healing time after botox for anal fissure

Hi everyone!

So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.

Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?

Any advice truly appreciated!!

    Hi all

Im interested to know if any of the botox users had fecal incontinence? Im so worried to go down that rd with some of the stories i have read, im just wondering how likely it is to happen to me. Is it worth the risk? My doc hasn't really explained much to me even though i have had 4 clinic visits and 1 operation so far with this specialist that isnt cheap

I got the botox injection 6 days ago. Since than, I have a bad burning pain after every bowel movement for a good hour or so.I use the bathroom atleast 2-3 times a day. Is there any cream or anything that would help relieve some of that pain? Im willing to try just about anything at this point.

Diltiazem 2% works wonders, try it if you haven't already. Best of luck.

How long does the burning last?? I’m glad you mentioned that cause I was worried it was a fresh fissure or something

A couple of week at the most but each person of different just make sure you drink lots of water and eat fibre. Constipation is to be avoided at all costs. Use haemorrhoid cream to sooth the burning till you fully recover.

    Hello all

I had the Botox and banding x2 the 8th March. I now have what I think are external piles, or just swelling?! It is sore after a bm but no where near the agony of the fissure at its worst. Wasn't told or wasn't paying enough attention post op to know what to expect? Perhaps there's no set reaction. I do know that this was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I've lost work, sleep and have been short with the kids that I love to bits.

Impossible to explain the misery of this condition to your loved ones.

Don't know what to expect in the immediate future?! Have changed my diet with even more fruit and bloody awful bran for breakfast. We have a holiday booked to the US in 3 weeks and I dread taking this with me.

    Bless you all

I’ve had both and am about a week ahead of you on the Botox.

First of all the banding. You should be fine in three weeks. You’ve got a few difficult times in between though. But keep on with the softeners and loads of water.

With regards to the Botox. I’m struggling still, but I know a few who have been fine after three weeks. So good luck there. Again keep on with the water and softeners.

      Sincerest good luck.

    Hi All,

I just made an account to try and help people out and tell my story. I've been suffering from an anal fissure for 8 months now and just had the Botox done today. As many of you have mentioned, it is supposed to take around 3 weeks to start noticing results (Google tells you the science). I will try to keep you updated, but I mainly came on here to give my tips for pain relief.. Right before I have a BM I use coconut oil around exterior directly and then KY jelly inside (these help a lot). Then I immediately run a warm bath with a scoop of coconut oil mixed in. Then I use coconut oil directly again when I get out (very soothing and also healing properties) then I get comfy on the couch (I try and pick a night where I don't have much to do) and use a kettle to fill a hot water bottle and lay on it with a towel over top until the heat isn't enough anymore and I remove the towel and keep filling it up throughout the night (I lay on it until I'm in too much pain then I get up and walk around a bit until I'm in pain from that then go back to the hot water bottle and repeat all night) I also have an ointment the Dr gave me (it has nefidipine and lidocaine and in it). I use that a couple times directly and then wipe off and use the coconut oil and alternate. T3's definitely help, but I don't like taking them because they make me drowsy the next day. I read the coconut oil thing on a forum and it really does help. The routine is a lot, but I'm used to it now and I'm still in a ton of pain for 8 to 12 hours after a BM, but when I don't do the routine I'm screaming in pain, almost in tears and can't even think. Best of luck to everyone and feel free to ask me anything.

It's a long an hard road ahead. I too suffered from anal fissures. The botox I got too, it was a total waste of time for me. 5 days out of the 7 wks i had relief. After bm i would suffer for atleast 2 to 3 hrs. sitz bath all the time and still pain. I was scared to even eat anything. Everyone is different though with recovery. I was scared to get the surgery, but i gave in an had the surgery exactly 2 weeks ago. The first 10 days were terrible, excruciating pain worse than before surgery. but the 4 days since has been extremely encouraging. Minor pain after bm is slowly going away. Im starting slowly to feel back to normal. But the main thing I've learned is take it 1 day at a time. Its been 2 yrs, but the last 6 months its been the worst of feeling in pain and mentally draining. I hope the botox works for you. Take sitz bath after every bm.. it does help a little.

      Hi Kovy:

Thanks so much for your post. I am curious to hear how you are feeling now over 2 weeks post Botox? I am at day 11 and still have pain and spasms for hours after BMs. In fact I feel worse than before the procedure.

I use the coconut oil and I agree it certainly helps. I have also started back to using dialitizem ointment a couple of days ago.

As we can all attest to, this condition is a NIGHTMARE. I have been dealing with this for about 6 months but it really became unmanageable with diet, baths, etc about 2 months ago. I didn’t want to go straight to surgery given the risks, although small.

I was about to give up and call the Botox a fail but it seems it takes some people longer to feel the effects than others so I am holding out hope 🤞🤞🤞

      Thanks, Vuki

Hi everyone I stumbled across this site and was surprised I am not alone with this.  I had botox in April and it was a pretty painful experience.  I’ve had so many issues and it was a GI Nurse that referred me to colorectal surgery who said I had an anal fissure.  Sitz baths do help the pain but I’m concerned that maybe something else is wrong because I am seeing blood again in my stool and on the toilet paper.  My 6 week follow up is in June so I don’t know what the surgeon will recommend if anything.  This has bothered me for a long time as I’ve had other symptoms like abdominal pain.  I’ve had a colonoscopy, an upper endoscopy and two CT scans and they can’t tell me what’s causing this.  I saw a GI doctor on Rachel Ray who demonstrated the correct way to have a bowel movement he said we are supposed to lean forward and our feet should be elevated up on something.  I remember seeing this thing called a squatty potty on Shark Tank and I ran to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy one.  I felt silly at first use but I admit, it does make pooping a lot easier because it prevents straining.  I do recommend the sitz baths to relieve pain. I agree this is a long road and It has been emotionally draining.

      Hey Ebby,

I sincerely hope they get to the bottom of this for you (pardon the pun) and that you find some relief, peace and comfort soon.

I too bought one of those squatty potties on Amazon. It takes some getting used to and positioning is important. I found you have to keep your back straight to really benefit. It does work though. The other thing to avoid is too much lingering on the toilet. I think many people do this and don’t realize how much damage they’re doing in the process. It’s apparently okay to wait maybe about 5 minutes or so but long stretches on the porcelain throne will lead to problems such as hemorrhoids because of the pressure you place on the area. Honestly, I now believe every GP should be providing some guidance to people about the proper way to poop, fibre intake and told to never ever strain! It could save a lot of butts in future.

I also agree this takes an emotional/psychological toll on you.

I wish you all the best with your recovery.

      Vuki
