Has the forum got M.E again ??

I found your article quite helpful.
I just recently had a diagnosis of CFS and did not believe or understand what it was about. It is good to know in your article that may there be some options and support to improve this condition. It is also helpful to know there are books or organisations that may be good for me during this period. I have found that doing a little bit of excercise make me tired but helps me to avoid depression or feeling part of the community.

I am sorry to hear that you have been so unwell - and particularly that your family have not been very helpful with their comments.
You don't mention what started your problems - but obviously your GP feels you have had some sort of virus - hence his diagnosis of post viral fatigue. Hopefully, this won't develop into full-blown ME - I've known of several people who recover completely after several months. You don't mention how long you have been unwell.
A clinical diagnosis of ME is usually made after symptoms have continued for at least six months and, as there isn't at present any actual diagnostic test, it's made on a collection of symptoms. If you look back over the postings on this forum you will find a listing of these. You may also find it helpful to read some of our postings.
There are also some excellent books available on the subject - it would be useful if your family read some of them to understand exactly how you feel.
Take care and let us know how you get on.

As we're all busy comparing notes here's another one!
Does anyone have problems with standing?
One of the worst things for me is to have to STAND and talk to someone.
I've just been reminded of this whilst chatting to a neighbour this afternoon - and I found myself leaning on a holly bush (of all things) rather than try and stand upright. Most frustrating and very difficult to explain to anyone who doesn't understand.
When my daughter gets married in May, I shall be the one in dark glasses
leaning against a pillar trying to act normally!! (And that's before I have a drink!!).

Is there anything else you do that I do? I thought I was just weak or lazy or pathetic. Standing is awful. Walking is ok, I walk my little dog most days, but ask me to stand in a queue and I will go so weak and funny and dizzy and my legs will feel as though the bones are being pulled out of them.
So that's phone calls and standing, what else do we have in common then? Oh yes, the IBS.

Your thoughts and observations speak for all of us - if only someone would listen. As you rightly say, it would be a start if our postings were read by those who are sceptical that the illness actually exists. They could then witness the misery, helplessness and frustration first hand.
Surely, the time has come when ME sufferers should receive the same acceptance and help from the medical profession as other similar disabling illnesses.
Let us just hope and pray, that it happens in our lifetime.

Yes, I walk a dog most days too (or rather she walks me). Some days, though I only have the energy to sit and throw a ball.
I'm sure I can come up with lots of other similarities!!
Take care

I take Max to the field and he starts running around. when he stops to smell I carry on walking. He looks up to see me gone and comes chasing over to me so fast that he runs past me. At that point i turn 180 degrees. By the time he's noticed he has to run to catch up. Again he runs past and I turn. So I just keep taking a few steps and turn a few steps and turn, and Max keeps haring back and forth like something demented. He hasn't sussed it out yet, daft thing. :D

Just a quick note to let you all know that I have been having lower abdominal pain in the right side for 48hrs now. Initially they suspected that it was my appendix but not all my symptons fit the category because beside having the bad pain my belly is SO big - and NO I am not pregnant. They found some blood, protein and white cells in my water sample.
I have had visit the Dr's Surgery twice today to keep an eye on me and was told that I would be admitted at tea-time if it was no better. Thankfully I saw my own GP and knowing how independant I am she suggested that I try some antispasm drugs and commence some antibiotics. Although ut was taken the edge away I am still in a great deal of discomfort. She has told me to take myself to hospital if it wasnt getting better and that I may still be likely to be admitted when I return in the morning. My stomach is so tender and swollen - and NO I am NOT pregnant!
Thankyou all for your get well wishes this was my first port once I could get comfortable.
Fingers crossed I might feel better in the morning and still be able to rest at home and chat with you guys!
I will speak again asap

Im there to with standing still, to me its like sleep walking but without the walking, i start to feel faint and end up in a panic attack, the other one for me is esculators (think i spelt it right) im hanging on for dear life when i go up or down them, i also walk with a lean to the right (hence i had my MRI scan a couple weeks ago) but the funny thing is im ok on my bike, although i do strain my neck and arm muscles easily (strain aurticaria)
Take care

Yes, thanks for getting in touch - I've been thinking about you.
I've just put my nurse's hat on so I'm having a think about what could be the problem other that the obvious - appendicitis. But you don't usually have a swollen tummy with it - sure it's not wind - like I get!
Your urine tests indicate a possible urine infection and the antibiotics should soon knock that on the head. A kidney infection can cause real pain, but again, not usually a swollen tummy. You would also have a temperature if it was that.
Maybe, it's just a very nasty tummy-type bug that will hopefully disappear
of its own accord - there are so many of them around at the moment.
I had similar symptoms a couple of years ago - I had even packed my bag as I was sure it was appendicitis - but it turned out to be a pulled abdominal muscle, and every time my bowel contracted it moved the muscle hence the wave-like pain.
Anyway, Donna, do take care and we will all be thinking of you.
Lots of love

We would make a really great team 'cos I lean slightly to the left when I walk! We would be perfectly balanced!
I don't DO escalators these days - the last time I used one I really panicked as I felt so dizzy and wonky (especially going down) - and I try not to do stairs as well. I always pray the lifts are working!!
Just as well that you are okay on your bike, Jay. Perhaps I should get one - though a Lambretta (?spelling) would be more my style - oh, and with stabilisers, I think. And a few 'go faster' stripes to make it look as if I am doing more than 5mph. 8) 8) Oh, and perhaps it could have a nice basket on the front for my dog! But defintely NO sidecar!!
You've really got me thinking now, Jay!
Take care

Note to Alicia: I'll let you know how I get on with your dog walking technique!!

I don't lean any more because I have had custom made orthotics fitted in my shoes by a podiatrist which has corrected my posture. It hasn't helped the fatigue but I can walk more efficiently and my legs get less tired as quickly now. :D
Katie, I think what you are describing there is a mobility scooter - perhaps a nice 8mph one would suit you...(ducks as inanimate objects hurled in my direction  )

Really upset at the moment as I have had to face up to some realities of what is happening  . I passed my driving test in July last year(after 5 attempts and 7 yrs) and bought myself a Clio - which I love only marginally less than my daughter
Unfortunately as the tiredness and dizziness have got worse and my concentration is non-existent most of the time I have been unable to drive for about the last 3 months. On the odd short journey I have taken it has been horrendous and I've barely dared look in my rearview mirror for fear of pile-ups behind me caused by my appaling driving. Also holding the steering wheel has become incredibly painful as the vibrations seem to go straight through my hands and arms.
I've now had to accept that it would be irresponsible of me to continue drving (not to mention probably illegal ) and have got rid of my car. It really does feel like the final insult and I can't help but wonder how much more I will lose before this awful nightmare ends. It has been a wake-up call really and I guess will be one of my first real steps to facing up to the true reality and seriousness of my deteriorating health.
Sorry to be babbling so much but i feel like I'm going crazy with grief of yet another loss in my life and I felt you guys would probably be able to understand (if not relate) to my latest horror.
Anyway hope life is treating you guys kinder
take care everyone
Michelle
