Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Woop WOOOOOOOOP week 6 after operation and been told by hospital, to get on with it on my own. To use the hated boot for few days then to go without it....................OH JOY. My foot looks lovely I will be able to wear sandles well on my left foot this year. Had pain when the plaster and pin was take out of my toe but the end is in sight. I am prepared now for the right foot operation next year. I was so frustrated by not being able to do things. I borrowed my Dads wheelchair to go on outings which was a great help.Shops do have them to loan you. BUT warning food shopping is a nightmare, you are invisable as child buggies and trolleys have right of way at ALL time. Still taking pain killers at night but that is sooon to end

    Hi everyone

Weather has been glorious in the Peak District too and the sun is out again today. Bit of a chill in the air still though. But no snow.

I have been out and about and have squeezed my feet into my trainers, but they are not comfortable. Think I may buy some larger ones like Lynn.

Feel very vulnerable in my ordinary shoes and doing a "Flamingo" impression on one leg every time someone comes too near my foot. At least when I had crutches I could use them to protect me. People generally were very kind and gave way to me.

Bob hope you went out and that you had a good time. How is the foot? I have put on weight, my jeans are as tight as my footwear. Must do better and exercise more.

Anita, I iced my foot every day for a good 4 weeks as I had a lot of swelling. I still do occasionally as the top of my foot and toes are still swollen. I used the reusable gel packs that you can freeze, put in a cover and wrap around your entire foot, does up with Velcro. Couldn't have done without them.

Can't say I'm in a rush to go back to work properly. Have to go Thursday all day, possibly Friday. That's not so bad. Hubby had a very busy weekend in cafe as weather so good. Felt sorry for him. It's not for much longer and I will be back to normal. Foot doesn't seem to want to bend.

Jill, is your big toe moving much?

Jan, cant really say as in a plaster cast though II can wiggle it a little!! Café very busy today but I have been ordered upstairs. Have to work Thursday!! no help available!!

Sorry Jill, forgot you still had plaster on. You will have to let us know once your plaster is off. My plaster was only on 2 weeks, then a fibre cast, which I could take off for sleep for another 4. Such different types of treatment.

So we are both in cafe on Thursday. I'm still paddling about in my nightie. How bad is that!! Going in shower now.

Anita - Hope your getting adjusted. I too have turned into a high maintinance boyfriend. LOL First 5 days are the most difficult in my oppinion so far. Hang on.

Jenny - Loved conoeing those Shannondoah mountains back in those crazy days.

    Lynn - Keep working it!!!

Joan - I'll be 56 and went from really good shape to mush. I feel the way you feel. Don't think I'll ever get back to where I was. After my next surgery i'll be that much worse off. Won't give in to those negitive thoughts. We will be ok.

Jan - I've worn nothing but sweat pants since surgery. Don't even want to attempt clothes.

Well stitches come out Friday. Hope everyone has a great day. We have to keep our head up so we can see more. Remember someone else has it worse than us. Have a nice, peaceful day!!!! confused

I'm venturing out on my own today! The doctor gave me the green light to drive so I'm going out to lunch with a friend. So excited! My husband has been wonderful through all this, but I need some serious girl time.

    Morning bunion friends!!!

First day alone as hubby is at work. Hubby got almost everything ready for me beside a table by the couch. I think he forgot lunch, but thats alright as my scooter will take me there. I really do love the icing, feels so good. Its really funny as when he was home on the weekend he made me tea at lunch. He put out the cup and has filled the kettle etc. but dont think I can get a ceramic cup to the couch, and we have lots of insulted cup around. Oh well, good things I was organized and got stuff found and at height level for me. He isnt used to being a care giver but I am sure by the end of this he will be good. Still feeling not so good in the tummy department with these pills but eating yougurt before the morning meds. Seems the evening ones really do me in. I slept all night except for one bathroom trip. Man does my back hurt from all the sitting/lying around. I need a shower bad!!! Going to call today and see if I can get homecare to come and help me out. Hubby says he will help me but really he doesnt really understand properly what its like etc. I get scared when I look at myself in the mirror lol.

Lynn, happy venturing out, enjoy some time with your girl friends.

Bob, I bet you cant wait for the stitches to come out. Glad you went out for dinner on the weekend. Your getting the other foot done too. What version are they doing on that foot? It snowed her all day yesterday and havent seen the sun or the sky all weekend. Makes for a depressed feeling for everyone. Still hanging on here. Stubbed my toe heading to the bathroom at 1am as still am adjusting to this life on non-independence.

Jan, rest up so you can Thursday. The more you rest the faster you can get back on your feet, or so they see. How do you make out all day without your hubby. Does he prepare your food for you within easy reach or does he run down and see you throughout the day. Love your 'Flamingo stance" comment. Glad your foot is great looking.

Jilly, take it easy too with working near the end of the week. Baby steps will get us through this.

Jenny, sometimes I think the scooter has a mind of its own. But I am so thankful that I have it.

Be, way to go, celebration for your 6 weeks, woo hoo. I bet you feel wonderful and will miss the fashion boot

Eileen, I bet your excited coming on to your 6 weeks too. Counting the days down here. Have a calendar so I can write the pain, water intake etc.

Joan, I am afraid to leave the house just yet. Not sure if I will be doing that as I hate stairs. I guess you have a new appreciation for people in wheelchairs? This is a big learning experience for all of us.

Well thats it for now, hope I didnt miss anyone here. Your all such a great support. Have a great day all and its one day closer to being up and wearing our shoes.

Good morning! I have a new little concern. This morning there is a hard swollen area beside the incision from the bunion. It is raised and not really painful, just sore like the rest of the foot. It is exactly where the screw is located. Hmmmmm...has my mind going double time. Do the screws work their way out or make the area inflamed? Hope everyone has a good day.

Hello, I know this post was forever and a day ago. I had a lapidus procedure 6!weeks ago and today I have this exact thing. The red raised bump bext to an incision, above where the screws were placed. My nurse is extremely ornery about me having the boot off, so I thought I'd try and ask you what it was or if it was a concern.

Jenny, call your Dr or Surgeon. I have heard of some people getting the screws taken out. Have it looked into as soon as possible and let us all know.

Anita - yes you do appreciate how hard it is for wheelchair users from getting the chair in and out the car, also whether it fits in the boot, and then the people that park in the disabled bays that don't need to grrrr. Yes it is sore on your back too, sleeping and lying about. I made myself a pasta today and just going to see to the tea, I will prepare it then hubby can put it in oven etcetera.

Foot is feeling much better today as I have

    Been resting more.

Joan, I guess rest is the key to all of this. I am totally bored already. Been playing games on facebook, watched some Netflix but now what to do?? Yes, I am icing and that does take time for sure. My foot feels very numb today. Is this normal? Fells like a good walk would wake it up but I cant do that.

Bob - I'm aiming for a 10k next May, even if I had to walk some of it, I am doing it. Maybe we will just have to push ourselves a bit harder to get back to fitness.
