Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning!!!  Week 4 Day 5

Where did the time go? Somedays go faster then others.  Tomorrow I have an appointment with the Surgeon, not sure why.  I guess he is taking another Xray and perhaps send me for Physio? Have to leave the house by 6.45am. I guess the boot has to go back on.  Its so heavy and I havent worn it for 2 weeks now but I guess the protection is always good.

I have to tell you all something. Yesterday my Mother in law came for a visit. She was telling me about this show and how they put pins in toes. She then proceeded to show me where and how they go in with my toe next to the Big one.  I almost hit her. Then she says "It shouldnt be hurting you anymore you have been healing for a long while now" WHATEVER. I guess people just dont get it or dont want to. She is one of those who no matter what you have etc, she had it worse.  Guess I just have to watch her around my feet now. I dont know why some people thinks its alright to touch someone where they had surgery. Oh well, Mother in laws what can I say.

Have a g/f coming to visit today so that will be a nice break.  She always cooks me lunch and its always good.  Its going to be 20C here today. What a nice day. The trees have bud and the leaves are thinking of coming out.  Snow in the forcast for the weekend, yikes.

Joan, so happy that your going on your trip. The shoes you got are so cute and comfy looking too.

Bob, where are you this morning? Your usually one of the first to post. Missing you.

Rena, Eileen, Jenny and anyone I forgot have a great day today.

Have a good day and praise the ones looking after you, they do a great job.

Morning everyone, hope you're having a lovely sunny May Day. Is May Day a holiday in other parts of the world?

I have really overdone it the last 3 days - after the 6 hr excursion to buy more clothing stock for my shop on Monday, I had to get it into the shop as it's Africa Bike Week down here, big Harley Davidson festival and so lots more tourists in town. So I spent a couple of hrs on Tuesday sorting and pricing it, not easy to do lying down so was up more than I should have been... and yesterday took photographs of some of the clothes to put on the web, and boy was my foot painful last night!! This morning I woke up with a really painful glute muscle probably from bending up and down as I had to lie the clothes out on the floor to take pics, normally I climb up on a chair to get a better angle to take the photos but there was no chance of that happening this time! My foot is still really sore and I am feeling totally exhausted! So decided to spend today lying down - I have my laptop on a lap tray across me and just went to move it to the side so I could get up to go check on my parrot, and the laptop slid off and whacked me on my cheek bone!! Can't win!!

Hope you're all doing well xxx

    6 WEEKS and a DAY

Morning to everyone who are still here.

Yesterday I laid around all day while it poured outside. Really starting to get lazy and feeling like it's going to be very hard to get back in shape physically. Holding on by a thread, getting by with ab crunches, pushups and dumbell excersises. Foot is still swelling and painful. Icing and elevating continuiously. Appointment with the Dr. tomorrow hoping something gives.

Anita - Good luck at Dr's today.

Shout out to Joan who may be away, Rena, Carmen, Jenny, Eileen, Patricia, Be , Beau.

Hopa all are well. Let's '' WIN THE DAY ''smile

Good morning everyone!  Finally the rain stops and we have sunshine.  I was ready to start building an Ark!  Was already gathering the animals. Nothing as exotic as giraffes, elephants and zebras, was getting dogs, cats and leaving off the stink bugs!  Do you in the UK have stink bugs?  They are the nastiest of nasty.  True to their name.

Bob, you are at a turning point!  I started feeling so much better at around 7 weeks.  I pray that you do also.

Joan, glad your holiday is rebooked. Mobility assistance is a smart thing at the airport.

I did a little more than 6 hours in a tennis shoe (trainer) yesterday and it felt so good!  I think in the next couple of days I will be in it full time and done with the boot.  WooHoo!  Going to try to get a few things done around here today.  I have found that I have become quite fond of being lazy and need to get it back in gear! I received my rubber Fit Flops in the mail yesterday for wearing at the lake, pool and beach. They are so cool!  I wear Fit Flops most all the time, even in the winter with my toe socks. I know it looks funny but it is what my feet would tolerate the best.  My foot doctor recommended them years ago and I could just kiss him for it!

Hope everyone has a great day.  Hang in there!

Bob - Hang in there!  You were very active pre-surgery (I recall seeing a post or two by you before you had surgery), and I know this is difficult.  Just remember...muscle memory is a beautiful thing!  Once you are able to be more active again, you'll be able to bounce back to your former level in less time than if you hadn't worked out previously. :-)

I have somewhat of a dilemma. I have one screw on the outside of my foot and three on the inside area. The one on the outside is protruding and painful to walk on, so I am having it removed.  Today my surgeon said he could also remove the three on the inside area since I'll already be in the operating room.  Part of me says, "leave well enough alone, if it ain't broke don't fix it" and just have the one removed that is bothering me.  But part of me says, "take them all out, I don't need them."  I don't want to potentially create an additional problem by having him go in and remove the three that aren't bothering me, especially since that incision would be more substantial that the other. But what if the three screws do start to bother me down the road. Has anyone heard whether screws that aren't bothering you might eventually cause a problem over time? I know anything is possible, but I guess I'm just trying to determine the likelihood.  Thanks.

Late Morning to everyone here!!  Week 4 day 6. Back from Surgeons visit this morning. Got Xrays and well I was getting off the table and fell. That was FUN, NOT. I am ok but it shocked me more then anything. The tech had to get my husband to help me up off the floor. I just dont have the upper muscle strenghth. Seen the Surgeon and well I have a bunch of excercises to do, and I can start slowly putting weight on my foot, but only with the boot on. Very slow and increase a little everyday. I dont see him or start physio for another MONTH, man this is a flipping long process. Now I am exhausted from all this. I sure hope this next month goes by fast. I so miss the treadmill and walking. Foot is still swollen, especially on the bottom and I asked about that, apparently it will be like that for 1-3 months more, WHAT........oh well nothing I can do now. One day at a time. One step at a time, in the boot only.

Patricia, sounds like your going to have a busy time ahead. Would love to see your website if you would share. Take it easy. Africa Bike Week, that sounds interesteing I will look it up later. Remember to be nice to your foot today.

Bob, Hang in there bro.  Your almost at the end. Yes, this is hard all this non-movement stuff and it will all be a distant memory soon. I so hear you on the getting back into the excercise swing. I am scared to start walking but I know its the next step to getting back to the treadmill and Summer is coming.

Jenny, never heard of stink bugs, do they really stink.  Do they sting too. We have had nice weather the last two days and they are calling for another 20C today but then later tonight and for the weekend the snow will start coming down again. My tulips are about 4 inches high, not bluming yet. The buds are trying really hard as they want to start the leaves on the trees. How wonderful to be able to start walking and feeling great. That gives me hope that I will get there one day soon.  What are these flip flops that your talking about.  Can you give me the web site, or do I have it already.

Mel, you sure have a dilema. What do they have to do. Cut you open all the way and then restitch it up.  If that is the case I would just do the one that hurts. What is the healing time for that.  I just cant imagaine doing that again but then maybe cause I am not healed up yet.

To the rest of you, have a great day.

We are all another day closer to walking the walk. Keep your spirits high, there is someone else who just started this process and look where we are now.

Anita - so sorry to hear of your fall.  I know that had to be scary, for you as well as hubby.  I hope you didn't get hurt at all!

I should have mentioned I am 4 months post-op.  Getting around pretty well, wearing normal shoes "as tolerated" but walking with a limp due mainly to this one screw.  The surgeon doesn't really make a suggestion one way or the other, I'm guessing due to liability issues.  The intent was to just have the one removed, but he mentioned that he could take them all while I'm already in the OR.  Recovery is basically going to be just the incision healing, so not long at all. He'll open up prior incision, back the screw out, and close the incision. Very small area for the one screw. About a 4" area for the three screws. Right now I'm leaning toward just the one, but don't want to regret whichever decision I make. Ugh!

Mel, that's a really tough decision.  I didn't have permanent screws so cannot add anything to the discussion from experience, but wanted to mention that on Facebook there is a very active group called "I Survived a Bunionectomy!" that you may want to check out for more input.  Good luck !
