Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning !!! WEEK 5

Wow it's been a tough FIVE!!!

Pretty much the same song. By nightime my foot is swollen, still very numb and sharp twitching pain shoots thru. Mornings my foot feels pretty good. Still soaking in epsom salts, recommend that highly.Infection is gone I believe.

Somewhere around here I heard '' My life is on hold'' That sums my life up at the present!! Feel like I'm on house arrest without legal issues and I'm allowed out for a few hours.

Patricia - Started doing laundry, dishes, taking trash out, little chores lately. Eases the burden for my GF Annette who I think has had it.

Carmen - Looking good woman. Definitly '' foot envy''. We can't get caught up in everyone's recovery because we all had different procedures like you said. What we have in common is we all had bunions and we all went under the knife and we  need PATIENCE!!!!

Anitagirl - Completely get it when you said they at least aren't crooked. Totally relate!!!

Rena - So glad you had a nice day and you have been such a positive role model for me and I'm sure others. Even tho It sounds like I'm over the top doing things, I do alot of icing and elevating and I shut down when my foot yells at me.

Eillen - Hope you are doing well.

Hope everyone has a great day and I'm prayiing that we all keep progressing in our recovery.

Bob, I overdone it on Saturday, went to city centre on a bus by myself, only went to one shop, but bought to much, was to heavy,  I was only away a couple of hours, but it has taken 2 days for my foot to recover, spent all day Sunday in the back garden and yesterday on the couch, my foot nipped and burned.  My wee neighbour saw me coming up the road and came to help me carry the bags, we soul is in her 80s.  So nice of her, I just wanted to lie down in the street by this time.

Week 6 now - new sick note for a further 4 weeks,I have just told work this and I think they had expected that I would be back at work tomorrow.

I must report I am not bored or climbing the walls at being in my house. I am quite enjoying the rest and not having all the stress at work.   Well I do have my new wee 12 week grandchild to keep me going, I am having extra quality time with him and as you know this baby stage does not last, they grown up so quick, and now that I am up and about abit more I should get some more time with him.

Anita I have had that weepy feeling also, emotional, no idea why,

Anita and Bob, I hope both your moms are doing well.

I am not liking this new layout too much seems awful muddled up.  Prefering the facebook site.

Well have a good day everyone - one day nearer recovery.

    Good Morning my friends!!

Had a ME day yesterday and it was good and nice.  Soaking my foot in epsom feels really good. Today my Mother in law and a friends are coming for a visit and to bring me lunch.  Hope its something good. The place is a mess and company should not be allowed to come but what can I do, put on my Rose Colored glasses and move on.  Its another nice sunny day out today. They did call for rain but I dont see that happening. Yesterday was 18C. Apparently my tulips are blooming in the front yard so I asked hubby to bring some in tonight so I can enjoy them too.

Paticia,, I just want to HUG you, no one has ever told me I had cute little toes, lol. Thanks for that. Sounds like you had a good time baking and walking. It must be nice to walk. Enjoy your hubby's birthday.

Bob, Hang in there Bro, life will get easier. Just think, at least your able to get out. Not sure how but you do. You need to listen to your foot. Glad the infection is all cleared up. After all this caring for you maybe its time to...........you know.......hint hint,  perhaps ring shopping?? She seems like a wonderful person and has been so good to you. No pressure lol.

Joan, so sorry to hear about your overdoing it. We always want to get up and move faster then our feet tells us we can. Take it easy. The time will come soon.  So wonderful of your sweet neighbour to help you out. Nice that your able to stay home a little more and look after you.

To the rest, have a good day.

We cant redo today, so enjoy every moment. Its time to listen to your foot and do as we are told.

Hello All,  5 weeks post scarf osteotomy op today. I started wearing trainers last week on the advice from the foot clinic and am walking better, though still slightly on the side of my foot which is giving me some sciatic pain.

All the toe moving is paying off at last as I can wiggle it by itself a bit now, though it feels like I'm moving it more than I actually am.

The scar is feeling a little sore, but is looking better every day.Looking forward to driving next week, then it's back to work the week after-boo!

I'm still side walking too Kim.  Glad to hear of your progress. Boy, I sure admire you gals who are going back to work....hope you will be able to stay elevated as much as need be! Keep on trucking !!biggrin

Kim, amazing me that you could get trainers on in week 5. I just can't get anything on, well tried my new lace ups, but not comfy at all yet.

As Joan said- wow in shoes at 5 weeks- I've only just managed my walking boots this last week really and they were wideand roomy before- until then it was only crocs or flip flops the week before. Even though my feet are a lot slimmer all round they swell quite quickly now as I'm more mobile. Strangely enough the best I've found is my motorcycle boots but can't wear anything for very long-  barefoot is best lol razz I am awaiting delivery of a pair of Skechers GoBionic trainers as they apparently have a roomy toe box and nice flexible sole - will let you know how it goes.......

Wow from me too I'm same date as you beau. I can manage walking boots if I bandage my feet but only for pottering the allotment not for any proper walking.  As you said, nothing fits for long due to the swelling that comes with more mobility. I can put my toms on but not walk in them, likewise trainers (sneakers).  Does anyone else have trouble with shoes not just due to swelling but because anything rubs on the scars.  They've healed well but are still super sensitive to touch. 👣👣vJ

Joan can't manage my crocs yet, they too rub and I'm 8 weeks Friday!

Yes, hearing what you say, even a sock starts to bother me, needs to be a big sock so it not tight.  Just about everything does if it touches the scar area, must be sensitive.  What to do, I'm off a wee caravan holiday on Friday for a few days, taking wheelchair too in case I need it and hubby can wheel me abou the park.

Enjoy! We're off for a few days too and also taking the amazingly useful wheelchair so we can get out and about :-)

On our way, also going to see a litter of puppies, one of which will be ours in June 🐶 😄 so I gotta be better on the 👣👣by then :-)

Joan/ Beaudiddly-The consultant actually told me to try trainers at 2 weeks when he took the stitches out, but I put it off until 4 weeks when I could wear them comfortably.

Vj156- Yes it's more the scar rubbing than the swelling that's the problem but  it's a lot more difficult to walk barefoot,( that's when I'm really on the side of my foot.) I haven't been able to walk any distance yet ,because the way I'm walking/ limping is giving me the sciatic pain.

Rena, I will be able to elevate my leg at work, so I decided to go back earlier than planned.

Just had a few days away in our caravan which went well. The worst bit was seeing everyone on the campsite going off on long walks down to the beach whereas I could just manage the limp to the shower block!

I'm off to a caravan too at the weekend and can totally relate to the watching people going for a walk, I know I will have to watch my partner playing with the 4 year old grandchild and not be able to join in or walk to the beach, but there will be good bits too, planning to try swimming, of it not too busy.  You will get walking on your full foot soon.

Trip to consultant and physio today. Icing and elevating as I type. Consultant was pleased with progress and wants to see me again in 3 months.

OMW physio was sore today, been given a lot more exercises to do and have been told to push myself. More calf and toe joint exercises. Should be fun over the next few weeks.

      Afternoon all!

Well, the saga of ups and downs continues.  Ain't it fun? lol  The down is despite my thinking yesterday that there were no repercussions from the foot fall there were.  I did not rest entirely yesterday as originally planned to be sure no damage had been done and did go out for a couple of hours. This was NOT a wise move on my part.  Last night had more discomfort in the toes than I've had in a while despite elevating and icing.  This morning the foot is visibly more swollen and reddish in the areas of surgery....only myself to blame of course...sighevil

And on the UP side (always like bad news before good wink) I heard from my surgeon's office and he will see me this coming Monday on April 28th instead of on May 5th.  This will put me at just shy of 5 weeks and I am hoping maybe,  just maybe bones will have healed well enough to get rid of these darn pins!  Once they are out I'll be able to soak feet, be more comfortable in socks (sock pressing on pin at toe top is uncomfortable so need to keep pulling them up above toe area) and maybe be able to get under the sheets for a change!   So here is my resolution for the next 5 days until Monday. You are all witness to this.  I am not moving out of this house.  I am spending most of the time elevated.  All this is to try and undo any damage I may have done with the foot drop,  have all new swelling disappear, and give those old bones as much chance to solidify as possible.  Wish me luck folks !

Oh boy Joan....I so feel your pain.  Hope it's better now after the self-imposed down time.  And what a mood boost your adorable grandchild must be !!

Patricia...did we ever think we would exult in doing household chores? razz

Bob...wishing you a day of more rest than you really would like to impose on yourself....will you join me in my self-imposed shackling and see if your night time comfort improves?

Anita...do enjoy your guests today and the warm weather.

Carmen...not so sure I'm looking forward to PT and the pain !  Just kidding, that kind of progress pain I will be happy to have...biggrin

      Comfortable patient day all !!

      WEEK 10...... YES!!!!!!! WEEK 10

The recovery process a is mind blowing.ROLLER COASTER RIDE.

I have no pain no swelling,

Well only when I have been on it all day.

When walking outside the house where the bunion was fells sore and strangly as if its not connected.... Weird.

I was painting the attic all day yesterday, and feel I have lots of energy.

When I walk outside I have shoes that are 1 and half sizes to big for me  so that the foot as room to swell and not give pain. ( Before I had operation I was wearing these shoes as I had so many things in the shoe to stop me having pain)

I have been though all everyone as gone through and still are going through on this site.

I still get tearful and frustrated especially not being able to walk in the vast amounts of woodland around me.......but I am getting better.

My sicknote runs out next friday and will be back at work 5thMay on light duties so normality will help be get into the routine of what I had before op

To everyone Keep going, week 10 is a revelationcheesygrin

Oh be, that is so good to hear, thanks for your brilliant post,  it isn't half a roller coaster ride, don't know how I would be feeling if I never came across this forum and FB.  6 week mark for me, and it is pretty sore around the ex bunion, could be the bone healing.  Get frustrated as I thought it would much better now.

Be- Thank you!! You give us all hope especially after a hard day for me yesterday- week 8  AND my first day back at work. That was a sore foot day but today I'm fine- it certainly is a roller coaster ride!!

The first day is the worst! I was so nervous but everyone was lovely so it wasn't too bad. I took with me a bean bag footstool (£21.99 Dunelm Mill) and have been resting my feet on it. I'm also armed with foot creams (Body Shop peppermint reviver) and foot spray ( again Body Shop). I needed to take my shoes off when I got there so I just did it !! My feet got very hot so I took a change of socks and spent my lunch hour massaging my toes and then changing my socks. I managed 7 hours at work and my journey is about 45 minutes each way so my day was pretty long too. My lovely husband drove me in both yesterday and today and I got the bus home which I could manage. Next week I need to think about driving though as he won't keep getting up so early. Good luck- if you are full of energy now you'll be fine. I think I'm maybe back a week or so too early.

Thanks Eileen I will be taking your advice.Peppermint  Reviver, spare socks here I come.

Very scary thinking I wont have the security of the sofa, when I need to put my feet up.

Jenny I bought the socks on your recomendation, and they are fantastic £10 well spent, they have also helped with my toe sloping in again. At night they are really comfy.

Be-I don't know what kind of job you do but if you can get something (like my bean bag footstool) to rest your feet on you'll find the day more survivable. It's not as good as the sofa but does help!
