healing time after botox for anal fissure

Posted , 143 users are following.

Hi everyone!

So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.

Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?

Any advice truly appreciated!!

    My story :-

So I firstly experienced a fissure 13 years ago after my second child. I had BOTOX and gone! Then out of the blue in April this year I notice an external pile. Not painful just hideous. Dr prescribed me some steroid suppository and it disappeared. Two weeks later my sphincter tightens up and I struggle to have a bowel motion. Another trip to the gp at which may I add (are fantastic) more cream this time rectogesic and some Laxido over a small amount of time this starts to worsen so I revisit my gp who gives me more meds. I am now at this point climbing the walls and my rectum has gone into spasm. My doctor sends me to A and E who send me home with oramorph and glycerine suppositories !! On a bank holiday. ( how am I supposed to insert these in a rectum that is shut tight) so I revisit my gp on the Tuesday 4 days later still in the same position who arranges for me to see a colorectal surgeon. He books me in for the BOTOX for the next morning.

Next morning arrives I have the BOTOX and a stretch under General anaesthetic. Come around and they send me home. This was on Wednesday. I fly to Spain on the Sunday on a family vacation. I suffer the whole 11 days with spasms, burning, pressure, cramps. Sweats. I returned home and revisited my gp who 're referred me to the colorectal surgeon. I have just had another 50 units of BOTOX following the 80 units 2 weeks ago. I am now feeling Much better. If I have to go through this again. I am opting for the internal spincterectomy. For definite.

I have been suffering from anal fissure for the past 5 years. Tried all types of home remedies, cream, sitz baths, complete change in diet, nothing worked.

Finally doctor gave me 2 solutions the botox and LIS. Opted the botox and got it done 2 days ago with 150 dose . Pain was terrible but have recovered. Still feel the pain when I have a Bm. I also have IBS which makes things worse. What I want to know is the type of stool everyone here is experiencing or experienced after the botox. My first time had blood but not after that. Is it bits and pieces or Diarrhoea? Thanks if someone can help

I still have discomfort from a external pile or swelling on a daily basis but by comparison with the fissure it's nothing. It's the fear and anxiety it leaves you with that is a real problem. Every bm is worrying and you can feel yourself tense up and there's nothing you can do.

Diet is the key I think. Bran with dried fruit and a banana to start the day. More fruit and avoiding all the heavy meals.

Keep sharing your thoughts, it does help to know you are not alone!

      Hi John and all,

It really does help to know that one is not alone in this. I just had the botox shot a couple of days ago... I am still in pain but when the pain subsides it is okay ( pain last for a couple of hours after a bm ) that evening of the injection was Hell. To find people who understand is making me cry with relief because it can be a very isolating experience that really takes its toll on you. I have had the fissure for a little bit over a year. I have had them before and they have healed but this one is a charmer, let me tell you. Right now, I hope the botox shot will work, as I am still pretty sore from the whole experience and I thought I was doing better on the nitroglycerine but it seems the botox takes some time for some people and I seem to be one of those people. All I really wanted to say to everyone was THANK YOU for posting, I know what it feels like and I wish everybody going thru this a speedy recovery with as little discomfort as possible.

      Hello mate

Don’t know if you are in the UK.

Diet is key. Bran and fruit, plenty of water and veggies.

It’s a terrible thing to go through.

      All the best!

      John

Hello, I had Botox yesterday and I’m having severe pain after attempting firstBM... I am so miserable and do not know what to do… I was supposed to fly out this morning for a three week trip back east and had to cancel… How long does this pain last… I can’t imagine being on an airplane feeling this way...

Is nice to know that I’m not the only one… I am in so much pain and uncomfortable and afraid to go to the bathroom… I want to take a Xanax, but not sure if that will make things worse by constipating me… Does anyone know?

Hi Cindy, I do not know what the side effects of Xanax are but if you get constipated by using them, I would try to refrain, but if one would be okay to ease your pain, I don't see how that would cause too much constipation. I just took a prescription painkiller and constipation can be an issue so I take it only when it gets unbearable (like now) a sitz bath does offer some relief, as do witch hazel wipes used as a compress. I don't know how long the pain will last but it seems that it takes a while for the process of healing to settle in, so to speak. hang in there. wishing you the best.

Hi Cindy, it can take a little while for the pain to ease. Did you have a general anasethic when you had your botox? That can constipated so be careful. I did take oramorph after mine. My first lot of BOTOX I had on a Wednesday 80 units and then flew to Spain on the Sunday. Unfortunately I would be in pain most bowel movements for the 10 days away. I returned home and had to have another dose of 50 units. That seemed to do the trick. See how it goes over the week and a y concerns contact your consultants secretary. If taking pain relief take Sodium docusate and Laxido. I also take 2 aloe Vera colon cleanse they keep my bowels regular. I am not a medical professional this is just my personal comment xxx all the best .

Take a pain killer if necessary. Offset it by having a banana and a drink. You can buy a powder laxative in the states called Miralax or something close to that.

Have a couple of small spoonfuls each evening to keep a movement as easy as poss.

Start the day with bran and fruit.

Avoid stodgy stuff like bread. Salads are the way to go.

Completely understand your misery. It will get better.

      Sending love.

For me, the botox was a waste of money. I had the fissure at this time last year. i had had it for a year or 2. It got unbearable last dec. This past March I got botox. I had relief for a week. Other than that i was in pain. I barely ate cause I was afraid to use bathroom. I lost 35 lbs. I gave in, had the surgery in may, on my bday, best move I ever made. It took almost 6 to 8 weeks to recover, and not the 2 weeks the dr said. But i feel great now. Best decision. Being in pain 24 hours a day is miserable. I hope you feel better soon.

       Hi Joe,

what surgery did you have? And how are you feeling now… I had Botox one week ago today and still have pain when going to the bathroom.....How long is this going to last?

I had the surgery where they cut the muscle partially to relieve the pressure put on the fissure. After the 2 plus months after botox, i was still in pain all the time. Got the surgery in may, About 6 weeks after the surgery I was pain free. 4 months later and I feel great. No pain. Everyone is different. I didnt want to spend all that money on more botox when both doctors I saw told me it wouldn't work. I really do hope u find some type of relief. I tried everything and nothing worked for me.
