Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning ! 4 WEEKS 3 DAYS

Finally got the hang of this I think.  Need to be on page one choosing the "sort by latest" to be able to reply to Jenny and have the newest posts just below so I can refer to them.....sure took me a while to get it !neutral

I'm copying here something I posted on FB this morning so forgive me those of you who have read it already !

WARNING THIS MAY BE DISTURBING SO PROCEED WITH CAUTION ! Am so hoping that bones have healed enough to get the pins sticking out removed on Monday. Well, in my dream the hooked end of the pin sticking out of the top of the 2nd toe got caught on something and I watched it slowly get pulled out. I was happy and thought that meant it was ready to come out and all was well. Then to my horror suddenly the toe dropped off !!! I was shocked at first, then realized this meant the bones had not healed and I'd need another operation so burst into tears....then thought OMG I'better get this toe to emergency ASAP or it may not be able to be re-attached! Then thank god I woke up....Am laughing now as I write this but gotta say it shook me up for a few minutes. crycheesygrin

Anita.....my ankle has hurt from time to time but it's from heel/side walking.  I just last night dropped the elevation to only one very soft pillow as protection for the foot.  I use Mane 'n Tail Hoofmaker on my feet.....it's amazing.  Originally was used on horses' hooves!

Yikes Bob!....from 20 steps to 200 ?????  What do you cover the incision with when in the boot?

Good Saturday to you all  biggrin

Rena, thanks for the tip on page one sort by latest.  i just did that and it works better then scrolling forever and then i just give up as its too time consuming to reply to everyone. I do think of everyone.

Yes, we all have to mositure and baby our dear foot.  It will get better and be good to us again one day soon.  Sure wish I could bear weight on it, but maybe next week.  I am sure my ankle is really weak by now.

    WEEK 5 DAY 4

I just typed a post and it automatically deleted so I'm going to take a pass today. Going to be a hard day since I have mom duty today and she is twisted up. Need to get her out for air in which will require walking on foot and crutches.

Feeling like, not really sure how I feel except staying positive is the only way I know how to get thru hard days. This too shall pass.

    Have a nice day everyone.eek

    Morning Friends!!

Week 4 day 2 here. Everyday does get a little better. I am edgey and aggraveted today, I guess somedays are like that.  Its a warm sunny day here today. Netflix is no more so its back to real TV now.  Hubby bought some steaks for dinner, and since he is da Man, lol, I will eat what he makes. He loves to BBQ. From reading about others it seems that week 12 is the BEST. Oh so looking foward to that week but so many more to go yet.

Rea, I dropped one pillow last night (used to go with three) and it was much better. Ankle feels good this morning so far.

Jenny, is that you on the other side??

Bob, enjoy some time with your Mom. Getting outside and sunshine will be good for both of you.

To the rest of you, make today the best day ever. Praise someone today for all they do for you. This is a hard journey and without them it would be even harder.

    Smile

Afternoon all!  It sure is getting quiet here....but maybe it's because it's the weekend. WEEK 4 day 4....looks like I'm exactly a week behind Bob and 2 days ahead of Anita! Had the most active day around the house yesterday doing laundry and chores and managing 30 minutes at a time before needing to elevate.  It felt great to get back to some normalcy.  Foot was in general more swollen from the activity in the evening but nothing serious.  I think I have turned a corner.....

Bob and Anita and everyone else....have a wonderful Sunday !

Good afternoon, Bob 'm sorry you are having a tough time.  It will get better, I promise.  Find a nice sunny spot  with mom and prop that foot up!

    Anita, yes, that is me!

Rena, I was the same way at 4 weeks.  Couldn't do more than 20-30 minutes before I thought my foot was going to explode.  At 8 weeks it is much much better. Still elevating and icing about 3 times a day.

My unbunion was so sore yesterday.  I'm hoping today will be better.  I really think the therapist pushed me too hard on Friday. Several new exercises and walking to the fitness center and back.  My poor foot isn't used to that. I'm backing off of some of the exercises for a day or two and let it calm down.

Hope everyone has a nice day.  It is beautiful here today so I'm going to try to get outside in the sun for a bit!

    WEEK 5 DAY 5

Morning to those still on the ride. I am at the 5 and 5 mark. New day, new attitude. Yesterday did alot more walking. Lost count of steps. Starting to turn corner now and no where near out of the woods. Almost done antibiotics and will be seeing Dr on Friday. Still have signicant numbness and swelling at the end of day after walking.  (Boot and crutches)

Got mom out yesterday from the nursing hom and found a way to push her around in the wheelchair and get her to laugh. Laughing is worth all the effort it took.  ( these days everything seems like effort. ) Hope all my friends are well.

    Have a great day!!

    WEEK 4 DAY 5

Morning! Had a busier day at home yesterday than I had originally planned for and result was substantial pain last night. Had to go back to using knee walker. But the evening with friends and their children who brought over an oh so delicious Middle Eastern feast was worth it! Have appointment with surgeon this afternoon and hope that bones have healed well enough for the pins to be taken out.

Jenny....LOL..love the "unbunion" term ! Thanks for the encouragement....Looking forward to that lovely number 8!  Hope your foot is feeling better today after that rough pt session ☺.

Bob ....such good news about your mom! I know how that feels...hang on to those positive feelings. Wishing you another good day !

Shout out to all you wonderful people out there in various stages of coping with the challenge of an"unbunion" foot. (Thanks Jenny)

Week 4 Day 3 moving along. Weekend was full of up and downs emotinally.  Still seem to get teary about all this. Emotions are crazy taking over. I have been wiggling my toes as best I can. I find when I do it in the evenings I think the big toe wants to move too and then the pain starts. I still take 2 percocets to help me sleep. I keep wanting to go down to 1 and I try as long as I can and sometimes hubby has to get up to get me the other one. I dont seem to take anything durning the day. Used to take tynenol but dont need it anymore. This life is getting so boring. The first 2 weeks where FUN and not now.

I soak my foot everyday and then put on new cream stuff. I find after 5 mins hanging the foot down it get very blue and painful and cant wait to elevate it. I find I have to put bandaids on my scar area as it is very tender. I did hear from a reliable source (Dr. Oz) that it is good to put a bandaid on for the healing to occur better. Sure hope he is right.

Rena. sounds like a lovely day with your friends. You probably have all sorts of leftovers too.  Let us know how the Dr.s visit goes and if the pins are coming out. I cant imagine pins sticking out, but I guess we have to do what we have to do. Hang in there.

Bob Bob Bob, what can I say. Your doing great. Glad you had a nice visit with your Mom and I am sure it was what she and you needed. Laughter is good medicine for the both of you. Sounds like you need a pedometer?

To the rest of my "unbunion friends" have a great day. No one understands this like we all do. Just for today "Let your imagination go and think of something fun for the future"

    WEEK 8 DAY 5

BIG DAY!Drove myself to nearest town(about 15miles) and spent a couple of hours shopping-feet a bit sore on the soles but otherwise not too bad! Tried on some very pretty sandals but not buying yet as left foot still a bit swollen. There is a big light at the end of the tunnel-take heart all you bunion buddies-this will be you too before too long! Hope that the day is going well for you all.

Oh Eileen that makes me green with envy, being able to drive yourself somewhere again!! I'm 4 weeks 6 days today so hopefully only another couple of weeks before I can drive too - I think the loss of independence is almost as bad as the discomfort and I feel terribly disconnected from my normal life! But can't believe I'm almost 5 weeks post op , time does fly by once you get used to being so immobile

I have overdone it today - had a 6 and a half hour excursion to go buy some more clothing stock for my shop. 2 hrs drive there, an hour and a bit on my foot choosing clothes and negotiating price, lunch at the nearby botanical gardens which was a lovely break, so pretty but sadly my foot was by then too sore to do any walking around the gardens, just bought a few plants for my garden, and then 2 hrs drive back home. So a big thank you to my ever patient husband for driving me. My foot is up and on ice now, didn't think of packing some ice for the trip home which was a bit silly of me.

Seems people are defecting to the Facebook site... think I prefer this one for longer chats and daily progress reports, but I can't reply to it on my smart phone even though I can see posts, so I don't always post on this one if I haven't got the energy to balance my laptop on my lap or it's the middle of the night. I am still enjoying reading how you are all doing, so please keep it up!

Bob - sounds like the weaning off of your scooter is going well, and glad you had some good laughs with your Mum

Rena - how did it go with getting the pins out? Don't be too disappointed if it didn't happen, better to heal properly and the time does go by quickly

Anita - I know the feeling about the ups and downs emotionally as I'm sure does everyone else here, just something we have to accept and a big help knowing others are going through it too. I'm also starting to wiggle my big toe a bit, but am still scared of it being painful - it does seem to help with the sensitiveness from the scar though

Jenny - hope your foot is feeling better after a bit of rest - I'm also envious of you just being able to do physical therapy and exercises! I tried rotating my ankle yesterday but still too sore. Can't believe how small my calf muscle is

and to everyone else, hang in there - every day is a little bit better

Patricia, I know how over done feels,  glad you had a good day, so etime you just got to do it,.

Off to consultant tonight at 8pm, wondering what he will say and when other foot will get done.

My father in law taken to hospital yesterday and things don't look good for him, he's 85.  Phumomia.  Had to arrange with my daughter to come for me to get me to appointment.

now having to cancel our holiday to Spain on Thursday, bit gutted at that, being very weepy today, and keep telling myself it's only a holiday whereas hubby and his family have something far more serious to deal with.

Sending you and your hubby wishes for strength and calm Joan.  Pneumonia at 85 can be such a challenge....so stressful for all.  Will be thinking of you.

Actually you're lucky that if this had to happen around this time it did so before you left on your trip and not while you were away.....

I would love to visit Spain....it's on my bucket list.
