Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning Friends,

I survived my stitches coming out. It didnt hurt at all. We had to take my Mom to an eye specialist appointment at 8am, so that meant picking her up, etc. As most professionals they kept us waiting for a while. My Stitches appointment was at 9.30 as we got there late and had to take Mom with us. No time to drop her off at the hospital. I did call my surgeron and they said not to be too late or we would have to rescedule so we all went.

When I got there xrays had to be taken first. That took a while. It was strange they didnt have many chairs for people, in the xray area, to sit. I actually got up on my scooter as this lady, who was having a hard time on her crutches, to give her my chair.  The women next to me didnt budge and she had no troubles walking etc. Some people, I tell ya. The xrays show a really STRAIGHT toe. I couldnt beleive how good it looked. The stitches coming out were nothing. Yes, I was worried about the pain but like I said before, a mosquito bite hurts more and it was only once too. By the time we got out of there and dropped Mom off and got home to have lunch, picked something up on the way home, hubby went to work and it was 1.30. I was exhausted. Foot feel so cold all night and the pain was bad. Took pills and more pills.

Had a good night sleep and today so far doing good. Foot is warm again. Its shower day and the Doctor said I could now get it wet, I wonder how that will feel? He also mentioned that I should now use Polysporin on it a few times a day. That will be strange but I will do it. He also said that I should start wiggling my toes, so that will be different too. Hubby is picking up Mom after lunch and she will be spending the day and dinner with us. It will be nice for her to get out as it gets really boring in the hospital as most go home etc. Not many left. So that is my day today. Thanks for all your support, your the BEST!!!

Is everyone still replying to Jenny?? This is going to take some getting used to.

Have a great day, and do something nice for yourself today.

Hi all....hope this Good Friday is a lovely day for all of you out there in bunionless land 😃  I'm nearly back to where I was before The Big Toe Stub two nights ago so am happy about that! Small victories mean so much at this stage don't they?

Feels really odd to be replying to myself...lol

Back from physical therapy.  I just love my therapist and am going to miss her. Only 3 more appointments I think.  Next week I'm to take a shoe with me!  Uh Oh...I think I know what that means.  Tried driving with the right foot today but didn't do well.  I'm still too afraid of pain.  Going to try more this weekend.

Sounds like everyone is doing relatively well.

I cannot wait to get out of this boot!  It is the most uncomfortable one I have ever been in!

Hello all. Nearly bedtime here in Glasgow.  I have had a fabulous day, I made an Easter egg hunt on my back garden, my daughter and g/daughter came and grandson, (12 weeks old) she had arranged a big surprise for me and had invited my friend too, they made sandwiches and brought cakes and chocolate and we had such a lovely time in the garden in the sun, my garden looked like a bomb site by the end of the afternoon, but my hubby cleared it all up and done all the dishes.

So now on to my foot, well it didn't really get much rest all day until about 6pm when I sat down, throbbing now, and pretty swollen, iced it and that helped.   But can't complain after having such a lovely surprise.

Anita, did you enjoy your shower, I found it it's stll

a bit scary standing having a shower in case you slip, felt more comfy with a bath.

Well I can't believe the progress I've made in this last week- 7 weeks post op today- it seems so long ago now. I'm now driving and riding my motorbike. Everyday I've tried a different pair of shoes on to see what works best - bottom line is that bare feet are best for me, flip flops are good too, today i wore my walking boots because I intended mowing the lawn and thought i'd best protect my beautiful feet and they were fine. Every day I'm staying on my feet for longer before I feel the need to sit and elevate. They still swell, it just takes longer for them to get to the ouchy stage. My scars are doing really well, just one tiny scab that just won't shift yet. I make a point of massaging my feet with bio oil or a body butter a couple of times a day and that really helps a lot if i do it before i go walking anywhere. Not sure exactly how far or how long I can walk for as I tend to make sure I plan it in stages- for example I went to do a big supermarket shop yesterday, went half way round our local superstore, went for a cuppa and a sit down with feet up for 15 mins, then did the other half of the store and that worked really well. I cannot stress enough that I don't think I would be doing so well if I hadn't literally sat with my feet up for 5 weeks other than a 5 minutes every hour walk about/toilet break etc.. I have an 8 day motorbike holiday planned in exactly 9 weeks which will be 16 weeks from surgery. 2000 miles of riding with sightseeing too and have every confidence it will be fine- it has been my focus and what made me do exactly as the surgeon told me to do if I wanted to make the trip. Happy Easter everyone..... there is a light at the end of the tunnel smile

Hi joan Well done you. Its so important to have people drop in for chat/visit it so takes the boredom away. It also pushes you a bit to try and stay on your feet a bit more. Who eat the most chocolate ?

Hiya- yes BOTH feet. My theory was I'd be incapacitated anyway so it meant just one recovery time. It wasn't as hard as you may think and if anything I think it has helped my recovery because I wasn't tempted to do too much. My surgeon was keen to do both so that I'd be pain free after one procedure rather than still in pain while waiting to do the second foot. I had help the first 2 or 3 days but since then I've managed ok by myself. smile

      Well done. uuuuuuuuuuuuu

It would have been my theory, to have both done at same time. but surgeon does not do this.

Perhaps he gets paid double when he does it one at a time.evil

Well I know what to expect next time and I will be prepared for the 3-4 months off, better.

You will be good for your bikes rides, as you have positive thinking.

    Morning WEEK 4 Day 1

Hope everyone is doing better. Went to Dr. yesterday and infection is clearing up. I'm now walking in boot with crutches on guarded weight, heal to toe. Took about 20 steps yesterday and my foot throbbed all night. Didn't sleep well.

I've had my hip replaced, shoulder repaired and knee surgery, this by far is the most frustrating surgery of them all. Anyway I will keep trudging along like everyone else and keep my thoughts positive.

be - That is admirable you had both feet done at the same time. Helps me thru when I'm having a rough day.

This is a pix from a few days ago.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Morning and Happy Saturday to everyone.

Day 22 for me!!  woo hoo my sentence is half over LOL. Another 3 weekd to go. Hanging on by a thread from the ceiling, with my toe. LOL.

I had  a shower yesterday, but I used the shower chair. Not ready to try and balance in the shower just yet. Put lots of polysporin on yesterday and then covered it with a sock. Today I want to prewash it and put on more stuff. It looks so blue and puffy still. I am still elevating and icing. I am feeling pain where the screws are. Any one else? Is it just a healing thing? I am supposed to wiggle my toes but I am scared to death of doing that. I will try really hard today but I dont know why, I am just afraid to wiggle. Of what?? I have no idea. Is it just me, or did any one else go through this?

Bob, you foot looks like it is healing really good and the infection is gone. Thats so wonderful for you. I cant beleive you allowed to start walking already. My Surgeon said in two more weeks we will chat about it.

Joan, what a lovely suprise for you. I bet you had fun. Its always nice to have friends around. Your doing well.

Be, hang in there. I know if would have be easier to get both feet done but there must be a reason, everyone is different.

Beu, you give us all hope that soon we will be able to get back to normal life. I am so ready to divorce my couch but know I still need it. I am doing all the things I am supposed to as per the Dr.

Patricia and Rea, hope all is well with you both. ENjoy the day.

Well I must get another ice pack on as another hour has passed by. Enjoy your Saturday and Elevate and ICE, cause your worth it!!

Well, I feel like I have finally reached an important stage in healing where I think I may walk again  lol...I am able to take a few steps on my bare feet!  Less pain now, still swelling and turning purple when the foot is down for too long. Therapist said that will last upwards of 6-9 months probably.  But I feel so much better!  Doing my exercises faithfully as I want to get stronger.

Hope everyone has a great night!  Hi to all!!

    Morning. Middle of WEEK 4

Woke up and today is the best i've felt so far. Was swollen last night. Started walking in boot. Infection is starting to fade. Had a good night sleep. That always helps our frame of mind.

Anita - I started to wiggle my toe slowly.

Jenny - Good news you started to walk in bare feet. Excited for that to happen one day soon.

My issue today is my diet and lack of excersise even tho I do a light workout, upper body everyday. Legs got really skinny. Especially the left.

Hope everyone has a good Easter!!!!!

Bob, don't worry too much about your diet, a couple of weeks and you will be able to do more activity. Just keep eating low fat healthy foods, lots of fruit and veg.  You will build your muscles up again, what's a few weeks out, it will really aid your recovery if you take things a bit easier.  You will always be able to loose those eXTra pounds.  Positive thinking.  I'm sure Anita will agree with me.  I weighed in and have only put on 3 lbs since the operation.
