Heavy headed, feeling woozy and off balance

I started off with dizziness and sickness I couldn't even walk without falling over. Now I'm constantly heave headed and feeling woozy snd off balance when I walk or stand up. When I lie down its heavy on my head too and I feel sickly. I've been to ent and they say it's nothing to do with my ear although I have got tinitus in m6 right ear and hearing loss for 3 years now. I'm waiting for an appointment with the nurologist in 3 weeks time. I just want something to be done im really fed up and on sick from work. HELP anyone?

I think I addressed this discussion ? Michelle if the doctor did the Epley they must believe it is BPPV ! I've had the Epley and as you it made me extremely ill and vommiting for days on end so after the 4th time they decided to see a real doctor who specialises in vertigo and he sent me to Sydney which took two planes and over two thousand kms to get there and they put me in the Omniac Chair ( only two in Australia) best thing they have ever done and I have most of my balance back no more vertigo  and my life back after 5 months of being home bound! Google Omniac Chair ! Can't say enough of what that chair did for me and if you have BPPV and I. uK??? There must be one somewhere I would travel - I would buy a ticket across the world if I had to of!

Omg donna that's brilliant ☺. Don't think I'll be lucky enough to be sent all that way from UK. But bppv doesnt say the symptoms that I've got I feel woozy, head feels heavy and I feel off balance all the time. I'm on betahistine dihydrochloride 3 times a day.

Michelle just read your reply - feeling woozy, photophobic, swaying , rocking, brainfog etc etc it all varies ! For the Sydney trip will I live in Australia and good chance you have one or two in England ! I know America has 6 Omniac chairs and Australia has 2 ! Good luck 😳

I've been suffering with my balance for over seven years affected my left side Flicking in my left eye when walking I just feel like I'm walking on sponges you said you feel sticky l get that as well my hands and feet, ENT told me it was because I have a weak balance system in my ear do you feel cold inside? I can not stop shaking especially when I do vestibular rehabilitation. I do not have the spinning sensations just off balance.
    • Posted

I did have the spinning sensation but that's eased off now. I do feel quite cold inside too sometimes but I shake quite a lot. I just feel like im constantly rocking on a boat it's awful and pressure in my head feels heavy.

Have you tried vestibular rehabilation exercise look on YouTube it might help you. When I went to physio she told me to stand on the spot with my eyes closed and count to 30 then get a cushion, stand on it with your eyes closed and count to 30. It helped with the swaying feeling by doing it twice a day. But now I feel like the chair moves when I sit down.
    • Posted

No one not tried that Victoria ill have a look on you tube ☺. Oh so its helped with swaying feeling when standing and walking but it's worse when your sitting down?

Give it a go keep it up every day. I don't like Turning my head to the left.l have trouble when walking changing surface,e,g, tile to carpeting. It's called equilibrium look it up. How do you feel when you are walking. I'm getting a pulsating feeling across my shoulder and in my legs.

I don't like turning my head to the right it feels funny. I feel strange when im walking it feelsoke someone is pushing me and I have a heavy head and like im rocking on a boat. To top it off I now have ear ache in my gpod ear.

      Hi Michelle

I had pressure, pain and plugging in both ears and felt as though i was being pushed from the back of my head. I felt unsteady all the time and had a very sore neck and headaches. My head felt foggy, my eyes were blurry and i felt anxious about not being in control of my body.

Been there....done that....takes nerves of steel and a lot of patience to get through it.

You WILL get better!! It just takes TIME!

Thanks Debbie its been over 5 weeks ive been like this now. Did you take any medications to help? I was a lot worse at the start was been sick and couldn't walk the dizziness was really bad.

I have same feeling like I'm being pulled to the left it's affecting my good ear. When I seen the EnT he told me to stand on the spot with my eyes closed with my arms out straight March on the spot count to 50 I opened my eyes i turned to the left he said I've got a weak balance system he sent me for physio. You should try it if you got a weak balance system you should turn to the right are you having physio
    • Posted

Yeah i did that too when I saw ENT they told me to march on the spot and asked me to walk in a straight line too with my eyes closed. No I'm not seeing a physio no one's asked me too but I think I need too.
    • Posted

. He should have sent you for physio Because it will not get any better. In the end I paid private to see EnT. He told me that I've got vestibular neuritis. He going to send me to heartlands hospital birmingham.I started to get blurred vision and cold hands and feet how do you feel?
    • Posted

I have good and bad days. I feel heavy headed, off balance when I walk feel like im constantly drunk and rocking on a boat. I do have days when I do feel better and things seem better.
    • Posted

I went to a vestibular rehab therapist. He gave me exercises to do to help my brain compensate for the loss of balance in my left ear. It helped loads.
    • Posted

I was referred by my ent. I live in Canada though...not sure where you're from?
    • Posted

Good luck for Friday I hope they can find out what's wrong.what hospital you going to?
    • Posted

They told me I've got bppv but my symptoms are different. Going to leed's hospital where I live
    • Posted

I live in Wolverhampton do you go funny when lying in bed when you turn to the right or when you are just standing up?
    • Posted

I did go really funny but not so much now ad I use a v-neck pillow and another pillow on top so I'm not lying as flat which helps.
    • Posted

Physiofitleeds is where you need to go...they do vestibular rehab there. You'll get the exercises you need to feel better!

Just a question: Did you recently have quite a bit of stress in your life? New baby? A marriage?

      Cheers, Debbie

Not feeing to good today feel reel cold inside.when I went to see the physio she said that the exercises would not work for me now cause my brain is trying to compensate. I'm going to see a specialist higher than her in another hospital. I always feel like the chair is rocking. Did you try the exercises?
    • Posted

Because the first ent doctor i saw told me to stop the exercises. He kept saying it was my eyes. Then said it was my ears, I've had 3 mark scans, a ct scan and seen 3 neurologists. One said when it started it was a hormonal imbalance, the second one said the brain is a funny thing.... and the third said its ears. I've paid private to see another ent and said it was my ears. So if I carried on with the exercises I wouldn't be in this position. So I'd recommend you trying physio as I've suffered it for 7 years. I was also told not to take medication for it

      Hi Midhchelle was it today

u went too see a norology I hope everything went well for you x

    • Posted

Had my nurology appointment today. The doctor said to ween me of the tablets as they stop the signal so your brain doesn't recover. He thinks I'm got memiers an inner ear condition which causes intense vertigo. He said it's defiantly a balance n ear problem. He's going to try get my appointment forward for MRI scan and he's getting me physio and I have home exercises to do. He was really lovely and helpful today.

Hi Michelle sorry I did not get back to you last night I was not feel to

    • Posted

Not to good, i've started the exercises again.l was told to stop exercises

By the EnT the physio said it was the wrong thing to do because

I was doing will. Have you started your exercises?

I was told to do them 5 time a day

    • Posted

Yeah started mine last night. I wasn't told to do them 5 times a day though. It says in my execsise book to do them 2 to 3 times a day. I'm quite scared about coming off these betahistine tablets but they aren't good for me the doctor said 😕. I felt a whole lot worse before I started on these tablets. Are you in uk victoria?
    • Posted

It's ok I've just seen you live in Wolverhampton lol
    • Posted

Yes the doctor is right when it all started the physio told me stop

Taking them you will be all right. What exercises book have you got

      ?

    • Posted

Do you think ill be ok on no medications? It's vestibular rehabilitation exercises. What exercises are you on?
    • Posted

I was on it for 6 months your might feel a bite funny

First few days you will be alright. The physio told me to sit on a chair

Bring your index finger approximately 10 inches in front of your nose or use

A point on the wall.focus on your finger while turning

your head side to side. Gradually increase the speed of the head the

Point should not jump. Repeat 15,20 times DO both 2,3 times daily

Side to side and up and down. I hope this will help

    • Posted

Yeah I've got that exercise in my book they gave me. I've got 10 exercises all together to do. Sitting and standing ones. How you feeling today?
    • Posted

I feel like the chair is moving up and down its my brain trying to compensate

How do you feel after doing your exercises?

    • Posted

    • Posted

I started with tinitus 3 years ago. Then 6 weeks ago I went to bed laid on my bad ear and this spinning was really bad and i started been sick and couldn't walk. Then after a few days I could get out of bed. Then I was dizzy every time I did certain movements and now I have constant heavy head swaying feeling like lm on a boat.
    • Posted

Just the same as yesterday have you stopped your medication? If you don't hear anything about your physio in a month get in touch with a neurologist because I've had referrals lost
    • Posted

Yeah stopped my medication now. Okay I will do. I was hoping to go back to work on Tuesday not sure ill be able too.
    • Posted

    • Posted

That's really strange to be said that as I've had aching in my good ear. I been to docs they said it's a dental problem. Went to dentist they said it's not a dental problem.
    • Posted

Told second ent who I seen in October said it was because my good try compensate for my bad ear
    • Posted

      Michelle....

Both of my ears ached...i had pressure and pain in them both even though my left ear is the bad one. My VN got better after i started on the exercises and went on Ativan. This drug helps the foggy brain and unsteadiness.
