Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

I am almost 7weeks post op. I had a k wire (now removed) and it didn't hurt at all, so don't worry about that one.
Managed to get into trainers but not comfortable. Just slow slow progress. Just wish I could drive. Don't feel I can get enough pressure for an emergency stop. Don't see consultant for 6 months now. Hope I will be jumping and running by then!!!!
Glad you had a good day today Jill. Beautiful weather.
Hi Carmen - where in Derbyshire are you? I am in Buxton. I am not being given physio, just one exercise to do ( which I can't do at the moment, as foot won't bend).
Bob - my scar is 4" long, yours does seem big. Have you got big feet???? Lol. I take size 4 (37) continental.
Welcome Beau - I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you. Still get twinges and still swollen, although slow progress, I'm feeling more positive.

The surgery place just called finally to see how I am doing. I told them the foot feels numb and tingly. They said to take it out of the air cast and wiggle the ankle. She said to wiggle my toes, I asked her to read what I had done, sheesh she didnt before she called, whats with that. Then she tells me to go easy as I had a very invasive bunion op, oh good to know. I can wiggle the ankle etc. She says she will call back this afternoon, will see if she does this time. Still feels rather numb and not sure I can wiggle my toes with the screws, I am scared. Any one know.
Glad to hear some of you are getting out and about. A change of pace and scenery would be good right about now. Girl friend coming this afternoon so that will be my change. I did a wash cloth bath this morning on my knee scooter and it took 15 mins or so as I had to take a phone call. Foot did not like it at all. Sorry girl friend here have to run.............

Jan - Wore size 18 Adidas in high school. (Just kidding ) Maybe 6 inch scar. From my toe knuckle almost, not quite to my ankle.
Anita - Lot's of times they just call to go thru the motions. There are those is every occupation. I was instructed to just move my ankle. not my toes yet. 12 Days out! Also I found a way to shower everyday since surgery. Plastic pullover bag type thing we got at the pharmacy. Showering is a slow process.
Jill - Glad to hear you were out walking. Gives us hope. Thanks.
Heading out for dinner. Been a long slow day inside.

Hey Anita fellow Canuck....wow, they actually called you to check up? Had mine done in Toronto Western Hospital and for sure they won't do that! Next time anyone talks to me is at my 2 week appointment April 7th. No one told me to wiggle anything but I am moving my ankle around a bit just cause it feels good. My niece lives in Edmonton. Where are you in Alberta?
Kate....we had our surgeries on the same day. I am sorry to hear about that leg. It sounds awful. What does the doctor say about it?
The most discomfort in my foot is on top of the foot below the hammertoe and in the same horizontal line as where the bunion was. I'm thinking it's bruising and or inflammation so the bandage seems to be pressing on it. I wonder if any of you had the same.

Glad to hear everyone is keeping well and coping one way or another. I'm having the most awful ''throbbing''in my foot tonight and not even the ice is working! Definitely overdid it today. Time for a painkiller and bed.
Wishing everyone a lovely evening/day.
Carmen

Bob - how are the blisters today? I know when I post this you should still be in the land of nod!!
I have just tripped up the stairs with my good foot, but in doing so bent my bad foot, but it didn't actually bend ( if you understand what I mean). Now back with ice pack on my foot. Both my feet are very sore from wearing sweaty, tight trainers. Must be a size issue.
Wedding Anniversary today and going to a garden centre and out to dinner tonight.
Problem - what do I wear on feet????? Think i will wear 1 good shoe and my faithful Velcro boot. Almost threw it away. Can't go posh with white trainers on lol. 😃

I wrote a not here but then it vanished, oh well. Its Wednesday the week is half over. Mother in law is coming over today for a visit. She said she will be bring muffins she made from her freezer. I told hubby and he said good thing its garbage night tonight. No comment.
I have to tell you my girl friend came yesterday with flowers and a wonderful lunch. Greek salad and she made some salmon in the oven. It was great. I was exhausted and all I did was sit on the couch. It was hard as I am the one usually entertaining.
Jan, Happy Anniversary!! Enjoy your night out with your husband.
Bob Bob Bob, You need to slow down and baby your foot. Did I read your going to have the other one done once this one heals?? Guess you have a long way to go eh!
Ok, this time I am NOT scrolling back so I can answer everyone as that is how I lost the last post.
Have a good day
Anita

Bob, do make sure you rest more - it will make recovery much quicker. I know what you mean about sitting on a high stool, Ihave one in the kitchen and thought I could sit there while chopping things up for dinner, but could feel the thrbbing beginning. Now I just put all the veg etc I want to prepare on a tray and take it and sit down in the living room.
Swelling seems to be going down for me. I was out with hubby last night for a meal, had 2 glasses of wine too, enjoyed myself.
Anita - how are you feeling now - the worst is over

Bob.....can't believe you are so active! Must tell you though that my nephew who had bunion/hammertoe surgery was out coaching his little league team on day 4 and thereafter much more active than he should have been. Result was the swelling in foot lasted more months than it would have otherwise the doctor told him. He says now if he had to do it again he'd be more patient and careful !!
Anita....you mention exhausted. I hear ya! The most surprising part of this first week is the lack of energy. Guess healing uses up alot ! Can't imagine moving like a turtle does....
Joan....any pressure on my upper legs causes throbbing .....even the cat sitting on my thigh can do it. I am happy to say was able to get down on my mat to do some hamstring, hip and back stretches as well as a few crunches. It felt marvelous and had no bad effects.
Jenny....I have such admiration for those of you who had such extensive surgery. Such courage and grit. Enjoy your 70°. Where do you live to have such warm weather?
Well, it's sunny and supposed to go up to 50° here in Toronto and I'm going to try out my knee scooter outside. Will drive over to the supermarket and pick up a couple of things. I had a bicycle shop install a basket on it which has proven indispensable inside as well.
Comfort and patience to all ! 😃

Awesome your able to get out with your knee scooter. I put a bad in front of my handles and its great for the phone and moving the ice packs from the freezer and back. We still have SNOW out front here in Calgary. Should be all melted by the weekend. Your at week one already, thats awesome. How many weeks do you have non-weight bearing. I have 6.........seems like a lifetime to me. When my g/f was over yesterday she said she would take me out next week. I can do my stairs so thats a no go for now. Oh well, passing the time away. Ice and elevate. Happy Anniversary to you too!! Enjoy!!
