Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning 5 WEEKS 1 DAY

Yesterday was up, out and about most of the day. By nightime my foot was very swollen ( No Kidding ). At this moment 8:30 a.m. it isn't to bad. Still my big toe is very numb. My self diagnosis is the infection is gone.

As far as feeling like I'm on a rollarcoaster, that's exactly how my recovery has been. Today is a bright sunny day and I am going out to enjoy it as long as my foot can take it. My buddy and his wife brought over a bird feeded and bird food so I can continue my quest as a bird watcher. They brought me a book and binoculars to idenify them. Never would have thunk I'd be doing that.

Rena - Won't promise you I will take a time out. I will say 4 straight days of rain are on the way so I expect to gain some ground. I will keep doing my best tho. Thanks Rena.

Joan - Thanks for the positive thoughts on my mom. Overdoing it is our biggest issue it sounds like. I'm not the model patient although I seem to always bounce back well from many surgeries.

Anitagirl - Ring (HUH ) lol. Hope your lunch went well with your mother in law. Enjoy the day today.

Kim - 5 weeks and I'm only light heel weight bearing on crutches. Sounds like you are in a good place. Keep up the good work.

Beau - Let me know how those Sketchers trainers are. Saw them somewhere. Looks like they might be for me.

Hope today brings everyone some kind of peace. This is such a tough grind. I pray that we all can do our best in our recovery and accept every part of this process. Remember we are on to a better part of our life.

    Have a great day!!

Hi Bob, what type of op. did you have? Mine was a scarf osteotomy with 2 screws on just my left foot so I haven't had a plaster cast or pins/wires etc like some people on here. I suppose that's why I'm getting about a bit better (though I'm not going far)

Eileen - well done for completing long days at work.I'm certainly not looking forward to it and am only going back a little early at nearly 7 weeks ( on 6th May) because I work part time, and have 2 weeks holiday booked for mid June!

Does anyone manage with one crutch? I tried it outside and strangely found it easier to use it on the 'good leg' side.

Bob - I missed the postman today - with my delivery of my new Skechers GoBionic shoes so have to go collect them from the sorting office in the morning- will keep you updated!! I've been so envious of all you guys having just one foot operated on and having knee scooters and getting about but having read your posts today on Facebook about now having to weight bear I'm thinking maybe it has been a bessing in disguise. I've been weight bearing since the start even if only for a few minutes an hour initially and am now struggling to actually walk properly! I have asked if I can get some physio, I have to call them tomorrow. I have never walked properly due to very flat feet and severe bunions (surgeons description). It's taken me 48 hours to realise why I'm finding it so hard- my feet now have completely different bio mechanics and they haven't worked at carrying me around for the last 8 weeks - I literally need to learn how to walk and need to put the un used tendons/muscles into action for the first time in 49 years hahah. The most of the tightness and discomfort is on the top of my feet combined with the not being able to get my toes to the ground. I'm hoping some well fitting shoes will help me out smile

Beau- I know what you're going through with the pain on the top of the feet. I too am having to learn to walk differently and it's so sore sometimes.......but I keep telling myself that after all that time sitting still my feet are bound to hurt. There are others before us who have gone through this and its seems that for some this is normal- it's nice to put my feet up though!biggrin

Good afternoon!  Sorry I was MIA yesterday, busy, busy day!  Doing really well.  The swelling seems to have subsided a lot  but it still appears if I am on my foot for too long.  I swear by my toe socks!!  The kept that feeling of a band around my big toe at bay and the swelling is so much better when wearing them.  I see the doctor tomorrow for my 2 month checkup and am hoping that he will tell me to give this boot the boot...lol   I have had two boots in my lifetime and this one definitely is NOT my favorite.

Kim..I did one crutch for several weeks before going to full weight-bearing. I at first found it easier on my affected side but kept at it and ended up liking it better on the non-affected side.  I was in better control of how much pressure to put on the foot.  I think it is just something you have to work with.

Hope everyone is having a great day.  It is beautiful here, a little chilly but the sun is shining brightly, the flowers and trees are blooming!  Ahhhh...spring, it does the soul good.

I am including (I hope) a before and after picture of my feet. The right foot is the one that I had all the surgery on.

Whoops the posted backwards, the first one is after and the last one is before.

Ok what is this special sock that has helped please, can't bear to be missing out?! Specially if it has something to do with stopping the toes inclining?

eileen well done for going back to work, do hope you're ok and I'm in awe of you.

I went  to a Clarks outlet today and found some sandals that don't kill me to walk in, they're springers so quite soft. I've also found that although my feet are still swollen specially by the end of the day, I have gone down to a 5.5 instead of 6 as I guess I need less room  which is why I bought size 6 for years!! So that was fun :-)

i tried on ordinary shoes too but I'm afraid they just rubbed too much on my sore bits, but hey it's months before that's a problem and I have the summer to repair.

Am I alone finding this new layout confusing?

Hope everyone. Is continuing to mend well. 👣👣VJ

I find the layout horribly confusing!  You are not alone.  I buy the Injinji toe socks.  The are meant to wear with those funny looking toe shoes but I wear them with anything!  The really have helped with keeping my toes separated.  I am jealous that you buy size 5.5 or 6 shoes!  I must have big feet!!!!

your foot looks gorgeous! Those funny toe shoes are known as vibram five fingers and are excellent for running. Got 2 pairs myself.

venturing out to the hairdresser this morning for a long overdue hair tidy up session.

hope everyone has a lovely day.
