Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Oh my goodness, tidying up my shoe box and came across these, can actually put them on, but how bad is right foot, can't wait until that foot is done.  Looking at the new foot in the shoe makes it all worthwhile now, still a bit to go, just so pleased I will eventually get a nice pair of pumps on, was so hard to ever find a pair of shoes that went above the bunions

Be,VJ and Joan- I know where you are with the straight foot thing! I'm just coming up to 8 weeks post op and had both feet done. My right foot looks perfect but the left isn't nearly as pretty. However on the positive side.......the left bunion was much worse than the right, the consultant spent two hours operating on the left foot and only 1/2 hour on the right (I was awake so was aware of how long it took for the op) and ,as he said, there is much more swelling on the left foot because it was so bad. I do know that both feet are perfectly straight because I've seen the X-rays so I can only hope that the 'bump' I have where the bunion was will go with time. I too have foot envy when I see Carmen's photo but I think Rena pointed out that Carmen had a slightly different op from us- one that deals with a slightly less severe bunion. Finally I think that your foot looks great Joan- it will settle I'm sure......and you now know how much better shoes will fit!!

Take heart - we have to hope that these consultants know what they're doing!!

    Morning

    Tomorrow will be 5 WEEKS!!!!

Last night I was in pain, bit miserable, cranky, feeling again like '' Was this the right decision'' !!! I't seems like in the morning I'm fine and by the evening I'm feeling like life is such a struggle. I understand " THIS TOO SHALL PASS ''. I'm also feeling physically ''BLAH". Went from 6 days a week excersising to almost nothing. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE  ( I guess I am human )

I am grateful for all the little things. Elevating, Ice is my best friend. Took about forty steps yesterday with boot and crutches.

Anita - WE can do this. '' ONE DAY AT A TIME"

Jenny - Hang in there. Before we know it, it will be a distant memory.

Rena - Always been kinda like a hard head most my life. Thanks for the caring thoughts. Hope you have a good day today. Positive thoughts to you.

Joan - Took us years to get this far into the woods with our bad feet, going to take time to get out. One step at a time.

Some days are really hard to stay positive for everyone. Thank god we get a do over today. Let's just do the best we can. Remember to show our love and appreciation to the one's that are taking care of us. For me it's my girlfriend Annette. She's about had it with me on some days. I know she loves me tho.

    Have a blessed day.

    Morning, Week 3 Day 4

Last night was the first night that I slept without the Boot and it was great. I was a little scared that I might roll over etc. I did bandage up the foot for security, in case, and all went well. That Boot really is heavy and well seems to rub in all the wrong places.

Had a lovely visit with my g/f yesterday. She brought me so many treats, yummy. I dont want to see a scale for while, oh well. Today will be a "ME" day. Just me at home all day, till hubby gets back from work. Its rather nice.

I am still soaking the foot everyday and putting on lots of polysporin. I think its healing nicely. Will start the bio oil soon.  I think it needs more moisture.

Eileen, we must have faith in the professionals. It took long enoug to get where you were before so therefore it must take time to correct. Hang in there.

Ren, how was your outting yesterday. Thought about you in the sunshine. Was 19C here yesterdy and I had all the windows open.

Joan, hang in there. Its going to get better, one day at a time.

Bob, what can I say. I am here for you, anytime. Lean on your friends. Pick yourself up and put a smile on your face.

To the rest that I missed, enjoy the day. Do something "NICE" for yourself today.

    HUGS to you all

    Afternoon,

Thank you for the kind comments regarding my foot. I am pleased with the results and certainly didn't want to cause 'foot envy'😐! Yes I had a bunion that wasn't as severe as some, but trust me I certainly had the pain. I was fortunate that my consultant recommended the Capital Osteotomy that is a less invasive procedure, but just as painful.

The types of procedures we have will all differ depending on the recommendations by our consultants, types of feet/severity of bunions etc etc  as does recovery time, but we all reached the decision to go for the op one way or another.

Some days will be easier than others, but as long as we look at the end result it makes it all worth it.

for me my end result is to get back to running and walking for miles.

I am now managing to get around with no crutches and am almost weight bearing. I'm only icing every few hours and am able to spend more time on my feet , getting there slowly but surely.

Oh and physio is definitely working.

we are all doing so well and this forum has certainly helped me☺!

      Hi

Didn't mean to imply that your foot didn't hurt or that your bunion wasn't severe as I'm sure it must have done- other wise you wouldn't be joining us hereredface!  You do have pretty feet though so appreciate them and please, please wear some lovely sandals this summer to show them off!!

      E smile

      Hi All !

Yesterday's lunch out on the restaurant patio was just heaven!  It makes you feel normal again, confused.  Luckily could get a seat where I could elevate on my knee scooter seat so was totally comfortable.  Last night had a bit of a setback.  The couple of pillows on an ottoman on which I was elevating my unshod foot  while watching catch up episodes of Downton Abbey Season 3 (I am addicted!) started to move forward and as I lunged to catch them from falling off (which they did anyway)  I dropped my foot to the floor....I had a fleeting thought of uh oh....hope nothing happened..but it did not hurt so picked up the pillows, rearrranged them, raised foot again and continue watching !  WELL, it took some time but the pain level started to rise in pretty much the whole foot and continued to increase, reminding me of the post surgery all over pain but not nearly as bad.  For the first time in weeks I had to take an Advil before going to sleep and I went back to elevating on my 10" high ortho pillow fervently hoping I had not done damage to the foot. When I woke up this morning I had no pain whatsover and the sense of relief  the washed over me was all consuming. Even moving around there is no more discomfort than prior.  So there you have it, my big scare and the amazingly positive end to the story !  Just to be sure however will try to stay off my feet more today than usual.

So to all my Bunionless Buddies have a CAREFUL and comfortable day !!

Carmen...I so agree with all that you say....and you are one lucky gal to have such adorable feet !! Do you have a before pic you can post side by side with the after?  My goal was to stop the toe drift which caused one hammertoe and was on its away to causing a second hammertoe in the 3rd toe....no way did I want to have additional toes that needed surgery..two is enough thank you !

Bob....hope this is a more comfortable day for you. smile

Anita.. thank goodness you ditched the boot! Sweet, sweet sleep !! And your foot is looking good girl !! smile

Eileen, Be, VJ and Joan.....my heart hurts to hear your disappointment.  I hope that  down the line as you are getting into shoes that you haven't seen on your feet in decades and as all discomfort will have been greatly reduced if not eliminated entirely  it will all have been worth it to you. The added bonus is that the bare foot will have improved to whatever degree in the end it lands up in.  So take heart ladies....a few months of patience is not alot to ask after decades of living with our less than desirable tootsies !!! razz

      Hi Rena

ouch! Just glad there was no pain this morning.I've attached a before and after foto.  My consultant also discovered cartridge damage to my big toe joint, which will require replacing, so another op is on the cards somewhere down the line.

have you got any pics to post?(sorry if you have already, may have missed them).

I too had a hammertoe problem on my left foot and it got visibly worse in the time I was waiting for surgery so that was the main reason for geting it done when I did. I think when I look at the right foot and compare it to the left i want the left foot to just look as good!!

LOL....I hear ya!  Interesting how even on one body the two feet can be so completely different...I know mine sure were!  Do you have any before/after pics you can share?

Here they are again Carmen.  The pins (one between the big toe and the 2nd toe and one on top of 2nd toe) are supposed to come out May 5th which will be 6 weeks.

I have no before photos- didn't think to take any! The bunions are but a memory! Will share after photos when I'm on the correct computer!

I think if I'd had pins I might have had a problem................!!

They are somewhat uncomfortable from time to time...I actually have a call into the surgeon today to see if he would consider taking them out before the 6 weeks...will see what he answers.  The one between the toes is pressing into the 2nd toe and I can feel it sometimes when I walk.

Morning everyone - I'm on week 4 day 1 now and the tightness is definitely easing and I'm finding I can have my foot down for longer periods, and also don't have to raise it quite as high when I'm prone, so yay I can see a faint glimmer at the end of the tunnel!. I managed to bake a cake for my husband for his birthday yesterday, did have to keep walking around the kitchen in between - I find that I can't stand still and so even if I'm talking to someone I have to keep walking back and forth.... This morning I managed to carry a small laundry basket to the laundry without my crutches just wearing the boot, and put on a load of washing. My toe is a bit sore now, but at least I'm not feeling quite so useless!

Glad to hear your foot is feeling better after dropping it Rena, and hope you get your wish and the pins can come out today

Anita, your foot is looking great ( and you have such cute little toes! ) and glad to hear you were brave enough to ditch the boot. I don't like to walk without it, but take it off at all other times - I do have a cast though which I wouldn't want to be without, it provides so much protection - I'm actually a bit nervous about when it gets taken off in 2 weeks 5 days time, it's become a bit of a security blanket!

Hope everyone else has a good day today - our feet may not be used for nail polish ads after all this, but there will definitely be improvement!

Rena the pins look uncomfortable, are they? Foot is looking good😀

Thanks Carmen confused  The pin between the two toes can be sometimes when limping along as it is pressing a bit into that 2nd toe.  It depends on how swollen the 2nd toe is.
