselves were quite large and he didn't want to complicate things. I didn't realize I had internal hemorrhoids and was a bit confused as to why I was being told this information later on, but here we are!

So my at-home treatments are as follows:

I have a daily goal of eating 30 grams of fiber. I try to get this mostly through raw foods. I also do at least 2 sitz baths per day for 10-20 min each (warm water + mild soap per doctor's orders), especially after a bowel movement (I wash the area before doing the sitz bath). I drink lots of water (half my body weight [lbs] in ounces), wipe the area using witch hazel twice a day, and walk at least 30 min a day. While I may not totally meet my goals everyday, the effort has made a big difference. I have had at least 1 smooth bowel movement per day with minimal pain.

Looking forward to continued healing and seeing normalcy down there 😁 Sending you all love and healing ❤

      Hi there,

I'm Stephanie. I am now 7 days post op from anal skin tag removal and still swelling way more than the 1st day after surgery...

      BM is still pain.

I wish I come across this thread before I had the surgery. This is a big mistake😭. No one told me that it take this long to heal! I had a surgery on Friday(nov1) and My nurse said that I can go back to work on Monday. She was way underestimate the healing time..

I'm back to work now as a server (tons of walking, carrying dishes, sweeping and mopping). Yesterday was my 1st day at work. My shifts is only evening and 5-6hours long. If I'm on schedule, I will try not to eat much during the day because my biggest fear is BM. there is no way that i can do NO.2 in public place.

Please keep me update about your healing. I so want the swelling to go away 😭 I want to enjoy my life like normal people again.

Hi Stephanie. I'm so sorry you're going through so much pain! My first week was rough as well. I had my surgery on the 8th of October, which was a Tuesday, and my doctor gave me a week off from work, so I was able to go back the next Monday. It was still super uncomfortable for at least another week, and I even attempted to take my inflatable sitz bath bowl to work! That was a MISSION.

Yes, BM's are not fun at all in public places before fully healing. Eating loads of fiber, having mostly a liquid diet, lots of water and a couple of other practices helped me TREMENDOUSLY (check out my last post, I listed everything I did). It has now been 4 weeks since my surgery and I can't believe I actually look NORMAL down there. First time in a long time 😭

Stay strong sis, and take good care of your body. If there's anything else I can support you with, please let me know.

      With love,

      Lena

By the way, I had massive balloons down there with the swelling. It was terrible. And it gets better 😃 Now, even though I'm back to eating solid foods, I limit my bread intake and take a gentle supplement to help me digest ❤

      Thanks for your support Lena😊

Now, I feel like I'm not alone in this world..lol. This helps a lot!

Today is my day 8 after surgery. BM is pain but tolerance. I have to go twice a day (after Breakfast and after lunch).

Reading your post has give me so much hope that this surgery will work. Because Now It looks like I have 2 vaginas down there 😭

Will it shrink and went back inside where it belong automatically? Or do I have to force it back in? 😂

Omg, i am so embarrassed typing this.....

      Stephanie.

Hi Stephanie! I'm so glad my post gave you some support 😃

2 BM's a day sounds great! just be sure you are relaxed and washing after every time you go.

I haven't had to push anything back in, it heals by itself. It may not be completely perfect, but it will heal. In my case I have internal hemorrhoids as well so I get to take really good care of my body.

      Have a great weekend!

hello there! is there any improvement since? I am on day 5 now and very unhappy with the results. I had 2 big post hem external (falling out) tags removed and it looks pretty much the same as before the surgery. I can walk but BM are very painful. so disappointed with the results. If i knew there would be only 5% improvement i'd have never done the surgery

Hi I have a similar problem, swelled up it looks huge! Can I ask if and when it went down?

Hi guys. Merry Christmas. I had fissure treatment (botox) and skin tag removed 12 weeks ago.

Still in pain after bm and for 5 hours after so am still not back at work.

Just wondered if anyone could help.

So the skin tag seems to still be there somewhat, like a little bit and that is what is hurting to sit down, walk fast and go to the toilet. Has it not been removed properly?

I think the fissure has healed.

Any response would be gratefully received xxx

Hi! Give it a little time, mine didn't heal until weeks later, now everything looks normal! just be sure you are being very kind to your body with food intake, and drink lots of water! I explained everything I was doing in my earlier post, you're welcome to take a look if it helps you. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    Hi Lolly

I feel your pain. I am 3 days post op for banding and skin tag removal. was in agony for a long time before getting it sorted. The op was straight forward and felt okay until day 2, when the pain came. Painkillers take the edge off though.

Without wanting to sound gross, did you get discharge from the wounds? I am and it smells quite sweet but not nice, like you haven't bathed, yuk, yet I'm cleaning regularly.

I had first BM yesterday which wasn't as painful as I thought, although wasn't without pain. I've been drinking loads of water.

My consultant said not to google it as procedure is much better these days.

I hope you heal quickly. xx

Hi. I'm having LIS surgery plus banding for 3 internal piles and 2 skin tags removed on 21st march.

I have a question for you... I'm sorry but it's a bit gross...

After a bm I need to gently push the internal hems back up.

Do you think that this will be possible with the wounds from the skin tag removal?

      I'm so worried.

      Hi

I presume you won't need to. TBH I have not been near any of my undercarriage other than to bathe regularly! haha. It should all have pretty much gone; then it is just the healing. I had a bad day yesterday (day 3) and for some reason was really emotional and fed up (post op blues I think) but today is a good day and it is only day 4. The strange smell is going too, thank god. It is a must to keep the area clean by bathing - I sit in a tub of shallow water or shower, 3 x per day. I have ordered one of those plastic bidets to put on toilet to wash your bit with, anything to make it easier (£10 from amazon on prime next day delivery).

Make sure if you have pain, to take 2 paracetamol then 2 hours later 2 ibuprofen. That has really worked for me and I soon know when it is wearing off. They gave me codeine but I haven't taken it as it can cause constipation and that is the last thing needed!! eek.

I am not a sit arounder but I do think it is important to, to aid healing - get a good book, or in my case I am doing a degree so am catching up on my assignment that I never have time for due to work etc - every cloud and all that. I have been signed off for 2 weeks, I was hoping to be back after a week ( I am an Office Manager) but I will just see how it goes.

After my op, no-one told me what to expect or do/don't; so forums like this are fab for advice.

I am taking syrup of figs and eat dates to try and stop painful BM. I have only had one so far, in 3 days. It will hopefully be worth it as I was in so much pain after BM before I had it done, thanks to good old IBS!!

Anyways, everyone recovers differently so don't be worried about it and hopefully we all get the results we want and deserve! xx

Thanks so much for your info Del. It's reassuring. Can I just ask, did your internal hems prolapse on bm before your op? And if so, did that cease after the op. Like you said I really don't want to be touching down there!!!!

      Hi

I ended up where the one and a skin tag were permanently there and so painful.

I dared a look today and there's nothing there! yipee.

So it's worked well then. And they say internal hems are not painful. I'm sure mine are, but it's hard to tell with the fissure pain now becoming 24/7.

I'm glad you have had a short recovery and successful outcome I bet you are over the moon!

      Hi.

I wouldn't say short recovery, I'm finding from teatime onwards most difficult time, I'm still in pain and walking funny! haha. There's a lot of weeping from the wounds which is not nice and very sore. I couldn't even think of leaving house and definitely not work at the moment (day 5), just taking it really easy. Everyone is different though. Some people have hardly any pain!

Like I said, I do think it will be so worth it in the end so would definitely recommend it. Just have to put up with this horrid bit, to get to the end result x

Oh gosh. Sorry Del. There is just no easy way out of this is there?

Glad you are taking it easy, I think that's the only thing you can do. Just give it time and hope and be kind and gentle to yourself.

I'm having a terrible day so far. Been up since 3. V painful bowel m then bath then omg the pain. Husband was at work so I had to phone parents to come for me and my little one.

Phoned 111 they said go to local gp. God knows how I managed it.

Went for a wee before I left and needed another bm. It felt like my insides unravelled I felt it all go down. Then hem came out as usual but would not go back in.

      Gp said its thrombosed.

Prescribed morphine and I moaned and groaned the treatment room down.

Back home now on my bed wondering how the hell I can cope with surgery pain as well as this pain. Seems impossible.

      Hi Lis

      Thanks so much.

Oh you poor thing. Well surgery will not be as bad as that! I'm managing with paracetamol and ibuprofen 2 hourly. it will be worth it in the end so don't give up on it. xxx
