healing time after botox for anal fissure

Hi everyone!
So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.
Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?
Any advice truly appreciated!!

Hi! Ive had my fissure for over a year. It took 3 botox sessions 8 weeks apart each to work. My fissure has not healed at all in over a year. I go now every 12 weeks for botox treatments. Im sorry you are going through this. This is my new normal. The doctors have me in laxatives everyday which allows my stool to he soft. You will get relief!!

I had a surgery 6 weeks ago with zero benefitthen saw another surgeon who recommended botox injections and anus expansion
I went for it 3 days ago and had sever pain after the surgery,I was given a dose of morphine and woke up next day with little pain and pressure down there with stinging pain from the needles I was very relieved
had constipation the first two days but managed well without much pain
it has been 3 days now i get very mild pain ,use no pain killers, but feel pressure and stinging pain when I wash with cold water, I take my time getting the area clean and use natural stuff to keep my stool soft
I take 3 spoons morning and 3 evening of karop syrup and have strict diet with fruit and fibre and I fill a bowl of warm water with 3 spoons of epsom salt and sit my bottom 20 minutes to relax the pressure temporarily
3 days on yet the pressure is not easing and the stinging is easing very slowly ,been resting since then but have to go back to work in 2 days
I hope my story can be of value and benefit to all you poor sufferers of this horrible condition
good luck

Hi and greetings from Finland. I've suffered of fissures during last 25 years. It takes normally 1-3 months to recover, but this year has been a nightmare. I have had fissure since January. My botox treatment was 2 weeks ago and the spasm problem has been clearly improved, but sore pain is still there every day after stool. My doctor said me that botox should start to impact for the spasm immediately, but sore recovery takes it time. The doctor advised me to take fiber twice per day, but it was too tough for me and went back to lacsatives. I read today an interesting study made on 2006 and according to it best result will be achieved by using botox and nitroclysrerine treatment, so I decided to start to use Rectogesic again even though it's causing me a terrible headache. I try to drink min 2 l water every day, eat healthy food and lacsative 3 times per day.

Hi
Im really hoping someone can help. Im a 40 yr old male, Ive been suffering for the last 6 months with fissure like symptoms, except that the pain is higher up, possibly in my rectum. At times I get a sharp stinging pain (like a cut), at others a constant sore feeling. Im at my witts end! Ive been prescribed nitro gts ointment (the one that relaxes the muscle), my stools are soft, I have plenty of fibre, I walk daily, but it just wont go away, and over the past few weeks has got worse. I was sitting working the other day and I felt the sting, and ever since Ive been in discomfort. Fortunately I have an appointment booked in with a specialist in Jan (my first face to face appointment due to covid).
i just wondered whether anyone else has had this, and what are their coping mechanisms. And most importantly what can i do to heal and for pain relief?
Best wishes
Andrew

hi Andrew your symptoms sound just how mine where. on inspection i had a large fissure quite high up into my rectum. also found where polyps which too caused pain. I suffered for a year with awful burning and pain. passing stools was torture. it made me depressed, fearful of the bathroom.. I too took all the creams but they didnt help to begin with. after going to A&E with the worst pain I have ever known I then had botox under anaesthetic that same day. after a very uncomfortable week the botox worked great and allowed me to heal well. on inspection again under anaesthetic 3 months after the botox it was seen that my fissure had 90% healed, well until the surgeon reopened it due to the dialation for inspection. I wasnt given anymore botox as it was felt my body was healing well.. so here we are 15 months from when all this began and I can now say my fissure is healed!! I wont lie I have been left with an awful fear of using the toilet and I still use laxitives, but I am on the right track!! all I would say is if offered botox take it it is worth the initial pain and discomfort

my pain relief tips are this... sit in warm water as often as you possibly can.. I did this for 10 minutes every hour. I used rectogesic after bowel movement, make sure you put the cream about 1 inch into your back passage if you can manage( I understand everything is very uncomfortable down there) it does make a big difference!! my surgeon advised that and it mad a big difference to healing. I also to 40ml milk of magnesium before bed. it was he only laxitive to make my stools like water. anything more than that aggravates the wound. I also used germaloids triple action cream I found it the best. oh and eat as many vegetables as you can handle and flood yourself with water as your doing.

Hello
I'm in the same boat .. suffering badly for the past 2 years, it's been 3 weeks since my op for fissures. I had botox for a chronic posterior anal fissure and an acute anterior fissure and a second degree haemorrhoids. It's been a journey, had two weeks of bed rest, the first week was very painful but then things started to improve on that front, then last week felt alot better to the point where I was feeling very confident about things improving . However in the past three days I have been having issues again and really worried that I'm back to square one. Trying hard to relax, but back on paracetamol and using ice after a BM. Going to have to contact my doctor again and ask for advice. This id the first forum I have ever joined, it's been very helpful reading everyone's comments ...Focusing hard on my diet and trying to do everything right ... I'm trying to be hopeful.

Hello everyone,
my situation is a bit different, i have had anal botox injections not for a fissure but for my anal muscle to relax, long story!! I've been having women's health physio which really helped and i was nearly back to normal but they thought having botox injections would help to relax the muscle further to speed things up as i've been suffering with this for 16 months, not been able to sit with out pain and couldn't sit at all for 10 months, its been horrific!! Any way i had the procedure done on the 21st of December 5 weeks ago and have been in agony, i did not have this pain before i went in. i was told by the surgeon that there would not be much pain or painful bowl movements. that has not been my experience at all, I'm still in a lot of pain and am back to not being able to sit. I haven't been able to speak to the surgeon yet, waiting to have a phone appointment as due to covid they wont see me face to face. my question is, is this normal to be in this much pain after the injections? i was expecting maybe a week but not 5 and I'm no where near recovered. I can't Believe I'm still recovering from the procedure!! it was just injections!! If anyone knows i would be very grateful, I'm really struggling as I'm unable to take pain killers as well so i've had no pain relief what so ever!
Many thanks
J

Botox didn't help my fissure back in 2015. I finally got the LIS in October 2020 and the fissure is totally healed. Botox is not a permanent solution. Once it wears off you could be right back to fissure hell. I had another issue at the same time in 2015 that compounded the problem. It turned out to be a muscle spasm in the rectal area that eventually became chronic. I felt like I was sitting on a golf ball even on a soft couch! It was miserable. Finally I left my job in 2016 and the spasm issue disappeared!
It was from stress at work!
The fissure issue remained for years and I lived with it. I look back and wonder why I put up with it but I did. The pain was not always constant, but many times it would be absolutely unbearable.
I finally had to do the LIS because I was straining to go every time and I was scared I could have big problems with a hernia (which I think I already gave myself) and an anuerism. My sphincter was so tight they said I could crack a walnut in it. I did an anal manometry test which confirmed that. I was off the charts too strong. The LIS fixed EVERYTHING. NO more fissure, NO more pain. 6 years of suffering OVER!!!

I had fissure on and off for 10 years. Then 6 mnths ago it got seriously worse. Excruciating pain that made me cry and groan. Had to lie down for hours. I was taking Tramadol and Naproxen which just about made it possible to cope with pain but after 3 months of this I had Botox injections in hospital. Pain better straight away but I've still needed painkillers since but slowly reduced. Also using diltiazem ointment but 3 months after op I'm afraid it still hurts to go to toilet- just not as bad. I've found it difficult to get bowel movements right and had upset stomach. Review with docs in a couple of weeks. So I'd definitely recommend botox but recovery is slow and it feels like 1 step forwards, 2 back sometimes. I just hope I don't get that level of pain again- I had bad sciatica once but this was much worse! And I'm a fit and healthy 50 year old-but I do think stress can cause it.
