Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Jan, so glad to hear about your progress. I am also 6 weeks post-op and was getting concerned that I still have pain and can't bend my feet enough to get any of my shoes on. I had to order running shoes an entire size larger so I could get out of the "boots". The tops of my feet are still swollen and I continue to walk with a shuffle. I am more mobile though and actually cooked a simple dinner last night. I envy your sunshine...I woke up to 3 inches of snow and winds of 40 mph! Should be 70 degrees tomorrow though!

11 days post op. Getting very Antsy. Only have pain when I'm not elevated. Still, my big toe is very numb and have that throbbing occasionally. Have a dinner to go to tonight with family but don't really want to go due to the pain it creates not elevating. My biggest hurdle is not being able to excersize. I went from 5 -6 days a week to nothing aside of a few crunches and knee pushups. Frustrated. Hope all is well today. Second straight day of continuous rain. Have a blessed day!!

Bob, I think the weather is getting you down--I know it is for me. I'm in the mountains of NC and woke up to 3" of snow and 40 mph winds. Go to your dinner and sit with your foot elevated on a chair. It'll help get your mind off your troubles. My feet hurt yesterday but feel better today--ebbs and flows. Still can't get my feet in my regular shoes 6 weeks post op because my feet won't bend enough. The tops of my feet are still swollen but the scars are fading fast. I've been using sweet almond oil to massage the scars. Keep your spirits up. Each day that passes is one more day closer to being able to run and play golf. My doctor told me I can start putting and chipping by mid-April and actually playing an entire game by mid-May.

Ugh, more snow! I've had enough! I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I don't think winter is ever going to take a hike. Doing pretty good at week 4. The bunion area is still quite sore. Redness comes and goes along with swelling. The other three incisions are healing but my foot feels like it's been through a eat grinder. Still non-weight bearing but am allowed to just place the foot (in that huge clunky boot) on the ground.

Bob, do go to the dinner and prop that bad boy up on a chair. All the restaurants I have been to are very understanding and help get me comfortable. It's nice to get out foe a bit even though it wears me out.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Wish they had a like button on this as do like the recommends for Bob to go out to dinner. I have propped my foot up n all sorts of places and never a problem and get us with others as it does get lonely! Get out as much as you feel able. I have an active day and a quiet day xx

Afternoon everyone!! So do I actually have to put my foot above my heart all the time?? Not sure, but it does feel better. I sure hope I can get a shower tomorrow. I took a tumble, grrrrrrrrrrrr was on my scooter trying to make a nest on the other side of the couch and the next thing I was on the ground. Dont think I did anything as not in pain, but I did put weight on the non-weight foot. Have to ask for more help I guess. It really is hard too. Hubby is going to get me some arrowroot cookies as the tummy doesnt like the anti-inflam pills. So how long does this every hour icing continue for?? How often does everyone here do it? SNOWING here all day so hubby is out shoveling right now. I am so bored already and its just day two.............oh man this is going to be a long haul. Thankfully you are all here and all understand how I feel too.

Cant say I ever iced Anita but if it helps just keep doing it. I am nearly 4 weeks and always keep mine up high when relaxing but can get round without my crutches round the house now - I do have a plastercast though. Sorry about your snow - my husband has spent the day in the harbour messing about with boats and is sat here in shorts!! Wish I could have gone with him!! I suppose you could put your foot in the snow!! HAve good evening

Loving the weather reports! Cold and dull here in Scotland-very jealous Jill! Anita,I never iced either but was very strict about the elevating! Unused icepacks here too! Don't think about being bored just think about your body resting and recovering.

Eileen, another scot here, from Glasgow. Day 18. But been continually painful for 2 days, only a light dressing on now and all stitches out, not sure whether I have infection or this is normal and I have done too much yesterday. Was at shops, though in wheelchair for some of the time but then there was the travelling to and from, plus a wee walk round shop. So I've had a lot of rest today to see if it helps.

I've never been told to ice either, everyone is so different it seems. I going to look into the shop mobility things the big shopping centres have and perhaps get a day out on an electric scooter

I can't report that I have ever been bored since stopping work. Feel lucky that I work in an office though and not have a job that I would have to stand at. Every day I have had visitors, been lucky, next week will be quieter and I have some projects I want done like going through all the old paperwork and getting rid of what I don't need and filing the rest properly, and sorting out photos and getting albums made, and some sewing projects, so that should keep me busy. Any other tips for passing the time?

Bob, I too was fit and I feel that I will never get that level of fitness back, not at 57, but aiming to get back running next year, as I have my other foot to get done too.

Hi Joan-my couple of sore days were at 28 days but been fine otherwise. I have too many projects and not enough time to complete them! Now at day 32 with toe spacers, heel walker shoes and nothing else. Both feet done and both scars very tender even though I'm killing them with tlc!

Anita, I fell off of my scooter also landing on my non-weight bearing foot. I did it twice! Be careful cause those things seem to have a mind of their own. I would elevate your foot above your heart for at least several days. I think I kept mine up for a week. And ice, ice, ice! I am a month out and still icing it. It helps reduce swelling and helps with pain. And...it feels darn good. You sound like you are doing quite well.

I'm having some ice, lovely frozen peas, cooling foot down nicely, I've been sitting since 4pm today, only up a couple of times, backside is numb.

Eileen, sounds good. Must be hard getting both feet done at the se time but also a relief that only one recuperation.
