healing time after botox for anal fissure

Hi everyone!

So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.

Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?

Any advice truly appreciated!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Have you seen any relief after the Botox injection. I have Botox scheduled next week. Also has it negatively impacted your bowel movements?

    Thanks.

i am wondering if anyone is experiencing something similar to myself other than the intense agonising pain & everything else that comes with having an anal fissure. when i apply any creams or oitments to my fissure shortly after having a BM i have around 4-5 minutes of severe stinging. Its an agonising feeling and this is a new symptom for me.

i personally would recommend gently cleaning yourself after a BM with warm water (so maybe bring a cup of some in the restroom with you and dip your toilet paper in there before you wipe) and then take a sitz bath (soak in the warmest water you can stand for about 15-20 minutes) warm water produces blood flow to the area which promotes healing. its the opposite if youre dealing with hemorrhoids so hopefully you arent dealing with both like i am. take several sitz baths a day if you ca or put a heating pad in the area. if it hurts to put creams then dont. i actually made little suppository molds out of plastic wrap and froze some coconut oil in them (15min in freezer) i didnt stick the whole mold into my anus, i just put it in there about an inch...and i am not joking you.... the coconut oil was the only thing that didnt give me a burning sensation and felt soothing. please try softening your stools as much as you can. the pain lasts awhile but once you can get the stools soft enough and keep the blood flowing with the warmwater and the proper cleaning of the area (i mean, you are having poop go into a cut) then you should be on the right road to recovery. avoid nuts, popcorn and alcohol and keep your BM as small as possible. bulky stools do not help you heal..even if theyre soft. if you can later when the pain isnt too bad, before your BM use vaseline before you go. i really hope any of this info i shared helps you.

after 5 months of suffering at home (gp not seeing anyone due to covid) with what has to be the worst pain I have ever encountered I ended up in A&E. at this point I didn't know what I was suffering. piles? fissure? cancer? my mind was thinking all sorts, the same day I was put under anaesthetic and recieved botox treatment. the pain that came after is indescribable. all I was given was paracetamol for it, it was so bad that at 3am I had my husband collect me from hospital, all I wanted was to go home and sit in a warm bath. the agony that comes from a fissure is a different level. I would honestly give birth rather than endure a fissure pain. it has been soul destroying. it has now been 3 weeks since the botox and I am now getting relief. the pain during a bowel movement is almost gone and I can assure you it was bad before.. we all know that pain!! there is also a big difference in the pain after BM, before botox I would be rolling around the bed in agony, I honestly had moments I wished I was dead.. but now the pain is minimal and slowly but surely I am starting to get my life back and am able to go about my daily routine. I would have to say for me the botox is definitely working, I am hoping that all is healing well and I wont need to repeat. my heart goes out to anyone suffering this and I wish you all well in your healing.

hi! I'm so sorry to hear that the botox isn't working as you had hoped it would.

I have not had the botox or surgery done but I have suffered on and off with anal fissures for the past 5years and I'd like to share with you a few things in regards to my situation... my life of comfortable stool sessions have gone down the drain..(pun) ..anywho... I have to be careful with what i eat, i have to clean my anal area after every bowel movement, I have to take miralax sometimes every day to avoid a hard or even firm stool... I took endless sitz baths and I used nefedipine ointment that I got from my doctor. It has been 5years of trial and error. As time went on i found ways to heal quicker and was able to deal with the pain. I also deal with hemmoroids. I have officially and finally gone 6 months with no fissures. I got brave and stopped with the miralax and ended up getting hemmoroid issues but theyre okay now. i have asked doctors if i can continue to take miralax as i see fit and they agreed. they told me that some children and adults are on miralax for life and it hasnt had side effects. i use vaseline each time before i go poop. if i have itching, i use some cold coconut oil around the area. going to the bathroom has become time consuming, but i do feel better and can definitely go through life feeling like i dont need surgery. hope any of my tips on my routine help you in some way. (please excuse all of my spelling or grammar errors)

took around 3 weeks after my botox to feel the benefit. its now been 4 weeks and today has been the best I have felt in months. feeling positive for the first time in a long time. bm pain is minimal, I'm almost numb so feeling is majorly reduced, still scary but that's more psychological I think. dare I say I think I am beginning to heal.. I will see the surgeon again next month to assess my fissure and have a polyp removed that was also found during my colonoscopy and see if any further treatment is needed. fingers crossed I think I am winning the fight against this fissure.

I am eating quite a high fibre diet and take laxatives religiously. i avoid any stodgy foods and I eat my body weight In veg every day and I drink a minimumof 2l of water a day... surgeon did mention I could have problems regarding controlling wind after the botox but I thankfully haven't experienced that at all!! luckily for my husband lol i also find buscopan very helpful in controlling that bubbly feeling i get from all the laxitives.. It's now been almost 6 weeks since the botox and I am having pain free BM 😃

That's amazing news... I'm now at the 3 week mark so still having pain when I go to the loo... Hopefully it will get easier in the next few weeks. It takes me a good few hours to be able to get moving after the loo... Fyobel and lactulose and lots of water... Really hoping my tear heals as don't want to get more botox. X

it did need the month for me to feel significantly better so dont lose hope! I honestly thought I'd never get through this, never known anything like the pain of a fissure!! are you on a high dose of laxitive? I was put on a very high dose so my bowel movements were just water, anything more than that and it just killed me. not pleasant to have such a gurgly tummy but it benefited my tear. I dont think the fear of using the toilet will ever leave me but the pain has at last, though I do get uncomfortable when standing for too long still, but manageable.. do you use any creams like rectogesic?

Hi, that's great news your feeling better... I'm using dilate cream... I'm not on high doses but my stools are loose.. Only eating one meal a day as don't want to go to the loo more than once a day. My tear was significant so really hope it heals... The pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced and can't take strong pain killers as they constipate me.

I'm the same as you, nothing more than paracetamol which was useless. have you tried any hemorrhoid creams for the pain?? I found germoloids the best. my doc also prescribed instillagel a lidocaine numbing gel in a syringe which works well for some, I found it made my bottom burn though

Wi have the instillagel but it also stung for ages... I going to give the germoloids a try... Sore day today... When were you able to go back to work? Thank you for your support.

I haven't been able to work since February!! the fissure has ruled my life since then, I'm fortunate enough that I work in my family business so I have been able to take the time off then due to covid I wouldn't of been able to work anyway.. I'm looking to go back to work next week though! it's been a very depressing 5 months, everyday I am feeling better so im keen to find some normality. sorry to hear you had a bad day with pain. after BM it would take me to the evening before the pain and burn would subside. do try the germaloids I found it a life saver! are you not seeing any benefits from botox? I did find it took at least a month, and I find I'm number ever day. my surgeon said it should take 3-5wks before you feel the full effect of the botox. do you suffer hemorrhoids? can go hand in hand with a fissure. I had internal and external but found as they healed my fissure was less painful. also I find preparation H wipes fantastic you can get them on Amazon.. hope you have a better day today. X

Your story is exactly like mine.... Iv been off work now for 7 weeks... So depressing.... Yes I suffer from internal and external piles they are alwful also had a thrombosed pile... Haven't used any supps for the piles as that area is too sensitive. Iv got the prep h wipes which are great. I am definitely getting reliwf from the botox but still hving pain after bowel movement. Nothing compared to before but still effecting my life. Hopefully it heals as really don't want to have to get more botox.
