healing time after botox for anal fissure

Hi everyone!
So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.
Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?
Any advice truly appreciated!!

I am now almost 5 weeks post botox treatments and all I can say is if you are considering this option then do it! for me the botox has been a game changer. my BMs are pain free and no pain after!! I have now been able to stop that awful headache cream rectogesic after 5 long months and all the hemorrhoid creams I have been applying endlessly has now come to an end! I never thought I would say i am healing!! my head is slowly creeping back out from under the dark cloud I have been living under for months. so, here is a few tips I want to share in the hope I can help someone else... high grade coconut oil! buy it! apply before Bm and again after, once you have cleansed the area. warm baths, for 5 minutes on the hour if you can! avoid Epsom salts I found it aggravated things. eat as much fibre as you possibly can and aim for a minimum of 2ltr water daily. I also take 3 sachets of laxido daily and before bed I have 1 fruits and fibres regular tablet (I swear by these for soft stools).. good luck in your recovery guys and gals.

yes I found the cream burnt/stung on application for about an hour after. i gave up using it many times over the last 6 months as I worried it was making things worse. after I saw my surgeon he told me to keep using it regardless and I did. i did start to see results from using it after my botox so I'd advise to keep using!!

It's been 3 weeks since my botox injections and had blood in my stool today after a bm. I think I may have over did it today with some exercises I did plus push mowing the yard for a half hr. I'm starting to worry that even if my fissure does begin to heal, the botox may wear off before it gets a chance to heal completely. I have read it only lasts for 2-3 months. Even though there was bleeding today, the pain/discomfort after my bm's have gotten better since the botox has taken effect. I see the doctor again in 10 days. Once you received the botox, how long did it take until the appearance of blood stopped after bms?
On a side note, after reading so many painful and heartbreaking stories on here, I have realized what I have been dealing with is quite mild compared to what a lot of other people on here are experiencing. My heart and prayers go out to you all and hope you find some relief.

hi, hope your doing well. I didnt really have much bleeding from my bottom, few times maybe. though I know it is normal to have that for some time. I, like you am seeing some benefits. I have been doing very well until yesterday when I had a painful morning BM, the first i have had in a few weeks. I forgot to take my evening dose of laxatives and paid the price the following morning. thankfully pain wasnt at its worst but shows still not all is healed. I too can over do it some days, I have been running quite a bit this week and while it's good for my head my bottom wouldn't thank you for it!!! 😦

Sorry to hear about your setback. Sometimes I forget whether I took mine or not so I always take another to be sure. I figure it's better to double-up on them than not have one at all. I try to walk at least an hour each day and even though I would like to walk more, I have heard that exercise can help or hurt the condition of a fissure. Bleeding has always been my biggest problem. Before the botox, when I would have a bm and it wouldn't bleed, I typically didn't have any issues that day. The blood has been appearing more and more lately unfortunately. I still haven't given up hope that my fissure can start to heal and be gone by the time the botox wears off. Hope your condition gets back on the right track.

Hi, I had botox three weeks on Thursday. After 5 weeks of absolute agony... Not been able to leave my house, screaming in pain... Horrendous... After botox the pain was sore for about a week and then on the 2nd week I was getting out of bed and moving about a bit... I'm only really eating a piece of fruit in the am and a small dinner... Drinking lots of water. In the am I take lactulose and fybogel and wait... I then go to the loo which feels so strange, normally really soft and then have a bath for 30mins, lie in my bed and apply my creams... Sometimes ice pack. I take paracetamol, naproxen and gabapebtin in the am and I am doing OK. I had a small. Korma the other day and the wind was horrendous. I really struggle to pass wind and can only really pass wind when I sit on the loo... Iv had a few sore days but nothing like before... I also developed a thrombosed hameohorod a few days after the op which has been causing me pain again.. I think or is it the tear!! Gp started steriod cream for pile as I want to avoid another op... I'm really looking for postivie stories and help with the wind. I also want my life back, eat normally, snack and leave this house... Lol... My gp always reminds me that people never search or post about the successful stories... So let's hope we are one of them... My surgeon said I can go bck in 6 weeks for more botox if I need to... Not keen on the Lis as I already have a mild rectoceil prolapse and would be scared this could lead to a rectal prolapse.... Heal, heal, heal..

hi there,
I can relate as Ive had fissure now for a year.i got mine through child birth. i had one 5 years ago after my first child but managed to heal it through using rectogesic and diet within 6 months. this one however is not going away. i had botox 4 weeks ago and although im only having slight stinging while doing my bm.the pain afterwards for hours is so horrible.I try not to take painkillers but I always end up having to. im just curious you mentioned rectocele. my surgeon said after she gave the botox that she thought i could possibly have one . did you go to a gynaecologist to confirm you have one? and is it true that the surgery can make it worse? as im thinking im going to need the surgery at this point as Im becoming so depressed and cant carry on living like this.thanks

Hi, I'm so sorry your going through this... Its horrendous... My prolapse arrived after the birth of my 2nd baby and horrendous constipation... I new something was different down below and fought to be seen, was panned off as I had just had a baby... Eventually I Was seen by a gynae who said nope nothing there... I wouldn't examine me standing up... I have coped with it at home for 5 years now but after fissure and getting the botox the surgeon told me I had a rectoceil prolapse after the scope.... I will need surgery eventually but I will put it off for as long as possible... I make sure my bowels are fairly regular, I try and not lift anything to heavy and I do my kegel exercises... There is a great forum on fb for prolapses which is really informative. There is lots of different kinds. What do you think you have or feel??

Hi, I had botox now 4 weeks ago after suffering for 5 weeks with excurating pain with the tear. Been unable to work. I'm still in pain after having a BM... Can last for a hour to all day... I did think I would be further on than this.. Surgiens said he might see me again in the 6 week mark for more botox but not sure I want to go through it again.. I'm definitely better but still can't do much and it's getting a bit much and I'm getting down with it all... I'm talking paracetamol, naproxen and gabapentin... Iv also started coconut oil and cbd drops... I also take lactulose and fybogel x2 a day, light diet... Iv lost 2 stone... Which is a bonus.. Hope you are doing OK and please keep me updated on your progress... I am always searching for positive stories. My gp always tell me that people don't post the positive. X

Hi Pamela I noticed that you want to hear positive accounts.
My story is very similar to yours.
A year of fissure hell. Pain. Housebound.
Visits to a and e. Doctors. House calls. Painful botox.. Made it worse.
Thrombosed hemorrhoid omg.
I had LIS surgery and hemorrhoid excised in March.
Life changed. Better from day 1. Slowly got life back to now fully normal. Just take a little lactulose each day as I was previously constipated.
The surgery is nothing compared to the pain you have gone through.
It works.
Sending you best wishes and hope for a solution and recovery for you xx

Hi
I have had fissure for just over 6 months from when I give birth. Tried multiple ointments etc and zero relief.. I went for private consulation and was told it could cost up to 3000 for botox due to being put to sleep etc. The surgeon I seen was very understanding and sympathetic and transferred me to NHS and put me down as urgent, I got phone call maybe a week later from NHS to come in and have botox done. I had procedure done 9 weeks ago. Pain from botox was mostly bearable, less painful than I had prepared myself for it to be! My pain from fissure would begin when I first needed BM, the pain of actually passing BM I find incredibly sore, no matter what. Then after I would be in pin for a couple or hours with a sort of pulsing pain that I try manage with pain killers but they dont often work! The after pain has caused many sleepless nights/cancelled plans/strain on my parenting my new baby. BUT since my botox I would say my after pain has improved by about 60%. I very rarely take pain killers now. The worst bit for me is passing BM which the botox has not improved but I have a better mind set now knowing once its done, its done... I am to see surgeon again soon for check up, not sure what he will offer me I would hate to carry on much longer with the level of pain I have passing BM. But i am thankful for my improvement!

Having my second set of injections today as the first one only seemed to have healed half. I had instant relief the day following my first injection, spasms were rare after a month. Once the botox wore off, the symptoms returned but much less severe.
For anyone scared to get it done, just go for it. It's obviously uncomfortable, you may experience pain for a few days following, (or not, in my case), but it's absolutely nothing compared to living how you are.
If anyone needs a bit of a boost regarding botox or lis, just message me. We're all in the same boat.

Firstly, I am so sorry to read of so many people experiencing the same hell i've had with a fissure. I've had numerous operations / health issues over the years, but this saga has been horribly debilitating. I am 4 days post having my second round of botox injections after receiving my first round of botox in February. One question I have for anyone going through the healing phase is have you found the pain/sensation to ever disappear completely? I'm worried i'm expecting too much, but my consultant has led me to believe that it is possible to feel 'normal' again and be completely pain free. Whilst recovering from the first round of botox i did get to the stage where there was no bleeding and the pain lessened considerably, however I had a deep burning/gnawing sensation down the back of my left leg / left bum cheek which lingered the whole time. It's so hard to describe, but it almost feels like a nerve problem or like someone had punched me in the left bum cheek. Has anyone else experienced a similar pain / feeling? I'm not sure if its referred pain from the fissure, due to the procedure or due to me lying/sitting very uncomfortably for almost a year, but its still there after two rounds of botox. In addition, loose stools take me back to square one & I am at my wits end in regards to how to solve this. Like a lot of people these days, I've been told I have IBS & it has been a nightmare to manage. I have good weeks & bad weeks, but as soon as I hit a bad day & have even a hint of a lose stool the fissure pain is hell. Apparently I have a particularly deep fissure which could take multiple rounds of botox injections to heal, but i'm terrified that each episode of lose stool is going to send me back to the start again.
