Hand Foot and Mouth Adult......HURTS!

WELL I AM 29 AND HAD CHICKENPOX A FEW YEARS AGO AND THIS IS WORSE!

SO much for all the 'MILD' stuff you see on every health website...

I caught it from my daughter who is 14 months and was in a pretty bad way.

Started with Fever, Feeling Sick, Sore Throat, Aches in all my joints especially my back and the backs of my knees.

Feet and hands feel swollen..

And face and neck.....

Day 2: Spots on hands, and in mouth my mouth feels like it is burning inside.

Feel totally crap

Considering when I had chicken pox the doctor said it was the worst case she had ever seen and gave me anti virals this is worse! I think the NHS need to rephrase there wording on there website. Can't believe my little girl has had to go through this.

Best wishes to all of you suffering.

I am on day 5 and I am miserable. By far the worst most intense pain I've ever felt. My kids had it but they recovered quickly. I read online that 1%-5% of adults can contract HFM. Stupid me..... stupid stupid me.

I have roughly 70 blisters all over my body. My mouth is by far the worst. I am at the point where I am considering cutting my tongue off. Not really but I two massive lacerations on the side of my tongue. They started out as small blisters then mutated into white thick ulcers. Now they are bleeding anytime I move the tongue. My throat is raw and consists of blisters all over it. I feel it creeping up into my ear canal.

My hands are covered with deep blisters that are extremely painful. They feel like thorns poking me. My feet are to the point where I can't walk on them. I have a massive blister on the pad of my foot and a bunch on both of my heels. They send pain that shoots up through by leg.

HAND foot and mouth? Why are my arms and backs covered in blisters? My elbows are covered in dime size blisters that are fiery hot.

I am so tired of the headaches and sweating and joint pain. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. This is hell and I don't see it letting up anytime soon.

As a follow up to this. Its been a year since I had HFM. It ended up lasting about 17 days from the first sign to the last symptom. It was miserable. About the 1 week mark was the worst. The worst part of the whole experience was the oral issues. My gums ended up getting blisters and my whole throat was covered in them. My tongue took almost a month to heal as I kept reopening up the deep gash I received from the ulcers on it.  I have my fingers crossed still that I never get this stuff again. Luckily, in our town, there hasn't been many cases of it this year. Last year, there was an outbreak amongst the kids and that got passed around quickly. If you're going through it right now, I feel for you and know that it will go away. Its going to be hell for a little while, but it will end. I remember thinking to myself one night in a pool of sweat from my fever "this is the worst thing I've ever been through". stay strong and positive

HFM disease is very contageous and you had a serious viral infection.a school inviornment is a perfect setting.teaching the children to wash hands more frequently and the school to disinfect the school can help keep HFM disease under control. So sorry you went thru this it sounds miserable. Glad to hear your doing well. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you for the update.  I am only on day 3 and am absolutely miserable.  The itching is unbearable.  Luckily I don’t have inside my mouth yet.  I have it so bad on my face that it looks like I have been burned. I woke up this morning ( actually was able to sleep a couple of hours last night!) with my hands swollen and my finger nails throbbing.  So maybe I will lose my nails, somthing to look forward to!  I was glad you mentioned the duration of this misery.  This seems to be getting worse with each passing day rather than better.  The only time it seems better is when i take a shower.  I took 5 yesterday.

Oh well, this too shall pass

You should ask your doctor if she/he can give you some steroids or "magic" mouthwashes because it's help a lot!

    Hello everyone,

I'm 23 years old ( 24 by next month) female who suffering with this Hand Foot Mouth nasty disease. I'm on day 6 and still can't talk normally because of all the blisters in my mouth. It started with low fever and sore throats, then red dot like pimples on the palm of my hands, then a lot of blisters appeared inside my mouth, even my throats, on top and bottom of the tongue are covered with blisters. I can't really eat or drink anything for the first few days. I tried really hard to "drink" baby foods. On day 5, I realized this disease will not go away and it keeps getting worse, my mouth and lips  are swollen, red dots starting to appear on my foots. I was in pain to the point that I can't handle anymore, I went to the urgent care on day 5 and doctor said my case is the worst she have ever seen, she gave me some steroid to take twice per day, for 5 days. And "magic" mouthwash to help my whole mouth numb, so I can drink fluids easily. Now I'm on day 6 and the blisters on my throat are gone, i can swallow fluids easily, but my lips are still covered with blisters. Hopefully, praying God that it will completely gone in a few days because this nasty disease is too painful.

I just went through this a month ago.  I had it just like you I am 33. It was horrible.  I promise you should start to see some relief tomorrow. Everyday it improves a lot once you start to notice some relief.  I went from horrible to pretty good in 36 hours.  Hang in there!

So relieved to see other adults are struggling with this too. I’m 21, and was just diagnosed with HFM today. However, I am only having issues with my mouth. I have ulcers on my lips and everywhere within my mouth. I haven’t eaten in 4 days and my throat feels scratchy. Every night I can only sleep for about two hours at a time because of the terrible night sweats

I’m very terrified seeing all of this about it taking weeks for the lacerations within my mouth to go away. I am on the verge of a mental breakdown. The pain is so bad I have been unable to concentrate on school work or do anything really.

Does anyone know of anything that can help with the severe mouth pain? I’ve been sing canker sore ointment as well as orajel and a mouth sore oral rinse. None of that seems to even touch the pain...

I have been rotating Advil and Tylenol with codeine that was prescribed by my doctor but I’m still in so much pain it’s ubelievable.

If anyone can help me, please feel free to reach out!

Hi everyone. I do have caught this awful disease. It started with red spots and countless blisters on my hands. My hands are SO swollen and stiff I can't move my fingers. My back is covered in pimples. And now my face is getting spots everywhere. This started 2 days ago. Tonight I started to feel severe pain in my feet. I feel like I'm walking on glass. I need to use crutches to avoid the pain. I have a 4 yr old daughter and I'm scared she will catch it. I'm literally roaming around with a can of Lysol disinfecting everything. And washing my hands often yet that doesn't help my hands. It's making my hands drier and more stiff. I have no issues with my mouth yet.. I really hope I can skip that I'm suffering enough and it's only day 2. I don't wish this upon anyone it's terrible!

I'm 37 and currently Day 7 for HFMD. I'm Okie with fever, sore hands or foot, but the ulcers in my mouth are killing me.

I have never been in so much pain in my life. I can't eat, drink and sleep... my only relieve is painkillers which wear off at about 3 hours but am only supposed to have it every 6 hours.
