healing time after botox for anal fissure

Posted , 143 users are following.

Hi everyone!

So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.

Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?

Any advice truly appreciated!!

It seems that for each person the results are a bit different so it is hard to guide. I would talk with your doctor and ask for his best advice. I hope it works for you, you do need to give it time. It might be a more painful for a time or not but it does seem to help. it helped me, though the beginning was painful ( a couple of weeks ) . However that does not mean it will be painful for you. all in all the fissure I had took a couple of years to heal but it has healed. wishing you all the best.

Hi guys. Merry Christmas. I had fissure treatment (botox) and skin tag removed 12 weeks ago.

Still in pain after bm and for 5 hours after so am still not back at work.

Just wondered if anyone could help.

So the skin tag seems to still be there somewhat, like a little bit and that is what is hurting to sit down, walk fast and go to the toilet. Has it not been removed properly?

I think the fissure has healed.

Any response would be gratefully received xxx

I don't know what to say but I would give it more time. Talk to your doctor if you can, do as much as you can to find relief from the pain and discomfort. It is a very difficult thing to go thru.

Thanks. Just heartbroken as I thought it was healing. Do you think it's worth calling my own doctor? I was just going to wait to my supposed 'final' appointment with the surgeon as he knows the situation. Thanks anyway, happy new year! X

I think poppyooo it depends on how much pain you are in but if you are uncomfortable I would try and talk to you doctor plus the surgeon. it is a very painful experience but I have found that one does heal with time. the thing is you want to make sure you are not infected and healing, so that is why I say talk to a doctor. no one can fully describe the amount of pain and discomfort while going thru this. I screamed more times than I care to admit. it is a lonely process because people do not understand if they have never gone thru it. it is also heartbreaking because it is so uncomfortable to deal with. be strong. we who have suffered are holding your hand. I did find witchhazel wipes to be soothing when after a bowl movement and cleaned, I would stuff one between the buttocks. I did not care that I had a bit of wet spot because anything that helped soothed the pain was welcomed. I got rid of a lot of inhibitions in that regard. I also took motrin to help with the pain. all the best, it will get better. the body does want to heal- keep that in mind because it can seem so impossible when we are going thru it.

whag I find odd is surely if you have a fissure when you go for a number 2 it should hurt whilst doing it

mine seems to happen after I have done my business and at random hours of the day .

consultant said to me last week that its early days

when people do a number 2 surely we need to do a little pushing to get it out.? otherwise if we sat on the toilet and it cane out without us pushing there is an issue ?,

I know the diff between straining and pushing and straining is where I would have to make funny faces and literally push like a woman giving birth . however now I dont . I literally contract my stomache and abs and then push the first one out and then the rest flows nicely

I just wrote a whole history...and it went poof! so my main question is while going through this horrendous pain after bowel movements...does this last through the whole 3 months of this botox, or does it ease up. I had my injections of kenalog and botox on Dec. 16th, 2019. This pain is so intense, I'm floored. I have a routine to stop them, but they have never been this bad, nor has it been this hard to get stool out. I go through this twice a day now. Does anyone know if this

pain thing gets lighter as the botox is in there, or is it like this the whole time? I have never been through this kind of pain in my life. I have no life, I've been going through being mis diagnosed for 2 1/2 years...seeing colorectal surgeons...not until I saw a urogynecologist did he finally find the problem, scar tissue on internal spinchter due to aggressive hemorrhoid banding. So some one please tell me this gets better with time, cause it is very devastating to go through!!! Best wishes to all on here...no one would have a clue how hard this is, I wish a doctor would get it, so they would really know! I feel very in the dark, it's lonely, and i feel like i live in the dark ages...we can

put a man on the moon, but really have crummy ways of dealing with this. My best in healing to all!!!

Omg you poor thing. I feel your pain.

I've had fissure for 1 year, with many days like the pain you described.

I'm only 1 week after botox at the moment. I had intense pain for the first 2 days, following bms. went to hospital due to the pain and they gave me lidocaine gel. It's a local anaesthetic. I've had the cream before but the gel is so much better. Basically a cure for the pain. I'm still using it after each bm.

Feel sore but don't mind that as I've suffered the pain previously.

You must get lidocaine gel. I just got 2 more prescribed yesterday so ask your gp.

Also I've had the problems passing stools you mentioned.

I take lactulose morning and night. And 3 or 4 dulcoease daily. Stomach gets a bit bubbly, and smelly when I go to loo, but it's worth it as stools pass easily. Hence causing less stress, damage and pain.

Have you tried laxatives and softeners.

Also plums, apricots, grapes and water. Soup and veg!

    hi everyone

ive had a fissure for about 3 years which never healed with normal treatments but it never caused me any pain (not the norm i know and sorry) it just looked unsightly and bled occasionally.

i got a biopsy and botox a week ago and felt fine after apart from bleeding when wiping for a day after. now the botox has kicked in i am really struggling to be able to tell if i have wind or need to poo which is stressful when not at home. Is this normal and does it pass?

despite being vegan and eating lots of veg my stools have been quite small and firm. after reading this forum i will get some softeners so thanks

i know im lucky compared to all the people on here that have had pain but any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi kev I think your fissure is a bit different to people on here, as you can see it and don't have pain. Personally mine is inside and the worst pain I've ever felt.

I had botox 3 weeks ago and I know what you mean about the wierd feeling. It's always wind with me but yes it does feel awkward.

As you are already eating the veg I'd say fruit with stones... Apricots plums cherries etc. Laxatives and softeners and lots and lots of water too.

Hope you are getting on OK.

the botox for me was extremely painful but at the end of the day I do believe it helped with the healing. I understand your pain. Keep the faith- the body wants to heal- this takes a lot of time but it will heal. Unless someone has experienced this, no one understands the amount of pain one feels after a b.m. - it is the worst thing I have ever gone thru, not to mention the probing in that area while having a fissure or piles, by the doctor. I did find putting a witch hazel wipe with aloe vera ( prep H wipes ) helped greatly with easing the discomfort and being as squeaky clean in that area as humanly possible.

      Hi linz

My story is almost identical to yours. I had the botox in January. It was painful at first but by week 3 I was a bit better. You're right about the diet, I can only suggest fruit, veg, soft food and stool softeners. Also at least 2 litres of water a day.

I am now 8 weeks past botox.

It didn't heal sadly so I have a date for the lateral internal sphincterotomy operation. I'm scared, but after reading posts on here I'm hopeful of finally healing.

Day to day at the moment I can only lie down, nothing much else.

      How are you doing now?

      Any better since you posted?

Hi. I have Botox scheduled for next week. You mentioned 2 months back that Botox hadn't helped and you had a date for LIS.

Did you get LIS done and did it help? Hope you are feeling better now. Please let me know how you are feeling. I am scheduled for Botox but I am still deciding between Botox and LIS.

Also did you wait for 12 weeks after Botox to get LIS done? Or did you do it immediately after 8 weeks,

      Thank you.

Hope you are feeling better now. Did the Botox finally help? And how long did it take to come into effect?

you also mentioned that Botox negatively impacted your BM? Did that change?

I have scheduled Botox next week but I am not sure if I should do Botox or LIS. I also have muscle spasms in the anal area due to the fissure due to which I can't sit at all. I can't even stand or walk for more than 10 mins and can't lie down straight. It is very depressing.

      Thanks.

Hi Sk, I am totally better, after going to hell and back with this.

Although I still take laxatives, eat the right foods and raise feet when using bathroom.

I had no relief from the botox. I went 8 weeks later for the LIS surgery. I was totally desperate by then. My husband and mum phoned the hospital twice to get the date brought forward for me.

The LIS was very successful. It was uncomfortable afterwards, but not painful. I didn't need much pain relief.

It was a steady recovery, I took it slowly, looking after my body. I've been walking every day during lock down and built from nothing to over 4 miles!

I hope your treatment is successful for you.

I was too far gone for the botox but it might work well for you.

I hope you find some relief from this hideous affliction xx

      Hi there,

I'm just looking for some positive advice please. I'm at my wits end at the point. I got my fissure after having my daughter a year ago.i also got one after the birth of my son 5 years ago but I managed to heal that within 6 months with diet and rectogesic. this time has been hell and relentless. I went for botox 4 weeks ago but im actually worse than before. I cry every day. Im mentally being broke down. I snap.I have no interest in doing the things I normally do. I think I will need the surgery but Im also afraid of incontinence? I cant get in contact with my surgeon as Im public and Im told I wont get a follow up phone call review until November now.I feel I can't go on much more with having a breakdown. Ive already had a stressful year as my daughter was born deaf and our wedding was cancelled which is now booked for next April but i feel like cancelling now again because I wont be fixed. please if you can send me your experience that would be great. what you eat also.i try to eat lots of fibre and 2 litres of water every day. thank you .Corrina

Hi Corrina I totally understand everything you say, I have felt exactly the same physically and mentally. It destroys your life.

But you can recover from this. I have.

I was also worse after the botox.

I would say push and push for the surgery. Phone your surgeon / consultant.

Go to GP often. Phone 111. Go to A and E if you are suffering.

All these things count towards possible moving surgery forward.

I haven't suffered incontinence... I gave 3 kids all natural birth.. One at 40 years. Sometimes pass wind a bit but who cares compared to the pain of a fissure!!

My tips are drink lots and lots of water, take lactulose and dulcosoft. Eat lots of fruit... Plums, cherries, peaches, melon etc. Limit cake, bread, pastry. Try not to eat large amounts of food. Use a foot stool for loo, lean forward and take deep breaths.

Don't worry about the surgery it saved me, I hope you can get it as soon as possible xxx

Anything else you want to know just ask xxx

      Best wishes xxx
